They had a playable demo at Wal-Mart today, so I tried it, and wasn't too impressed. I'll wait till a friend get's it, and then check it out.

I'm shocked there's not more buzz about this. Maybe these forums don't represent the general public accurately, but RB is clearly favored over GH here.

And yet, Rock Band 2, which has the same ESRB rating, can get away without censoring Down With The Sickness.

            Re: Guitar Hero 4

Like I said not many forums do. Can just look at the back of the boxes and see why. General public has no clue what overcharting is,why GH 3 is a mess, that HMX were the ones that made GH what it was and went to RB,some don't even know what RB is,a lot just say it's a GH rip off.

Censorship is odd in this. They censor high in Stranglehold but leave smoker/toker in The Joker wich is good cause that's the best part. The other censor in Stranglehold is fine.

Reading on the GH forums, there are a ton of people having problems with the drums and guitar. Not registering hits, missing parts, broken parts, etc.

You'd think after Brian Bright pounded his chest about how great the instruments were going to be, that they wouldn't be so bad.

Ouch, that doesn't sound good at all.

There seems to be a huge problem with the drums though the more I read over at the forums. The guitar, haven't heard too many complaints.

I guess some of the full band kits are missing the cymbals and knobs for the cymbals. That has to suck.

Picked up my instruments at Wal-Mart at midnight, managed to get the last 360 full band kit they had (they only had a few).

First of all, the packaging... Everything was packed well except the batteries and caps for the cymbals were just lying loose in the box. I can see why some people's box didn't come with them because mine were scattered all over.

I decided to give the drums a try first. They certainly look better than Rock Band's drums, but I was worried about the kick pedal sliding around since it doesn't rest on a bar like the Rock Band pedal. I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't move around, and it works much better than RB's. In fact, my leg often hurt after a couple songs in RB cuz of the kick pedal, but I played at least 10 songs in GH with no problems. I did notice that my yellow cymbal seems to be giving me some problems though... sometimes it won't pick up hits and it's making getting through songs very difficult. Also, the red pad doesn't register harder hits unless I hit the pad so hard that I feel like I'm going to break the drumstick.

The guitar is absolutely awesome so far. I've always had problems with my GH3 guitar not registering the frets occasionally because the connection in the neck doesn't seem that great, but GH:WT's works great so far. I really love the strum bar, and the slider is pretty sweet. I have absolutely no complaints about the guitar, and I love its weightier feel.

I haven't tried out the mic yet, but I will soon just to make sure it actually works.

Overall I'm fairly impressed with the instruments, but i'm more than a little worried about my drum kit. The red pad and yellow cymbal seem like they may be faulty and I'm afraid they'll end up failing based on what I've been reading of other people having the problem. This is my first post on the GH forums, and I just wanted to post here not only to give my take on the instruments, but to show that there is a real problem with the drums for GH and hopefully things will be ironed out... I'm hoping that I'm lucky and my drums just need to be broken in, but don't be surprised if I'm back in a couple days saying that my game had to go back due to faulty drums.

I guess now since 2k doesn't make a football game, the 2k vs. EA debate had to move on:

Now, it's RB vs. GH. You can't like both, you can't just have fun with a game anymore....it sad.

Have I ever played Rock Band? No
Do I want to play Rock Band? sometime

I own a 360 and Wii and got GH3 for the Wii and I enjoy it. Is there overcharting, fake difficulty, etc.? Probably. Do I care? Nope.

That's what makes the game fun and challenging to me. That's why I play GH in the first place: TO HAVE FUN!

Remember Donkey Kong and the games of that generation? Then games were made to be fun, but also artificially difficult just to be a pain in your rear.

As someone that plays music, its frustrating when I am playing more notes then are in the actual song.

That's fine, nothing wrong with having choices but GHWT is not my choice. GH2 on 360 was my first experience with the genre, and naturally I bought GH3 as well. I had fun with both, but once I took the Rock Band plunge there was no turning back.

Harmonix was the first to the dance with the full band setup and they did it right. RB2 is nothing but an improvement.

I don't have room in my living room for another set of plastic instruments, so since I'm having a blast in RB2, I have no reason to go with GHWT. Besides, 15 minutes with it at a Best Buy kiosk was enough to convince me that I'm not missing anything. I felt nothing different with it as it felt just like playing GH3.

There sounds to be a lot of issues with the drums being all messed up from missing pieces to notes not registering at all. It seems like epic fail on the drums and I thought the RB drums were a bit on the glitchy side.

Now the new guitar, reports are across the board on this too. Some are saying the strum bar is clicky as hell and the slide bar is having some issues.

How could they mess this up.

Adding on that most people aren't going to pay for two rhythm games of the exact same concept, and when they are trying to make a choice telling them "HAVE FUN ON BOTH" doesnt help at all.

                              7.0 Presentation
The customization stuff is quite good, but there are a lot of nagging issues pretty much everywhere.

                              7.0 Graphics
The character detail is good, though the included character designs are somewhat fugly. But there are lots of texture spots that just look bad and blurry.

                              8.0 Sound
The soundtrack is awesome, of course, but the output of the music creator is pretty bad.

                              8.0 Gameplay
The note tracking is loose, which I dig, but the transcription is poor at times. The main mode isn't deep at all.

                              8.0 Lasting Appeal
The downloadable content support will make or break this score, but outlook is promising. The online stuff can be fun, but the created music will get old fast as the sound quality sucks.

                              7.9
                              Good OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

                              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since I was interested more in the guitar and reading things like this, makes me scratch my head.

While there's a lot you can do with it, only some of it is actually useful. The wah-wah stuff is fine, though I still greatly prefer to use the whammy bar on sustained notes, but that's a matter of opinion. Tapping it to play notes instead of strumming works pretty well, but it's not quite as accurate as the strummer, so you'll want to stick with the real thing for perfection. Unfortunately though, using the touchpad during the solo sections is really difficult. While it works, it's very easy to lose your hand position and play the wrong note. I'm sure that some folks will master it and be able to nail some sections with it after memorizing the hand placement, but it'll take some work. There are small crevices between each piece of the pad, but there isn't a solid placement marker like the tab on the yellow fret button to help keep your hand in place. Also, the colors on the pad are inset in the guitar, so you can't really see them when looking down on it.

What's possibly the most unfortunate part is that I had issues with the touchpad thinking I was touching it when I wasn't. It was worse on one of our guitars than the other, but I still had problems with sustained notes dropping off and that sort of thing on both models. It was somewhat rare, happening once every half-dozen songs or so, but it did happen. The worst instance was when I started a song and I just heard the "clink clink clink" sound like I was messing with the strummer and I immediately failed, even before any notes hit the screen. I wasn't even touching the guitar when this happened. Now, since this is worse on one of our guitars than another, it's possible that this particular one has some aggravated issues and that yours won't be as bad, but obviously this is something that needs to be pointed out.

Fortunately, the older guitars work perfectly fine with the game and you'll be able to do the same stuff in either case. Perhaps the only notable loss here is that you wouldn't be able to easily palm mute notes while recording a song (the new guitar's Select/Back button take the form of the guitar's bridge, and you can depress it to palm mute), but that's a small loss.

Wow. Looks like they dropped the ball here. Which is good, companies will be more apt to put there music in RB2 if GH:WT has a bunch of FAIL.
