    Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

For those interested, the 2011 CrossFit Games will be on TV Saturday and Sunday afternoons on ESPN. See what the hype is all about, but also take it with a grain of salt, these guys and girls are insane!

FYI, seeing a lot of people requesting chest and shoulder work. Since I've been doing CrossFit I've not been doing "bench sets" like I used to in the gym to get stronger, yet just out of curiosity I tried some traditional bench sets and knocked out 5x3 of 275, which truely shocked me. That's stronger than I've been in quite some time. I guess this stuff works. You guys have a great weekend and keep up the good work.

I wanted to throw this shoulder workout to you Feared because I seen you just recently changed it up. I'm not 100% sure where my buddy found it, but it works really well and you should give it a try instead of doing just those regular Shoulder Presses.

Well, I thought yesterday's WOD was a doozy. I now have a Salonpas pain relief patch on my right buttocks.

        so awesome...

If you want a killer shoulder burn I like to dropset normal overhead shoulder press with Arnold presses. It's a killer combo!

            Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Thanks guys, I actually usually do Arnold Presses instead of the standard shoulder press on my main shoulder days.

It's just that yesterday I decided to piece together my Shoulder workout at the end of a grueling Biceps routine... so I wanted to go with a little less intensive stuff, or else I would have had to drop some weight. Which I did end up doing at the end of the workout, by the time I got to Front Plate Raises.

As of right now, the only thing my buddy and I would do is go full out on the bag for a 1-2 minutes, take a small break (which the break was us holding the bag for the other one while they did theirs) and we'd do it four times and then hop on the treadmill.

Since we didn't start the boxing training last week, we're starting it this week and once we run through it a few times, I'll post what we do there.

                    Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I've had just about every injury in my life outside of tearing my ACL, just added a new one last week.

Somehow my left shoulder popped out of the socket while bench pressing. It wasn't an "oh ****" moment where the barbell collapsed on top of me though. About an hour after I finished my shoulder got really sore and as the day progressed it got more and more painful and my range of motion really decreased.

I slept on it that night because I didn't want to go sit in an emergency room if it was nothing major, I wanted to give it a night's rest. The next morning I could barely move it, It was basically stuck in a front chicken wing position, with my left hand almost resting on my right shoulder like if I had a sling on. Then I got in my car drive to work, lifted my left elbow out to the side and heard this loud crack and then my range of motion all came back. It's still been sore as hell though but at least it's not painful and it's back in place.

Anyone else ever dealt with this? I don't know if it's even worth it to lift anymore. Everything I've read about shoulders and left is that once this happens it'll probably happen again and again eventually. Worst...

Probably a torn labrum or rotator. Same thing happened with me, other than I was low crawling with a 280lb guy on my back

If it feels better after that loud crack, don't assume all is well. Any time you move it "just right", it will fall back out of place, and the more it does it, the easier it falls out the next time.

Yep, I needed it. It's tough to replicate, but doing some range of motion with pressure applied to it, he was able to get it to pop out and diagnose it. It was as painful as almost any injury I've had. After the surgery I wasn't able to give it proper time for rehab, and ended up doing it again. Living with it to this day.

Yeah I would definitely get that checked out by a professional, you never know if you might have problems down the road with that shoulder if it goes unchecked.

I wouldn't say give up on Weightlifting, if you enjoy it. Just don't go as heavy on lifts that put stress on the shoulder joints, like Bench Press tends to do. Maybe cut 20-40 lbs off your usual bench, and don't try to max out. (once your shoulder heals of course)

You can pray that it's a partial rotator cuff tear and then you won't need surgery. I know when I partially tore mine in 2008, it felt like a complete tear for about 2-3 weeks. Now, I do say you won't need it but it would be smart to get it though. This is just me speaking from experience if it's a partial. I have most of the movement in my shoulder, but not as much as I do in my other from the other which limits me with some workouts.
