    Re: Red Dead Redemption

On my Google Now feed, I've seen the same headline(s) from random, never-heard-of websites, every day for the last week and a half or so. It's pretty obviously click-bait.

But! RdR backwards compatibility has to be close (inevitable?). At least one would think. I've a feeling they're going to announce (E3 or elsewhere) the sequel as close as possible to announcing backwards compatibility on the One.

R* is an absolute hype machine/genius. There is no way the RdR sequel is coming out before its had a year or so to marinate. And what better way to sell more copies of a 6 year old game? They're going to absolutely kill it in RdR sales, digital and physical once it hits BC. And once they get everyone's attention with the sequel, the anticipation and nostalgia will be through the roof.

I could see R* releasing RDR backward compatible at E3, announcing the sequel, to come out this fall. Similar to how Fallout 4 came fast. I know some hype is good, but for a game like this you don't need years and years of hype.

Granted the "leaked" map may not be to scale, I thought the rumors were that the new map would be 4-5 times larger than RDR's? After playing a game like The Witcher 3, going back to RDR (which I still do quite often) seems like such a small map.

I can't imagine they'd make a similar sized map to RDR in the sequal.

Take with a grain of salt, supposedly the map has been independently verified by Tech Radar as the actual map via a Rockstar source. It'll also be set prior to the events of Redemption.

            Set prior?

            Yes, yes. Excellent.

Wow, set prior to RDR. Exactly what I was hoping for, this better be true!

I hope those rumors are true. It kinda has to be a prequel because RDR was set at the end of the wild west era.

Maybe we will see more Indians this time? It would be cool if they went the GTA V route with multiple main characters and one of them is an Indian.

Also, it's a sure bet that we will run into Marston's outlaw crew at some point. Im looking forward to that.

I couldn't agree more, we don't 'need' that length if time between announcement and release. But there was at least one year between announcement and release for RdR, GTA 4 and GTA 5.

I'd much rather an announcement and release turn around of a few months. That just doesn't seem like the way R* likes to run their Hype Train.

I read another rumor within the last 24 hours or so that cited a stunt man who claimed to have done some motion capture work for the new Red Dead, supposedly playing the role of a character who was part white, part Native. So there's that.

They should go even further back in time with completely new characters, ect..

I liked the earlier time period better. Towards the end doesn't feel like the 'wild west' enough to me.

My random thought on the character front is if developers really went out of their way to have a direct connection to the old map, then I feel there's likely a good chance for some character continuity. Some folks have mentioned Marston's old gang and I think that sounds kind of realistic considering the map development. Perhaps we'll see what led to him going rogue in the first place.

Or maybe it really will just be all new characters. But then they might as well have just created an entirely new region disassociated from the old in that case.

Either way, I just like to speculate.

                              Re: Red Dead Redemption

I'm so desperate for new RDR info that I'm throwing out some observations from the rumored map. Still not a sure thing obviously, but with a semi-reliable site reporting it very well could be, here we go:

                              1. The Strawberry location shares its name with the Crenshaw district in GTA V. Obviously I'm assuming an 1800 version of South Central didn't make the cut, haha, but it stuck out anyway. Maybe it's a placeholder.

                              2. The New Bordeaux region would appear to be a take on New Orleans, though I believe Mafia 3 is also using New Bordeaux as its name for New Orleans.

                              3. Pronghorn Ranch would seem to suggest new animals, namely, pronghorn (aka the fastest land mammal in the Western Hemisphere).

                              4. Sisika Penitentiary, an island prison, it'd seem.

                              5. Aberdeen Pig Farm... strangely no pigs in the original, right? Boars but no pigs?

                              6. The existence of caravan camps.

                              7. Numerous islands (seeming acknowledgment of some sort of water interaction, whether boating, swimming or otherwise).

                              8. The Grizzlies = The Rockies?

                              9. Painted Sky area perhaps going for a Horseshoe Bend type of look?

                              10. Lastly, here's the map supposedly to scale in comparison to the old map:
