So, the company that makes RB used to make GH but they stopped making GH to make RB?

Red Octane + Harmonix = GH
Red Octane was bought by Activision just as GH 2 was finishing up.
        Harmonix + Red Octane + Activision = GH 2,GH 80's
Harmonix was then bought by MTV after GH 2 came out.
Activision for some reason didn't want to work with MTV. (Wich is why I said fired Harmonix but not quite I guess)
Red Octane + Activision/Neversoft = GH 3 and all the GH games after it.
        Harmonix/MTV + EA = Rock Band.

Funny story. Harmonix actually went to Sony first with GH since they had made 3 games for them already (FREQuency,Amplitude and some eye toy game) and Sony didn't want to shell out to produce the guitar controllers. Oops. Would've only had the one game and it would've been Sony exclusive. I'm sure someone got fired over that. Wich from a song lisencing standpoint may actually be a bit unfortunate.

Here's the thing I've noticed and it seems to be true..

If you're just starting out, you really don't see a difference. In fact, you'll likely prefer Guitar Hero.

Just look at who started this thread. Me. I was pumped more than anyone in May. I was ready to get it and forget all about Rock Band. In fact you can go back to numerous posts where I preferred stats and circles to little stats and rectangles. I don't know what I preferred Guitar Hero, but I did. Then around June, it changed.

However, when you start playing it as much as I do, you start to see little things. Crowd singalongs, interface, note charts, how the fretboard looks (and it's easy on the eyes), or simply how if you look behind the note charts, you can see how incredibly detailed the band is. Far superior to GH. It actually looks like they are playing the instrument. It isn't robotic looking.

It's clear that Rock Band goes that extra mile to make their game special. It's a music game made by REAL MUSICIANS. Out of all the employees at HMX, they make up over 40 actual bands.

Well, for many people, shelling out $200 for these games and their new equipment each time isn't really a feasible option; even $120 . Thus, the weighing of merits between the two games that has occurred recently.

The $120 or $200 is only a one time expense. And if you upgrade everytime, as I do, it ends up breaking even after dropping the instruments on craigslist.

It is really only a $60 expense (and usually $45-50 because of immediate sales) after the initial cost. With all the horrible games out there, from EA Sports to 6 hour FPS with horrible or no online communities, the music games are the best value for the dollar by a mile.

Ahhh, well just trust me then. I hadn't picked up GH3 in a long time and I tried playing MQ and couldn't believe how crappy the note charts were. It was extremely noticeable how notes were just added in.

                              Got it.

With the purple line parts they're like the RB solo parts so you don't NEED the new guitar, can do them on the old one. Never have to strum anything with those even if you missed the last note and since you're using regular buttons if you've got large hands it's not a problem.

There are singalongs, they're just not very loud.

You can change difficultly in the middle of a song (but have to restart it) or skip the song entirely if it's part of a set. I've only played quickplay so far (there's a pretty decent ammount of songs unlocked by default) so I'm not sure if that applies in tour mode.

Unlike RB it has seperate bass and guitar scores and you get money in quickplay.

You also earn money for more than just stars. Setting a new high score, never being in the red, streaks, percentages and other stuff.

The intro is so rediculously bad it's funny.

Also there's an option for setting a few seconds between pausing and unpausing so you can find your place again.

Did you buy the game goh? It looks to get the GH guitar I need to buy the game/guitar. It seems like the guitar won't be sold separately for sometime.
