    Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

So my friend just installed this game on his alienware m14x which has the following:
    i7 @ 3.4 ghz
    8gb ram
    geforce gt 555m (3gb)

The computer runs Battlefield 3 on high settings without a hiccup and when he plays Skyrim, even on the lowest settings, it gets around 15 FPS. He's tried reinstalling but to no avail.

At this point he and I are out of ideas. Anyone know what the deal is or experience anything similar?

      Update drivers maybe?

My PC doesn't even come close to those specs and I am running in between high and ultra at 40-50 FPS.

        Yeah I'm running:
        i7 @ 2.0 ghz
        12gb ram
        geforce gt 560m (3gb)

and it's smooth as butter on high/ultra settings. Check and see what drivers he's using.

Hmm, drivers are up to date. I have the same drivers as him and I can run the game just fine on medium-high settings with less ram, a worse cpu and a worse gpu.

          edit: got it working.

Eh? There are torches, first cave I went into I came out with 16, then I had to drop half of those for weight reasons.

I think I might turn up the difficulty, I've been fighting things I thought should give me way more trouble than they do.

I absolutely could not sit through Oblivion but decided to give this one a real, solid try since friends are playing it and from the things they talk about it makes me want to see what its all about.

Made a stealth rogue guy and I'm going to be making a ranged caster just so I have one of each in case I decide the one I'm playing isn't fun

Increasing the difficulty to master changes everything. Wow. I'm afraid to explore the wilderness without being fully prepared now. You really have to go into battle with a plan. It's extremely nerve racking. I like it

Would you guys recommend getting the guide? The Steam version exclusively has a ton of back-story to the game, and of course a **** load of information. I'm getting the game tomorrow when the shipment finally gets to my school.

Yeah I'd get it. However I wouldn't use it for quest info UNLESS you absolutely are at you wits end and want to move on. I use mine when I'm done the game and want to see what I missed. However I plan on doing at least 100 play throughs so I may never crack it open. lol

I'm at work and it's KILLING me!

Woke up early this morning before work to buy my first house in the game. My wife just looked at me like I was nuts as I was gleefully showing her my new home that is covered in cobwebs.

What's the best light armor in the game (for those with the guide or have managed to snag awesome light armor)?

I currently have elven bracers and all leather armor since I decided to ditch the heavy armor. Heavy armor just doesn't jive when you try and grab as many loot as possible when you're out exploring.

The town of Riverwood seems to get hit everytime I visit for a smithing session. Pretty annoying now. I have 5 souls with nothing to do with right now.
