For those out there who haven't heard of Westveleteren - it's the beer that's consistently ranked #1 in the world. Unfortunately, the Trappist monks who brew it only brew enough to keep their monastery running. They do not import it, nor do they contract with a distributor. The only way to get it, I think, is by purchasing it directly at the monastery in Belgium, from the pub across the street from the monastery, or on the "grey market." The bottle apparently doesn't even have a label - the only marks are on its cap!
Yeah, I don't know if I can last 4 years, but it is suggested to let it age for around that time. I paid $28 for one little, unmarked bottle. The wine store I go to (from the vine, listed on beer advocate ) I always talk to the lady for a while everytime I go in, and I just casually asked her if she ever saw or heard of where to get a westy. She said she had just bought a case online, and was selling them for $28 a bottle. Thats not some large bottle, that is 12 oz. Didn't think I would get the chance to buy another since this was the first time I had ever seen them. I snatched up her last quad. Wish that I had two to compare to the aged one in a few years.

ATM I am drinking a stone Pale Ale. Not my favorite pale ale, but it was a nice beer for during and after dinner. My favorite APA is probably Three Floyds Alpha King Pale Ale. Think I will enjoy a Rochefort 10 later as I relax and watch the game. Yeah, but there's one problem: None of your choices is beer. They're sparkling mineral water.

I just tried Stone APA for the first time last week. Managed to try it on tap, too. Not bad - I'd have it again.

Sweet, sweet nectar. I try not to think about Greak Lakes, they're no longer in IL as a few months ago. My lust for Ed Fitzgerald has not gone away and I can't find a porter that's even close in terms of goodness (to my palate anyway). A beer road trip is in order.

Yeah, I really want to make a trip to cleveland and go to that brew tour. I love every one of of their beers I have tasted to date!

So true...but after about 10 of them, I can catch a buzz and not be so overcarbed, that I have a hangover the next day...

I'm old, and this beats not being able to drink at all...

Never had it. I only had the Amber when I was up in Alaska last summer and last weekend. I'll have to look out for it next winter.

I just heard that a local beer store here is starting to carry beers from the Bear Republic microbrew. Anyone ever had one of these? I'm going to go pick some up soon.
