Ah, the simple pleasure of walking through a cleared cave with a torch, searching for ore veins. So therapeutic

Well, the first TES game came out back in the mid 90s, so no the gameplay mechanics are very different. If you're talking about Oblivion, then yes, the core gameplay is pretty much the same.

Yeah you're over thinking it. There is a small learning curve but it's nothing too difficult. If you get the game and end up loving it, you'll probably roll more than one character anyway so use the first one you create as a trial character to get the basic of the game down. That way, you can come back later and make your "for real" character.
Thanks for the replys guys. I think I'll take the plunge. Now the real question is do I have the time. Seems like from what I have read once you start playing this everything else goes on the shelf.

Bribery only works for non violent crimes so it depends on what you're wanted for.

Did you escape the mine in that city? Only reason I'm not spoiler tagging this is because the quest is glitched. My friend had to restart his char he played 30 some hours because of it.

I've read it can also glitch if you kill the guards that are waiting for you in the Temple of Talos instead of going to jail willingly. I have that quest line half done hoping it will get patched.

Can anyone explain the Markarth glitch in detail? Like, what quest, what happens, etc.? I'm currently in the thieves guild, and if it's going to effect my game, I want to avoid it. Thanks!

I can't go into exact detail since I stopped following the quest but it's a quest called "The Forsworn Conspiracy" that pretty much automatically gets put into motion as soon as you enter Markarth.

I have a 1,000 bounty because I opted to kill the guards in the temple of talos (thinking it would be an isolated event). After killing the guards in the temple of talos I left the temple to find that every guard wanted me dead. I ran the hell out of there and have never returned. I thought joining the Thieves Guild and finding a way to clear my bounty might get me back into the city without completing the questline. If not, when I go into Markarth I will be automatically thrown into jail, and have to complete the "Forsworn Conspiracy".

Once you escape the jail, there will be guards and the captain outside waiting on you (and the other Forsworn). DO NOT fight, let the Forsworn & Guards fight each other, nobody will attack you. Glitch avoided.

That's what I did and everything was fine.

Edit: I would also like to add that this doesn't seem like a glitch to me, considering what was going on during the quest.

Agree, it seems like almost everyone just has a super itchy Sword finger and wants to kill anyone that looks at them wrong. I had no issues with the quest.

Nor did I. If you run with the Forsworn, then you're going to not be accepted into that city... Just the way it is.
