Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Finished my fast at 6:30 pm (started it at 6:30 pm yesterday) and man, I feel great.

I ordered Pizza Hut pasta (lasagna) for delivery at exactly 6:30 pm - so it was there when my time came around at work.

I thought that I would dig in uncontrollably at the sight of warm food in front of me - but....

I did not salivate, I took my time, cut up a square of the lasagna, and just ate it regularly.

I felt fool after just that square - leaving more than half left. For the first time this year, I've felt satisfied and full after a meal.

I'm a believer of the ESE method, this is so easy to do - and I actualy feel great for once.

The next fast is going to be Saturday night 7p to Sunday 7p - playing golf Sunday, so the day will go really fast. (no pun)

What gives with all the people just popping in and spouting how somebody is doing something wrong? I'm not talking about you DC, you have actually stayed and are following and attempting to get a grasp at understanding what's going on. That said what gives with all the scientific experts we suddenly have floating around telling these guys how they SHOULD be doing things? Everybody's body is different and some people respond to different things. If somebody wants to respond with a suggestion or a tip that's one thing, but to pop and and say, "You're doing it wrong and this is why," just seems awfully short-sighted and unintelligent to me.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Anybody know where I can get a healthy meal plan of 5 to 7 days, ranging from 1700 - 1900 calories or something of that type? I want it to be to build muscle mainly, but I also need to lose a little bit of belly fat, so that might factor in as well.

I've looked online for a while, and all I could find is either extremely restricting meal plans of 1500 calories or less, or "gimmicky" diets.

So anybody know of a site that could offer a VAGUE or general meal plan that I could use to start eating a little healthier?

Eating lots of small meals has no impact on your ability to burn carbs, if anything eating every 2-3 hours means you have more spikes in your insulin levels which actually hinders fat loss as opposed to fasting which drops insulin levels allowing for more fat to be burnt.

It's all good if you prefer the other way of doing it, many people have gotten fantastic results doing it, i just personally prefer this method. I don't think it really matters how you do it as long its something that you are comfortable with and can stick with for the long term.
for the record, I was not debating the merits of intermittent fasting. I believe they two are completely different topics.

I personally believe any kind of short/temporary calorie deficit like that is a good and healthy way to help aid fat loss (notice I didn't say weight loss).

of course, what guys like odogg are doing I consider something entirely different, and I seriously question how healthy it is. Not only for the long term, but even for weight loss. Sure you are losing weight, but how much of that is muscle.

Man I am just getting back in the door. You will see me regularly in this thread. My comments aren't meant to be, "Why are you doing that. That is wrong."
Moreso, "Are you SURE doing this should be your first option or are you looking for a quick fix."
This fasting seems like it is meant to be a quick fix. I am not sold on it at all though but I guess folks can already tell that from my words.
                  Concrete evidence/videos please

DC - Egg beaters are eggs with just much less yolk. Just to compare one brown egg will have 70 calories and 4.5 grams of fat whereas an egg beater will have 30 calories and 0 grams of fat. That's why I mix and match. I eat regular eggs most of the time but if I want a nice big omelet I supplement it with egg beaters so I am not eating as many yolks, thus getting much less calories and fat.

Have you not gotten back down to your ideal size because of your job? No time to put the right amount of work in? That is usually when people try these gimmicks. Wehn they convince themselves that they have done everything in their power to reach their goals but just fail miserably. Can you HONESTLY say that you have given it your all?
I'm curious about this as well. I understand everyone is different but I've lost ~20lbs in the last 3 months with nothing more than a balanced diet and regular exercise. Maybe those results aren't drastic enough for some but it was important to me to come up with a plan and lifestyle that I can maintain after I get the weight off.

I've been following a healthy diet @ 1500 calories and working out for 30 minutes 3 to 4 times a week for the past 2 years and I lost just over 20 pounds, or 1 pound per month. However since I've cut my calories to 1200 a day, have been working out for 45 minutes 5 times a week and fasting one day a week I've lost 20 pounds in 2 months. That averages out 2.5 pounds per week. 2.5 pounds per week is not losing too much weight in one week. The recommended average by all doctors to lose is 1 to 2 pounds per week.

The bottom line for me is am willing to work hard and lose this weight faster than 10 pounds in a year (lol) so that I can get on with my life. At this point short of having a major health issue there is really not much anyone could say to me to get me to change what I'm doing, although don't get me wrong I welcome all suggestions and input just the same.

Just got back from the gym...I did 22 minutes treadmill (200 calories, i know this is sad but i'm terrible on the 'mill due to my knees), some weight lifting for legs, arm and core inc. pull ups for about 15 mins(150??), then finished off with 10 hard mins on the elliptical (130 calories)...so total calories burnt is about 450-500 calories.

                                I had for lunch:

Steak, chicken, shrimp, fish from Japanese steakhouse (small portion)(200 cals)
                                bean sprouts (20)
                                fried rice (90)
                                grapefruit 1/2 (70)
                                side salad w/sauce (100)
Total Calories: 480....i'll just basically say the workout wiped out lunch I guess...
