The more I hear about this game, the more bloody excited I get. Check below for all the latest Intel:

          * Back pedal speed has been reduced to eliminate "hit & run" tactics.

          * Stagger and balance have been added to create more dangerous attacks.

*Simply holding up a shield is useless. You now need to time your blocks. You can also pull off a shield bash to stagger opponents. Can be attempted with two-handed weapons as well, but at a greater risk.

          * Flourish attacks appear for skillful kills, giving you a nice visual treat as you execute an enemy.

          * Some revealed combat Perks are critical strikes (swords), bleeding status (axes) and armor negation (maces).

          * Ranged combat makes arrows capable of higher damage, but also harder to find. Just one shot can potentially destroy an enemy, but you may only have one shot to make. Ranged warfare now seems to rely heavily on stealthy characters.

          * Stealth in Skyrim is a little deeper. Enemies don't suddenly move from passive to aggressive. There is now an interim "Alert" phase, so you'll have a chance to hide again and wait for them to forget about you.

          * Back attacks with daggers are highly dangerous, and a range of dagger Perks will lead to some truly badass assassins running around.

          * Magic in Skyrim will be inspired by BioShock's Plasmids, funnily enough.

          * Magic and melee will be kept distinctly separate. You can have a magic spell in one hand and a sword in the other, but you can't just crack off fireballs while hack n' slashing.

          * Although the Mysticism school of magic has been removed and consumed by the other schools, each spell in the game is more flexible. You don't just shoot projectiles this time -- you can hold down the fire button for a stream of magic, place them down as traps, or dual-wield them for extra damage.

          * Each spell has been individually crafted, so you won't just get aesthetically different spells that act in exactly the same way. There is a possibility you'll be able to meld spells together to create new effects, but Bethesda has not yet decided.

          * Fights between mages will be similar to melee combat, where timing and skill is more important than throwing out fireballs and seeing how wins.

          * Ultimately, the aim of the combat is to make each fight feel like a life-or-death situation rather than a brainless hack festival.
Sounds like it's going to be awesome!

I really hope this takes more from Morrowind than Oblivion. Morrowind is one of my top 5 games ever - and Oblivion was such a disappointment for me. I'll have to keep an eye on this one, and I really hope they can make another classic.

It won't be linked as far as a character continuation or anything like that. The only thing that it will continue is the Elder Scrolls canon. That's something you can read up on if you are really interested.

I've been waiting for a new Elder Scrolls for years. I didn't think they would continue it sicne they kept making Fallout games. And to no surprise, this sounds like it'll be great.

I didnt play Morrowind, but loved everything about oblivion except the repetitve main quest closing the gate stuff.

                      Did Morrowind avoid that part?

I haven't pre-ordered a game in like 2-3 years but I definitely will with this. I even know someone who doesn't like fallout or oblivion but is interested in Skyrim.

                          Info from OPM
                          • Dynamic shadows
                          • If a weapon and a shield or two weapons are equipped, you cannot cast any spell.
                          • It seems that smithing can only be done in Forges (you cannot repair your equipment everywhere like in Morrowind or Oblivion)
                          • Incredible level of detail such as : blood vessels on skin, modelling, animations, clothing
                          • Meteorological effects: clouds are gathering in real time around mountain peaks, snow affects textures.
                          • A major inspiration for snowy landscapes seems to be artists like Brom and Frazetta.
                          • "After Oblivion where every place looked alike, in Skyrim you'll find once again the eccentricity of Vvardenfell. Here every Nord Clan has its own colors, its own identity."
                          • For consoles: the "block" action is performed by pressing both trigger buttons at the same time. Each separately correspond to the action of what you equipped in one hand or the other.
                          • 80 spells among which some are entirely new
                          • Spells confirmed: Detect Life, Fury (force enemies to fight between them), Circle of Protection (hurl enemies outside a magic circle), Snow trap (triggers only when an enemy walks on it), Lightning, Fireballs.
                          • Concerning finishing moves we'll see stuffs like: Axe blade planted in the neck, dagger in the chest.
                          • Concerning skills: Acrobatics doesn't exist anymore to prevent the player boosting this only by jumping on stand.
                          • AI: NPCs have day and night activities like cooking and brushing the ground in front of their houses.
                          • Dialogues: most "important" NPC like simple villagers won't have any dialogue tree, instead they'll directly comment on rumors or on what they're doing; only important NPCs will actually exchange dialogue with you, you CAN cut short the dialogue simply by walking away.
                          • Every city and town is bound to some particular resources meaning if you burn their mill or mine, you affect their economy and they'll be forced to buy flour or mineral somewhere else and when you'll want to buy these resources here again it will be more expensive.
                          • Archery: when aiming at something, you can hold your breath (consuming stamina) and the action is slowed.
                          • Dark Brotherhood mentioned as might be in (the reason being that the devs had a lot of fun developing it in Oblivion)
                          • Dragons can be unpredictable in their behaviour, they will fly in the air, crawl on the land, they can crash when wounded.
                          • On the favorite menu: "Clicking on a key, the screen freezes and a list of weapons or 'favorite' spells is shown next to each hand".

                          • "a cause-consequence tree for each mission".
                          • Each mission will be a bit different from the same mission played by another player who has done other quests. Also can be different depending on which mission you did before.
                          • If you meet a Giant on the road he might not attack you unless you attack him.
                          • It seems he says that when most NPCs give you a quest, they'll give you precise directions or accompany you to the road showing you which direction to take to go on on you quest.
                          • The player should be excited when discovering a new place, or overhearing rumors spoken by NPCs between them.
                          • In Oblivion there was only 1 guy working on the dungeons, this time for Skyrim, 8 devs are working on them.
                          • 120 dungeons
                          • Speaking of jobs: woodcutting, weaponsmithing, sells stuff you made to the forge or to the mill
                          • He insists on the importance of activities they thought apparently useless before Skyrim, but they found that was surprisingly important for immersion after implementing them into Skyrim.
