Do you like Rage Against The Machine Chase? They are probably my no1 "go to" workout band.

As much music as I've listened to, I've never really gave them much attention. If I heard one of their songs, I could pick it out from a mile away. There's no hiding their vocals..

One of my favorite metal songs, from an amazing album. Warning though some strong language at parts.

        Spoiler

As far Metalcore, hardcore. I don't know if you'll like these bands but I've been doing some searching and listening to Structures, Confession, Volumes (love this band). Some older stuff like As I Lay Dying, Older Underoath.. (their only chasing Safety and before), and Killswitch Engage.

Machine head is good too, for working out I hate when a song is good but a slow starter. Like it has a minute long intro before it gets heavy. I'll be ready to lift but have to wait until the song really kicks in to start.

AILD and Killswitch are some of my all time favorites still. I saw them in concert when I was 16, saw Lamb of God the same year, after the Sacrament CD came out. I was lucky to have parents who would let me take the occasional week day off from school to go to Atlanta

I made good grades and never gave them any trouble.

I'm going to add that Parkway Drive song to my playlist. I like some of their songs that I've heard, but not all... love some of the older Bring me the Horizon too.. their first CD was awesome then they went to ****.

I plan on starting to work out either tom or Tuesday and was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on a few things. I jusr weighed in at 6'5" 226 lbs. I would like to build strength and become more healthy. I plan on doing at least 3 full body workouts at my complex's fitness center and eating a high protein diet with as few processed foods as possible. My questions are:
              1. Could someone offer advice or point me towards a solid resource regarding pres workout supplements and creatine. I have looked up a few products but there seems to be mixed information about how safe or neccesary they are.
              2. Cardio. I am trying to build muscle bit generally get healthier as well. Is a good amount of cardio a good idea or something that would hinder muscle and strength gains ?

Thanks for any help, it just seems like there is a ton of contradictory information. Out there.

^^^ Hey another Kindle Fire owner. I love mine!

This is good stuff guys, lots of good suggestions I haven't listened to much before.

King I totally agree with you. I love bands like Tool but don't like to listening to them while lifting as some of the songs take ages to really get going....

I've tried a few different proteins in the past few months. Some people say to stay away from anything that isn't soy-based if you're looking to stay lean, but at 6'5" you're not exactly anywhere near being over weight.

I've been using Syntha-6 for a few weeks now and like it a lot. I work with a few guys who use it and they turned me on to it and both are in excellent shape. If you decide to buy your' products from GNC, don't spend much time listening to all of their advice. The first thing they're going to take you to is the "Amp Wheyabolic" GNC brand and try to sell you on it.. it's garbage.

Everyone finds something different that works for them, but so far I'm really liking the Syntha-6. As far as preworkout goes, I've used several different things over the years. When I worked out in HS I uses Nanovaper, which is pretty sweet but got costly quick and after a few weeks of use my body started to feel to weird for my comfort.

I'm tempted to try the No-xplode from the same guys who make Syntha-6, but I like the results I get from Jack3d. If you eat healthy and have plenty of energy naturally, I'd try staying away from all of it. Most of it contains some stuff that most doctors would advise against, but if you consume plenty of water and eat decently healthy you should be just fine.

So what I use right now is

                  Jack3d (preworkout)
Syntha-6 (protein, amino acids, meal replacement)
Amino Boost 3000 [pill form] (days where I don't workout)

I'm sure someone else here is using something different that works for them, the key is to finding what works for you.

                      Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Chase hit the nail on the head Bigfoot it's all about finding what works best for you. I don't think there are any 'must have' supplements because good quality food is the most important thing but I usually recommend a multi vitamin and a decent whey protein from a reputable company like BSN or Optimum Nutrition.

Creatine is pretty decent as well but I don't use it myself and there are heaps of health benefits associated with fish oil as well if you wanted to look into that. I just started taking a new pre-workout called ThermoJet a few days ago and so far so good but it is expensive. Most pre-workout supps are pretty much caffeine and vasodialators (help you get a big pump by dilating blood vessels) but aren't really a must have imo. You'd often get a decent result with a strong cup of coffee but if you find they help you and don't give you the jitters etc like some of them can go for it.

In relation to your cardio question if you are relatively new to this I would generally recommend people start with weights 3 x per week and cardio 2-3 x per week on the alternate days and have one or two days off completely. You don't 'need' cardio to get in great shape but there are numerous health benefits and it shouldn't impede your muscle gaining progress as long as you aren't starving yourself and the cardio isn't negatively affecting your lifting.

There is heaps of data supporting HIIT training for cardio but I personally find low intensity (ie walking the dog) fasted cardio in the morning great for health and being able to stick with in the long term plus it's easier on the joints which are already taking a pounding from the weight lifting anyway.

                        What routine?

I'll be starting this once I get used to handling the KB more. Still a little ugly at times on my swing.

Nice work Chase. I did chest / tri's yesterday + 30 mins cardio. This morning was back / bi's + 30 mins cardio. I'm undecided if I should do an hour cardio or have a day off tomorrow (legs are pretty beat up from lots of cardio) then leg's on Wednesday and Shoulders / abs on Thursday.

One thing I have changed this year is rather than doing say Monday: chest / tri Tuesday: Back / Bi's is that I just do 2 on then 1 off regardless of the day. This way with my crazy work schedule that has me travelling a fair bit I can just jump straight back into the next workout when I get back without missing a beat. Working well so far.

I worked back/bis with some abs mixed in.

I skipped out on cardio today, which is rare for me...

My lower back is finally almost healed up, so I haven't been able to work my back like I've wanted or work chest exactly how I wanted.

I should be able to get back in my routine now.
