Re: The Witcher 3
Tha only counter I'll make to Rudy's post is that most of the better sign perks and combat skills come well after level 8. The rest of it definitely just looks like personal preference and I think you're right, RPGs may just not be for you.
This game doesn't really take off until the teen levels.
Always liked The Witcher's combat, though. It brings just enough strategy for me to enjoy it, especially when it becomes beneficial to do research and prepare accordingly with specific potions later in the game.
I always hate hearing people dislike the game, but those reasons listed are definitely understandable. How much of Dragon Age did you play ? I found that game to be way may more tedious with too many "go here and collect this many of x" type quests.Last edited by AUChase; 01-09-2016, 12:30 PM.Comment

I found exploring more interesting in DAI although the story was definitely weaker than Witcher. I think I miss the party system more than I realized. Having 4 people to fight with and unique skills was underrated in DAI.Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
I did try it and it was better, but it and the combat, wasn't the effortless control/flow that I need for a game that I want to put 100, 200 plus hours into.
This was how I felt about all the old Metal Gear and Resident Evil games, the controls were just to much of a chore for me.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
Just reached level 13 and I still haven't run across a set of armor that DOESN'T have geralt looking like a court jester!!! Besides the armor you start the game with and another set (can't remember the name of the pieces) that I currently have, every set looks weird. Can anyone name any good armor sets that evoke a real mercenary monster killer vibe?!!!!Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
The Griffin set is the earliest Witcher School gear you can get, but that's level 17 IIRC.
The Feline armor and Wolf armor sets were the best looking ones to me.

Re: The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3 is probably not for me. RPGs in general probably aren’t my thing either. After playing my first true RPG in Dragon Age Inquisition last summer and largely enjoying it but not blown away (7.5-8/10 imo) I was looking forward to the Witcher 3. I had read how much better the Witcher 3 was than DAI in many areas such as story and combat so I was excited to play it. After 15 hours and almost being Level 8 I’m going to quit. While I like the story and all the cut scenes I’m just not willing to put in 100 hours to play this game and overcome the weak combat and tedious RPG things involved.
The combat just isn’t good imo. When I hear people say you don’t play RPGs for the combat I ask why not? There is no reason not to have good combat, especially if I’m going to be playing this a long time. Witcher 3 doesn’t have a good counter system. When you are fighting more than one person/monster it’s useless. You basically just end up hitting things with your sword and dodging constantly while using a magic sign whenever you can and you wait for it to recharge. So every battle simply felt like magic sign, strike & dodge, strike & dodge, strike & dodge, rinse and repeat. And as your character levels up it appears that this doesn’t change. I don’t see any new cool moves unlocking. Games like Mordor, DAI and Diablo all let you do cool new stuff as you played. DAI let you map 10 different moves to the controller and each class had new stuff too. This game is just whack with your sword and dodge. It’s just not very good.
The RPG stuff is overly tedious. I understand in RPGs you have to loot everything, craft stuff, deal with inventory caps and grind to level up. But this game makes it worse since the Loot/interact button is annoying. I walk up to a bush and as soon as the loot X icon appears by the time I hit it I’m often standing right on top of the bush and the loot icon disappears. Why?! I’m right on top of the thing I’m trying to pick up! Now I have to walk back away from this thing and come back so the icon re-appears. It’s annoying and it happens a lot. Having to worry about repairing my swords and armour is another tedious task I would have greatly preferred an option to turn off. Gritty and realistic? True. Sucking more fun out of the game? Also true. And not being able to fast travel without being at a sign post doesn’t help either.
RPGs are probably not the right genre for me. I was hoping the Witcher 3 would be a great game for me but it’s just too tedious with weak combat and I don’t think I’ll continue.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: The Witcher 3
Is there any sort of a bonus or benefit to using a full set of the Witcher gear? For example do you get any benefit from equipping all the pieces of the Griffin Set?
I'm starting up with a signs build and only around level 6 but thinking ahead to what armor I want to use. The Griffin set makes the most sense stats wise but not really a big fan of the way the chest piece looks, so wondering if it'd be a problem if I used one of the chest pieces from another set.Comment

I did recently grab all of the Feline gear as well. I'm looking forward to grabbing all of the Wolf gear when I can, as that seems similar to the Griffin set with awesome aesthetics.Comment

#1 benefit of sticking with mostly Witcher gear: you don't look like a puffy clown.Comment

Some information on the upcoming expansion.
"Blood and Wine, a 20-hour tale that will introduce the all-new in-game region of Toussaint, will take Geralt to a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret."Comment
