From my understanding PS4 games will be backwards compatible. My friend the amount of stuff they have added to this game is just nuts. I dont know when you stopped playing but $25? If I could afford it I would pick it up for you, LOL I owe you one. This and The Show are what is getting my thru all of this shutdown stuff.

Re: No Man's Sky
New update sounds great. What they've done with this game is amazing compared to what was there at launch.
The only thing I wish was different was that the materials throughout the universe were more of a mystery than they are. Instead of it being so simple by breaking it down into a categories like Carbon and what have you, I wish that there was a more in depth process of extracting what you needed from the rocks and minerals on planets. I also wish that there were rocks that had unknown compositions that could completely change the science in the universe. I also wish that animals and plants were more in depth and could be studied, but I know these wishes are asking for a lot.
I just think it would be incredibly neat to discover a mineral on a planet and it has some properties that were generated that make it valuable and the whole universe gets flipped upside down by the discovery, but the AI and whatnot in the game isn't built to handle that kind of stuff.
Maybe one day we will have a game like this be so complex I can build a new engine type that uses a rare mineral most don't know about and it is so efficient I have to fill up once every thousand hours of flight.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: No Man's Sky
I tried out the new update for a while last night, and I wanted to mention that one thing I mentioned in that "getting started" post I made above has changed. Oxygen Capsules, which I was suggesting people buy as soon as they can get to a space station, no longer charge life support. You can still buy them, but from what I can tell they don't serve a purpose anymore - they're not even listed in the game's item/crafting logs.
So, in the beginning you're not really going to have an option other than collecting Di-Hydrogen and crafting Life Support Gels like they're going out of style. It's not the quickest process in the world, especially if you have to walk. And you really don't want to keep setting your ship down on the ground just to do this, because starship launch fuel also requires Di-Hydrogen, defeating the purpose. So for that reason I'd now suggest getting far enough in the storyline to reach the Space Anomaly (It's not far, like the first two warp jumps IIRC), and use some salvage data there to acquire some of the Exocraft technology (I'm using the Roamer, basically an 4 wheel ATV). Paraffinium is required to build the Roamer's Geobay and that's really the only somewhat hard-to-find material that's necessary. Anyway, throw that Geobay down near where you build your first base (this is also explained very early), and you'll be able to roll around to each crystal deposit nearby and mine the Di-Hydrogen very quickly. It seems like they increased holding capacity for Life Support Gels up to 100 per "box" so that helps.
As for the update itself, I'm enjoying it so far. Got to see one of the new meteor showers on a planet I visited, so that was pretty cool. Can definitely tell the graphics quality got bumped up from distance while I'm low-flying around planets.Last edited by bcruise; 09-24-2020, 10:03 PM.Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
The Planet variety now is just insane. I did do a re start and I am having so much fun. They fixed it so it is much harder to crash an economy in the early game.
I was on this mountainous planet with these insane deep valleys that where barely wide enough to fly thru and land in. It was a swamp planet as well so it was all foggy and stuff down in the valley. I could barely see the nose of my ship. It was resource rich to, so it was a real challenge to gather and be safe. Had more fun on that one planet than I have others in a good while. It was great because now I actually do feel the environment can be a challenge as well.In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Re: No Man's Sky
Oh man!!!!
SpoilerI don't know if this was in before. But I just found a Kovax "Stronghold" for lack of a better term. It has several levels, all of the stores of a traditional Space Station. Plus two Stores I have never seen before. Plus a GIANT tower housing a massive AI? There are also several landing pads.
This world has never felt more alive and full of stuff to do. I am just amazed at how far this game has come. It truly is a must play now and a truly great game.Last edited by Bullit; 09-26-2020, 06:14 PM.In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Re: No Man's Sky
Found a pretty big bug.
I had upgraded my ship from the starter to a B class fighter.
Then I stumbled across an S class fighter that was just awesome so I went broke and got it using the exchange function to buy it.
Now I went out to hunt A class ships to salvage for upgrades. I buy a new ship, not exchange just buy it outright. I had done this several times with the B class and never had a problem. But now when I salvage a ship it reverts back to my B class fighter that I no longer own and I loose access to my S class newer fighter.
Just want to put this out there so you guys are aware and save the game appropriately to prevent loosing ships you have worked so hard for. I have now protected my S class with a manual save just to be safe to see if I can figure out what is going on.
Edit/update
Ok this actually works to the players benefit. I went back and check my recording of gameplay. I had definitely sold my older ship when I bought the S class. For some reason the game added it back into my inventory which is why it kept popping up as my ship. I never actually lost my S class. So I actually got to salvage my older ship instead of just the trade credit and it has not popped up in my inventory again. Will re post if anything changes.Last edited by Bullit; 09-29-2020, 08:47 PM.In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

That sounds somewhat similar to a couple of situations I had with things I owned or acquired disappearing, and both had to do with "secondary" equipment being lost.
The first time, way back in an earlier version of NMS I lost a ship that I had repaired from the ground and flown to a freighter (back when freighters were new). At the time I had no idea what happened, and just assumed that ship was lost due to a bug. It actually turned me off playing the game for quite a while after that.
Now just recently, I had a similar thing happen but this time I understand exactly what caused it. I had purchased a secondary multi-tool to use as a weapon (the primary, original one I had was better for mining). Anyway, after I finished adding everything I wanted to to the new one - upgrades and such, including some black market stuff I lucked into - I did a little bit of mining with the first tool to work on my base. When I was done and switched back to the new multi-tool, all my upgrades were gone - it was as though I had just purchased it. This reminded me of the situation I mentioned above, and I started experimenting with ways to keep it from happening.
What I found was that the process of switching active multi-tools (and perhaps ships, since it works in a similar way), without saving wipes any upgrades or changes made to that tool since the previous save. So, as long as I save before switching my equipment, everything that I upgrade stays in place no matter how many times I switch back and forth.
I still don't know exactly why I lost that ship, and I don't have enough units to play around with things that expensive to figure it out. But I'm pretty sure of how it worked with the multi-tool thing, and can avoid it in the future.Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
I have so gotten into the habit of jumping in and out of my ship whenever I change or do anything just because of bugs like this. I even carry a portable save beacon around wherever I go just for backup. LOLIn Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Re: No Man's Sky
Pretty excited about both next-gen NMS being announced (and as a free upgrade for existing owners) AND free updates on PC to bring that platform up to the same graphical level.
My PC is something akin to a PS4 in terms of specs, so I'd imagine the better performance is going to come from the console version as I'm not planning on upgrading anytime soon.
