For cardio what do most of you guys do? Treadmill, Elliptical, or Bike? Or a combination of sorts?

I hate it in the gym....so
I walk and during the walk I do long sprints.

        Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

        No gym for me, either.

I got in a good workout yesterday. I finished it off with 100 push ups, before bed, in sets of 30, 25, 25, 20.

Weights wise, started light. Just used 15-20lb dumbbells. I will fetch for my old resistance bands tonight, to mix them in.

I'll probably throw in some ab workouts.

I know one thing, no matter what, every workout will end with a decent number of push ups.

Diet wise, without realizing it, I didn't drink even a sip of water, while at work. I had a Monster, rarity these days, and forgot about the bottled water I had. Today has been different.

Elliptical, I may only be 21 but the treadmill kills my knees after awhile and if I sit on them bikes for too long my *** hurts.

            Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I miss push ups. Unfortunately I have a bad right elbow and shoulder. The elbow grinds badly when I do pushups, and my shoulder does to a lesser extent. But my shoulder hurts worse than my elbow afterwards. Last time I did pushups, my shoulder was hurt again for 2 or 3 weeks. I have really bad shoulder problems though and frequently have to take a week off from lifting/working out because of them. I'm only 19 too, but I won't sit here and mope about it, just work with it as best I can.

I hope to continue to gain weight this year. I started lifting for the first time in my life last April or May. When I started I was 6'2 155, and at one point recently I was up to 180. Very good gains, unfortunately recently I got pretty sick and I wasn't able to eat much for a few weeks and I lost 10 lbs Then I managed to hurt my wrist bowling so I'm waiting for that to heal up to start lifting my upper body again. I really want to get back to it as soon as I can, but with injuries it's tough. Still able to do legs and core though.

My goal is to get bigger than my older brother. He no longer lifts like he used to when he played football, but he's about 5'11 180 as of right now, and I've always told him one day I'll be bigger than him. I hope to make that true as soon as I can.

I love working out, it's one of my few passions in life, once I started last year I have not looked back. Probably the best thing that could have happened at that point in my life.

No gym either as I do everything at home for the most part.

Treadmill for 20-30 minute sessions only. Any more and you are no longer buring fat as it will eat into your muscles for fuel.

              P90x
Interval Training with short rest periods between different excersises. (Light Weights, heavy weights, BowFlex)
              Insanity
Zumba......yea I know but it works.
              Dance Central 1 & 2
              Soccer

Just to name a few ways to change things up.

                Be careful with Insanity.

Great work out, however, very rough on the knees.

Because I get bored easily I'll mix it up from time to time between treadmill and stationary bike. If the weather's nice I'll jog outside. If I'm really bored on the treadmill or bike I'll switch to the other one halfway through.

Do any of you use any protein bars or just shakes ?

A lady at work brought me a box of protein bars, because they mess with her "weight watchers" diet. They are packed with protein ( 20g) and don't have much of anything else in them.

I do, but you have to be careful with them as a lot of them are packed with terrible ingredients. Most of them contain soy protein, which some people have a problem with but I could care less.

The only ones I really mess with are the Clif Builder bars. They taste pretty darn good and don't have a lot of the extra nonsense in them.

Very sparingly do I use protein bars. I mainly use shakes and add a spoonful of peanut butter to kick it up a notch. To be creative, I will make a chocolate protein pudding and then store it in the fridge if I start getting that sweet tooth craving.

Detour makes a pretty good protein bar, think it packs 30g of protein (whey). I've had others but they didn't seem to digest well for me. Also I only use the bars in a pinch if I don't have a meal or shake.

Don't believe all the "oh no cardio will eat all my muscles" nonsense. 30-60 minutes of low intensity cardio like walking on a treadmill will not result in catabolism unless you are literally starving yourself.

I did leg day this morning at 4.30am, was a real *** kicker!

                                ATG Squats x 5 sets
                                Front Squats x 3 sets

                                Absolutely destroyed after this!

Anyone else find that it's easier to stay calm and relaxed throughout the day when you are working out regularly? I swear it feels like nothing can phase me and I am in a really mellow mood for the rest of the day if I really push myself in the morning.
