    Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Yeah, but you have to be pretty diligent with paying attention to it. If I feel the slightest bit of give, I change up the regiment to something that's a little more conducive to "supporting" the shoulder moreso.

If I work the support muscles for a while, but then layoff for a while, and try to do something like benching, forget about it.

Fatigue during pushups where you feel the slightest bit of "wobble", stop, same with bench. You never know when it's going to pop out again. I've had pretty good luck with it, only reaggrivating it 2-3 times since.

        Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Yeah go see a profession Ehh. Don't take any chances with things like that.

I strongly suggest never bench pressing again. That movement destroys more shoulders than any other and isn't even required for awesome chest development.

I am stuck out of town for 3 days with work so I bought this book on my kindle and did one of the workouts this morning:

        http://www.amazon.com/You-Are-Your-O.../dp/0971407614

It's written by Mark Lauren who is a US special forces trainer and it shows you how to make an awesome workout anywhere at any time with just your body weight and some common things you always have around you. I did a 30 minute push / pull workout in my hotel room this morning and it kicked my ***!

This first workout in the beginners section was all 'ladders' where you do one rep then pause, do two reps then pause, do 3 reps then pause etc as you pyramid up to failure. Once you reach failure you pyramid back down until you get to 1 rep again. Today's workout was 7.5 mins x 4 different exercises for a total of 30 mins and was way harder than I thought it was going to be. Pretty cool to be able to get such an awesome session in just using a bench top and a door in my motel room.

The exercise I did today were ladders of:

        Bench pushups

Let me In's (this is Mark Lauren by the way)

        Tricep Dips

        Let Me Up's.
(Couldn't find a picture but it's basically pullups under a bar / table / benchtop like this: http://exercisegarage.com/let-me-ups-the-instructions/)

The guy also had an ipod/android app for $2 that goes through the workouts etc in order and shows you pictures etc as you go so I'm going to get that in a week when I get my new iphone.

He has 4 different 10 week programs from beginner to elite and might be something to consider if you guys want to try something a bit different.

Late to the game, but I am beginning a major weight loss campaign.
          Situation:
Two and a half years ago I went from a solid 195 to a weak 175 due to divorce. Since then I have balooned to 226. I started eating again, my metabolism was screwed up, and stress went in the direction of weight gain rather than loss. I have been eating healthy and exercising for a month and have only lost 5 pounds. I must say I'm discouraged. I still deal with an extraordinary amount of stress(my stepson has autism and my daughter is graduating from high school, blended family difficulties, and I married a princess). I need a kickstart to get me going. I've been thinking about some of those pills just to get this stubborn fat that's hanging on off. Probably not a good idea, but I'm a little desperate because I have been told to lose it.

Figure out what you should be eating based on a bmr calc, subtract 500 from it. Lose 1lb a week. Be patient.

You don't need pills to lose weight. You need to eat less.

              Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I may not be able to make it to the gym, today, so I'm thinking about using the P90 back and biceps clip to at least get something in..

              Wish me luck.

I never bench press. I do my usual flys with the machine both ways and the cables and I bench free weights (up to 65 lbs flat, and 55 for incline/decline) and inclined pushups. I really hate to bench press... It seems to do more harm than good for me.

Question for the guys here with a gym membership.

Is $79 a month ok for a family (my fiancee and myself) for a YMCA full membership? It's half a mile from us, and would include any classes they offer there, using the pool, etc.

I did some quick searching and that seems ok for 2 people (most nicer gyms aren't cheap either), and this doesn't require me to sign any contracts (just has auto pay and I can cancel at any time)...

We just want to go to a gym and start getting in better shape (prior to our wedding lol) and since it's half a mile away it's a great option. Thought I'd ask your advice just to make sure we're not getting totally ripped off. I think it's worth it just because of location to us, at least as of now.

Why are worried about losing 'only' 5lbs in a month? That's pretty much the perfect way to do it. Dropping crazy weight in a hurry is not the best way to do it and beside 1lb of fat in a week is a fair bit when you think about it. This is what a lb of fat looks like:

Just stick with what you are doing and you'll get there in time.

This. No such thing as a magic pill.

By Australian standards that is cheap! The last commercial gym I went to was $800 per year and that was only for one person and you were locked into a 12 month contract.

Being convenient like that is a big deal because you are more likely to stick with it if its not a royal pain in the *** to get there etc.

Thanks for the input...just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something (and most places don't have clear costs on their websites, gyms are misleading I've found).

I do agree that we're more likely to use it since it's close. We're hoping to tour this week (since they have a May deal that has a $75 discount on the sign up fee (normally $100, now $25), so makes it even a better deal.

Yeah sounds good. The other (US based) guys will probably give you a better idea if that price is good or not but the location and the fact there is no lock in contract are definitely positives in my book.

Like you I have seen Gym's can be downright dodgy when it comes to letting people get out of their contracts and giving truthful information etc. GL with it man and congrats on the upcoming nuptials!

I pay $20 a month for myself. That includes a lot of classes, but there's no pool or basketball courts.

I know the LA Fitness around here is $10 a week, and they have a lot more stuff, so it seems like a solid deal for what you get.

I just recently started paying $20 a month for mine at the new gym I started going to (it was $30 but I forgot I had my old college ID in my wallet so I get $10 off now). That includes the pool, the basketball courts, a sauna and there's some classes that I've never gone to that are included as well.

My gym is $32 a month for a 24/7 gym with a steam room ,tanning (I don't care about) and that includes kickboxing, zumba, boot camp, etc... all included... I don't have any use for anything except the gym, really.. but it's nice to know it's included if I wanted to use it.

I stopped by a local VS store (Vitamin Shoppe) and picked up some flaxseed oil along with a 2.5 lb tub of Muscle Milk Cake Batter to change things up a bit. I was about to try the Myofusion Cinnamon one but backed out. In any case, I also tried looking around for MusclePharm's Combat Powder and the store didn't have any, although I spotted Assault and Re-Con. Very economical and space saving, I was surprised to see that those little tubs hold that many servings with the serving size it has.

In any case, somehow I've gone up in weight to around 141-142. Not exactly what I was expecting.

Yeah the Combat Powder is incredibly hard to find in actual stores, GNC in my area don't carry it, and the Vitamin Shoppe by me, only has the plain Vanilla kind.

Regardless I order all my Fitness supplements from BodyBuilding.com saves me so much hassle, great prices, and they always ship promptly. Plus I can find any flavor I want from there.
