Witcher side quests are far better than FO4. And I love FO4.

Re: The Witcher 3
FWIW, I respect everyone's right to have a different opinion, but I stood watch with a guy last night and the first thing he said was, "Man.. I've done nothing today except play The Witcher".
In response I said "Oh, cool.. ****ing awesome game".
He looks at me and says ,"I hate the game. It's ****ing terrible. There's too much dialogue. I can't even walk up to a random person on the street without them having a lot to say and it's dumb and annoying".
I looked back at him and said, "We should just stop this conversation now".
The **** ? I didn't even know what to say to him. It was almost one of those situations where I wanted to tell someone their opinion was wrong and it doesn't even matter.Last edited by AUChase; 12-26-2015, 09:38 PM.Comment

Whoever that guy was, he contradicts himself. He hates the game, thinks it's terrible yet he did nothing except play it all day??? Seriously, with some people, you just want to shake your head and say WTF???Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
Finally got to play a few hours today.. really enjoying it. I have a quick question though.. how do I level up faster? Do I just explore around more? I mean I've been doing some side quests and all, but even the current story mission I'm on says it's recommended for me to be at say Level 7, which is still a couple levels above my current level.Comment

Clear out white grove, find all of the places of power and by that time you will be fine.
Its just a recommendation which level you should be. Don't be afraid to try some quests even if you're not a high enough level.
One last thing, try not to fast travel too much. You will level up faster, find more things, and generally be more immersed in the experience traveling from area to area getting distracted along the way.Last edited by Darkleaf; 12-28-2015, 07:09 AM.Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
Is anyone aware if there will be any DLC that actually opens up more of the world map? White Orchard, Velen, and Skellige combined don't even make up a quarter of the overworld map, curious if there are any other areas we will be allowed to explore in the future.
Also, why would there be an area for Novigrad depicted on the overworld map when it only opens up into what essentially is Velen? That struck me as odd. Unless I'm missing something here? I zoomed out to overworld and opened the map for Velen, then I did the same and opened the map for Novigrad and it was the same map, with the Novigrad map opening on the city instead of the surrounding landscape. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little pissed off thinking there was another whole area to explore.Comment

Novigrad is essentially just a big city with a LOT of quests, including multiple main quests. To me, it almost struck me as a "break" from the bleak nature of Velen, where a lot of missions are more diplomatic than action packed. However, Skellige is another massive area akin to Skyrim as far as visuals and the style goes.
Trust me, there is no reason to be that upset about the game if you haven't actually played it. Give yourself time to play, and you'll realize what a masterpiece it is. If you're not willing to do that before passing judgement, than I don't know what to tell you.Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
What I'm really enjoying about this game is nothing feels like a grind. In most RPG's I've played, I've had to do some boring quests and fight the same monsters over and over to move on with the main story. But with this game, I just get lost in the game. I complete a side-quest and find some hidden treasure.. which leads me to doing another quest and another and another.
And for some reason, I was in Vizima looking at the world map thinking to myself how the map's kinda small - well I was just being dumb and didn't realize Vizima is just a small region of a much much larger land mass. I just kept zooming out and simply facepalmed for thinking that.Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3 is probably not for me. RPGs in general probably aren’t my thing either. After playing my first true RPG in Dragon Age Inquisition last summer and largely enjoying it but not blown away (7.5-8/10 imo) I was looking forward to the Witcher 3. I had read how much better the Witcher 3 was than DAI in many areas such as story and combat so I was excited to play it. After 15 hours and almost being Level 8 I’m going to quit. While I like the story and all the cut scenes I’m just not willing to put in 100 hours to play this game and overcome the weak combat and tedious RPG things involved.
The combat just isn’t good imo. When I hear people say you don’t play RPGs for the combat I ask why not? There is no reason not to have good combat, especially if I’m going to be playing this a long time. Witcher 3 doesn’t have a good counter system. When you are fighting more than one person/monster it’s useless. You basically just end up hitting things with your sword and dodging constantly while using a magic sign whenever you can and you wait for it to recharge. So every battle simply felt like magic sign, strike & dodge, strike & dodge, strike & dodge, rinse and repeat. And as your character levels up it appears that this doesn’t change. I don’t see any new cool moves unlocking. Games like Mordor, DAI and Diablo all let you do cool new stuff as you played. DAI let you map 10 different moves to the controller and each class had new stuff too. This game is just whack with your sword and dodge. It’s just not very good.
The RPG stuff is overly tedious. I understand in RPGs you have to loot everything, craft stuff, deal with inventory caps and grind to level up. But this game makes it worse since the Loot/interact button is annoying. I walk up to a bush and as soon as the loot X icon appears by the time I hit it I’m often standing right on top of the bush and the loot icon disappears. Why?! I’m right on top of the thing I’m trying to pick up! Now I have to walk back away from this thing and come back so the icon re-appears. It’s annoying and it happens a lot. Having to worry about repairing my swords and armour is another tedious task I would have greatly preferred an option to turn off. Gritty and realistic? True. Sucking more fun out of the game? Also true. And not being able to fast travel without being at a sign post doesn’t help either.
RPGs are probably not the right genre for me. I was hoping the Witcher 3 would be a great game for me but it’s just too tedious with weak combat and I don’t think I’ll continue.Comment

I'm a die hard RPG fan, but the things that Rudy talks about are what made me stop playing this game after a scant 40 hours. Combat and movement just didn't work for me, I still think that it's the Game of the Year despite my issues with it.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment
