Dragons all have slightly different AI. Some won't land until heavily damaged, some will land and never take flight again if they have something to fight on the ground. All of them will stay grounded after taking a certain amount of damage, and it's different for each one. My guess is you damaged him enough for him to stay grounded.

As far as overall level, I just turned 49 today. Trying to finish the main storyline so I can start a second character and following some other stories I haven't really touched yet (bards and mage colleges, Companions, civil war).

Damn. Here I thought I found a surefire strategy to dragon success.

        Thanks for the answers, guys.

Good armor = Dragons aren't crap. My armor is so good I blatantly stand in the path of the dragon breathing fire at me and say thanks for tickling me because that sure didn't hurt me, then I whack them over the head with my mighty war hammer, leave them dazed and confused. Whack him couple more times with my mighty blows and he is dead.

Then the crowd gathers and say I never seen anything like that before. I say yes I know you haven't, because I'm a bad mama jamma.

And those people with the deer head hats are annoying. They talk a lot of crap but their puny weapons and magic can't damage me. One whack and their dead.

Finally bought my 1st house and just decorated it. Making it rain in White Run. Technically this is my second house because when the Smith guy in RiverWood got killed, I stole his house key and use his house as well. But White Run will be my main house.

Currently just walking around looking for and looting mines and caves. I must say it is a ton of water in Skyrim.

Anyone feel this game is way easier as a 'tank' type character than it is as a mage?

My first character (heavy armour 2H Nord) was only a level 35 and he felt pretty much unstoppable whereas I'm using a mage now (destruction and conjuration focus) and even though I'm in the mid 40's he doesn't feel anywhere near as powerful as the Nord did.

That is pretty cool. I must be doing it wrong.

In a battle I usually cast conjure dremora lords which look pretty badass but I don't know how much damage they do:

                  Spoiler

Then I swap to the incinerate spell and shoot fire at them until they die. It works ok but nowhere near as devastating as what my Nord was when he was cleaving skulls left right and centre.

This might be the nerdiest line I have ever written but: do you guys have any tips for making a mage more badass.

I figured out why everybody loves smithing iron daggers so much. I made 43 iron daggers, 6 leather armors, and a couple random fine-smithings and I was able to level up 2 times. I also raised enough money to buy that house in Whiterun, which seemed pretty fast to me - at least compared to my first run through.

Halted Stream Camp had a ton of iron ore in the mine. I think tonight I'm going to start my trek to Riften. Get the first two Thieves Guild quests out of the way and then go for the 7,000 Steps to the Greybeards.

                      Level 82......

Also guys, I got a easy way to do smithing and make money at the same time. Heres what you do:

                      1. Buy Iron Ignots and Leather from the smith in whiterun and make you daggers. (Or steal them, find them, etc)
                      2. Go to Dragons reach and buy all of the worse soul gems with souls in them. (Or buy empty ones and kill wolves to trap in them with the soul trap spell or soul trap weapon, its cheaper)
                      3. Go to the enchanting area in Dragons Reach and enchant the iron daggers with whatever enchantment you have that gives you the most gold. (To do this select the enchantment and then look at the item value)
                      4. Sell to the merchants there. Belethor, Skyforge Smith and the Wife and Husband at Warmaidens all buy them. If need be wait 48 hours so merchant gets money back. If you find the right enchantment you will make money back and level your enchanting skill as well.

Exactly and that got really boring. Bumping the difficulty up to master doesn't help either, you still 3 shot Ancient dragons and 1 shot other mobs. That's why I had to install a mod that makes the dragons a lot harder. Now every time I see a dragon I have reason to be nervous. Only thing is, I have to disable it whenever I want to play a new character because they aren't strong enough to kill even the first dragon outside Whiterun. He kills everyone who can be killed.

Regular mobs are still pathetic but that'll be fixed when the CK is out.

I haven't played a tank yet, but I did run around a few early levels with a pure mage type and it's definitely a lot harder play style than the arrow and melee builds I have played. The starting spells are weak, cost a lot of mana, and I'm broke. Looking forward to playing more with this character.

It's killing me reading about everybodies characters and adventures. During the week I don't have much time to put into the game. Got it Tuesday and have only been able to put in about an hour so far. Needless to say I haven't accomplished much, I did get myself a pick axe because of GMSS's posts. Hopefully this weekend I can put some hours into it.
