Yeah Tennis is great. I love basketball as well as they both give you an intense cardio workout but are 50 million times more fun than just running on a treadmill or something like that.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
Well I lost 1 pound this week. I've now been basically stuck @ 253-256 for the last two months. Lose 1 pound, gain 1 pound, lose 1 pound, gain 1 pound, LOL. I guess i'm really going to have to punk up and get it done and get back to losing.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
I have good news and bad news. The bad news is I'm still 331. The good news is that we took a week break from the diet. We ate pizza 3X last week, drank beers and had some hamburgers over the weekend, and still didn't gain. Good sign that I can go off track a bit and still maintain my weight. Back on the diet strict until Saturday (July 4th party, UFC 116 = BAD news).Comment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
Linuxx - Join Anytime Fitness and simply commit to 3 times per week @ 15 minutes a session. There are a couple of mistakes people in your situation usually make (and I've been there before) and first of all that is joining and not going, which is just a waste of money. The second and most common mistake is joining and then going in and busting your BUTT working out for like 2 hours for a time or two and then getting it in your mind that place is the torture hut and you simply don't want to go "this week" and then you procrastinate and just quit going altogether.
So that's why to alleviate those situations join up and simply go 3 times @ 15 minutes each session. Don't even worry much about what you actually do there, simply focus on getting into the habit of going there.
As for food, that's my issue as well. I've read a ton about all the reasons for being overweight, you eat when you're sad, you eat when you're angry, you eat to avoid doing stuff, etc etc..but IMO the biggest reason a lot of us are fat is not usually mentioned. And that reason is FOOD TASTES GREAT to some of us. And then there's the social aspect as well.
My recommendation for you is twofold - first, start looking at substitutes but keep eating what you like. If you love spaghetti then eat spaghetti but substitute either the low-carb spaghetti (look for Dreamfields brand in the black box) or whole wheat spaghetti. Then instead of hamburger or sausage use ground turkey. Add some veggies, green peppers, mushrooms, squash, zucchinni and use a ton of sauce. The point is you should still be able to enjoy food but eat healthier. The second part that I'd recommend is to eat only until you are mildly full, then making yourself wait at least 20 minutes before you eat anymore. I used to have the problem of eating until I was stuffed. As in uncomfortable. That's something you need to avoid.
Anyways, hope these tips help. Remember, baby steps...not drastic changes. Yes you won't lose as much with baby steps as drastic changes but you will stick with the baby steps and you won't the drastic changes. I've lost about 50 pounds in the last year using these tactics. I'm stalled right now so I'm trying to kind of go to the next level but that's just part of the "game"...getting plateaued.
Anyways, good luck and try to check in here at least 2 or 3 times a week. It'll keep you honest.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
I came into college at 160, I'm 6'1, and currently sit at 200... I'm trying to get back to 180-185. Just started playing rugby, but the biggest thing is getting to the gym and stopping my eating habits, which include everything not healthy.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
I've heard conflicting things about what to eat. Obviously healthy food is best... but some people say watching calories is the best way to drop weight, and others say carbs and fat are what you need to keep an eye on. As for me I have pretty much only been watching calories and trying to stay at or below 500 cals under my maintenance level. At my weight my calorie level for weight loss is roughly 2300/day. I try to hit 2000 and if I go over a little, I have some wiggle room.
But a lot of my calories come from what you would call unhealthy food. For example today I had some bacon, a Tendercrisp sandwich from BK, some chicken strips, and ice cream as my food, and I clocked in right at 2300 or 2400 in calories for the day. But if I was watching fat or carbs or stuff like that, I would have gone way over. I guess I will see what the scale says Thursday, but I'm curious if you guys know anything. Obviously my diet today was not ideal (I promise it's not an everyday occurance!) but will it still work if the calories are low enough?Comment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
Calories in vs Calories out is king. Sure there are other numerous health benefits from getting your cals only from 'healthy' sources but at the end of the day if you eat less than you burn you will lose weight.
Moojenowski i feel your pain regarding weight gain in college. I went in a lean 80kgs and left a pudgy 106kg (gained 57lbs in 4 years). All that booze, partying and fast food really took it's toll. Like you said you just have to be consistent and try to minimize the damage. You don't want to miss out on too much because you are only in college once but just try not to go crazy and try to make healthy choices where possible. The rugby should give you good cardio (i played at college as well, good times) but the keg parties and pub crawls after the game etc probably wiped out any good the extra cardio did.Comment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
From my weight loss experience, the key for me is to eat a low-sugar, high-protein diet. Hitting up the gym is also very important, but a lot of people think that they'll drop weight just by lifting. But the truth is, you gotta get the heart pumping to shed the fat, and lift weights to build the muscle.
I usually go to the gym 4 times a week. for 30 about 30 minutes I will do the lifts for the designated muscles for that day (for instance I'll do a full chest workout one day, then shoulders, arms, and back the next). I then spend about 15 minutes doing ab work, followed by anywhere from 10 to 35 minutes of cardio, i.e. treadmill, bike, or elliptical.
Diet when dropping weight: Breakfast is either a power bar or a bowl of Kashi Go Lean Cereal. Both about 9 grams of protein in the serving I eat and provide natural sugars. After a workout I'll have a protein shake, as well as a protein bar, which totals at 47 grams of protein. Then for dinner (don't really eat lunch because the protein bar is pretty filling) two egg whites and a chicken breast.
Doing this has gotten me great results, and it doesn't really feel like a diet to me, although I do have cravings for ice cream, chocolate, and other sweets at times. But to calm my sweet tooth I usually take down a few sugar free popsicles.Comment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
So in a day you eat:
Bfast: Protein bar / bowl of cereal
A protein bar
A protein shake
Dinner: 2 egg whites and chicken breast
and that's it? What is that like 800-1000 cals?
I would be starving all day if ate just that.......Comment

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in
Just starting working out again...
Stats:
6'5"
252 pounds
GOAL: 225 pounds
I play hoops at least once per week, but I am starting a lifting routine. I need to start slow so I don't burn myself out. My ultimate goal is to get down to 225 and then get back up to 240 through lifting and diet.
I was at 255 at the beginning of the week (Sunday). Three pounds down, and all I have really done is start lifting and checking my diet a bit. I am still eating a solid amount of calories but no more night eating. That will make a huge difference right there.
I'll keep you all posted...Comment
