I've always felt the difficulty curve on the Mass Effect games was out-of-whack...in every game - but especially the first one - combat is damn-near impossible for the first 1/3rd or so of the game, then you level up and get better weapons/skills, and then it gets to a decent middle-ground, and then by the endgame you are superman/woman and just mow everything down and it's way too easy. There should be more of a gradual curve and build-up, in my opinion. I beat all the games on Hard and Insanity, for reference.

Also, your teammates suck so bad it makes the combat frustrating more often than not...it really limits the usefulness of the character roles when you know you can't count on them to do anything other than absorb some enemy fire (and they don't even do that all that well...).

Great point ... I'm at that phase where I'm questioning if I want to forge ahead. And the completeness of my story (starting with ME and building off every decision) is driving me more than the quest for a platinum.

I burned through ME1 the first time, not really doing side quests and what not. Then I realized I messed up some events I wanted to do a certain way (like saving Kirrahe and finishing out the Conrad Verner stuff) and went back and got a certain set of armor?

My God. No one could touch me. Hardly even felt fair.

Just crank down the difficulty...it's really not worth it IMO to torture yourself on the higher difficulties. It's really no more rewarding. Especially for the first part of the game...you just get killed over-and-over until you can get some decent powers, armor, and real weaponry...and then you just plow through everybody. The difficulty curve is totally wack, and if I recall, the checkpoint system in the first game is totally broken (making it even harder in the early game).

If you have a high tolerance for failure, just grind it out and know that it'll get better. Otherwise, maybe do an initial play-through on a lower level and then you know what to expect, if you go through a second time you can crank it up.

I want the platinum ... and the pride of playing ME3 for the first time as a 5 star general.

Guess I'm all in now ...

Good luck - it will totally get much easier/less frustrating (other than driving that stupid tank looking for metals....that never gets better). By the endgame you'll be exploding everything in site. But if you get frustrated in the first portion of each of the games in the trilogy, just know that it's not you...it's them. (words to live by in general)

More Multiplayer/Single Player DLC on the way. Last one for Single Player.

I'm really interested in the supposed "Co-Op" mode which ties singleplayer to MP.

I'm starting to build momentum. ME2 Insanity, things are finally starting to swing in my favor. I'm in the final battle at Horizon, struggling mightily with the Scion's, but had mowed down guys on the previous 4-5 hours of play.

It's crazy. One second you're struggling to beat a handful of mechs, the next you're jumping world to world and making serious progress. I'm sure I'll get stuck here and there, but I hope the game is easier from here on out.

Horizon from ME2....(shudder....). IMO, the most painful part of the entire game. Maybe the most painful in the entire 3-game series. I will never go back and play that again - for me, it'd be like going back to 'Nam or something.

for me, Horizon wasn't as tough as a mission later on in ME2.

Forgot about that one....also controller-breakingly-maddening section. But I died on Horizon about 8-million times on Insanity (w/ Vanguard, which was REALLY hard to play ME2 on, IMO, and for that last Horizon section really a bad choice), whereas I died on the part you mentioned only, maybe, 2-million times. Both really tough on insanity, though.

So one more single player DLC, huh? And the only DLC party member was Javik and "technically" the two party members from Omega?

A lil disappointing. Interested to see what this co-op integration deal they're coming out with will be.
