    Re: Red Dead Redemption

Pretty sure I know what the response is going to be already, but is RDR worth playing through if I already know the plot and how it ends (spoiler bombed, unfortunately)?

    This is why I ask:

    http://kotaku.com/5913881/the-playst...-one-week-only

50% off the game + all of it's DLC. So, $20 as a Plus member. Probably would have a tough time finding it that cheap (again, including all the DLC).

Have you ever played RDR? Do you like open world games like GTA4? Are you a ps3 plus member?

Oh, definitely, played the hell out of every GTA and Noire. I've even played part of RDR, probably up through 5 or 6 missions and a lot of just wandering around the countryside, way back when I rented it. That said, the story is what keeps me interested in finishing games, and if the gameplay gets monotonous later on I won't have the endgame to push forward to (since I already know what happens).

I just want to know if the gameplay stays interesting enough for me to enjoy it all the way through.

The story is good all the way through, but since u know the ending its a little tricky. I guess it depends on how much you value 30$. After you leave the one place in the middle of the game it picks up alot.

I didn't like undead nightmare as much but it still has as solid story and is a good length. So if your on the fence it might be enough to push you to buying it. The reason I didn't like Undead Nightmare as much is bc you couldn't really shoot the zombie's you had to light them on fire.

If RDR is overated then there isnt a game worth playing this gen.

Started playing this again I forgot how much I enjoyed it! A couple small complaints: I wish I could rob more banks, stores and houses..And I wish there was more to find so many times you go into house after house and there is nothing..

I'm like you in how I value the story, but I'm playing through again and not only do I know the ending, but obviously what leads to it as well.

IMO, the atmosphere and random encounters are worth it. Plus, even though you know the ending, the journey and some of the interesting characters you meet on the way are awesome as well.

I would say that it probably would come down to whether or not you can get into the western setting. I know people who loved the GTAs and/or Noire and didn't care for RDR simply because they don't like westerns. If you can get into the setting, you'll love the game IMO.

Personally (as I said a few pages back when I started back up) there is still little more satisfying in a game than lassoing everything in sight. Shooting people off their horses ranks up there as well (especially when they get caught in the reins and get dragged by their horse).

So true, and I'm actually the exact opposite. I could never bring myself to finish GTA IV, and at that time didn't really care for open world type games. Red Dead completely changed all of that for me, and it was the western setting that completely sucked me in. Like you, I'm playing through again, and despite knowing absolutely everything that is happening, it still captures every bit of my attention.

As an aside, the first time I played through this game, I literally encountered maybe two bugs/glitches. However, this time through, I'm seeing weird **** everywhere, specifically with people/objects morphing through one another, or into the ground, etc. Doesn't ruin anything for me, but I'm seeing some seriously wacky stuff this time around, lol.

If you want it for the PS3, you can buy it and the Nightmare pack off the PSN store for $20.

I'm playing through for the 4th time, first in about a year (and first with the HUD off as I mentioned) and one thing I noticed that helps keep the game fresh is not only the order of the missions since you can vary them slightly but also the time of day/weather changes the feel of certain missions.

Since so much of RDR is out in the wilderness the atmosphere is more affected by the weather. Doing some missions in broad daylight in an earlier play-through feel way different doing them now in a thunderstorm in the middle of the night.

Well, watching Hatfields & McCoys is giving me the urge to put this back in the old PS3 (It's been a while since I've fired that thing up). I'm really into my Crystal Palace CM mode....but perhaps Saturday I'll start it up. I haven't played it in at least a year, so I don't remember much of it.

I like the idea of doing it without the "radar" too. That could make it interesting.

I'm not PS+ so I got it for $30. Still not a bad deal. Thanks for the heads up bro.

Does anyone know how the game runs when installed on the PS3 HD as opposed to playing off the disc? Is it any faster? Slower? No difference?
