    Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I've only played tennis once, but I'm going to start playing with some friends. I was invited to play tonight, but I was all ready out on a date.

It should be an alternate source of cardio, rather than my usual boring elliptical, treadmill, and bike

Tennis is awesome cardio and great fun.

I did a 9k run this morning, starting to really enjoy this running thing.....

        Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Just did a crossfit "adventure race" on Saturday at my wife's box. Grueling. Then, right after I finished she sneaks up on me and snaps a pic of me looking like I'm about to lose my breakfast (which I was). Thanks, honey, VERY flattering....very flattering.

^^^ Awesome pic man. That level of 'leaness' (not sure if that is even a word) is my goal. Fit, healthy and strong.

With a newborn baby and 3 year old in the house I have only been getting about 5-6 hours sleep at most on most nights but I still haven't missed a training session in ages. I was up at 4 this morning and did back followed by a quick 4k run.

          Back training was

chin up / pull ups x 4 sets
          Deadlift x 3 working sets
          Barbell row's x 3 sets
DB Rows x 3 sets per side

The run was fast paced trying to improve my VO2 max so I really pushed myself the whole way. Kind feels weird finishing my workout but 5.40am when the moon is still out but I gotta do what I gotta do.

          Random motivational pic:

It was a hot, muggy, MF-er out there. I wish I didn't get all red faced when I push hard, but oh well.

I've preached the Paleo diet gospel for a while now, and that's the key to the "lean-ness". I could workout all I wanted, but if I stray from the diet, the definition disppears so fast it makes your head spin. Wish I was in my 20's again...

BTW, your pic got cut off right down the middle, couldn't read the caption

There was even a toddler/kids race in the parking lot! You should have seen those little ones getting after it! I think the circuit was:

            -hula hoop
            -ball slams
            -agility ladder
            -thrusters with a PVC pipe
            -burpees
            -sprint to finish

My daughter started it, but then got sidetracked and didn't even finish. Not surprising at all...

One week of "modified" P90X in the books. At this rate I should finish somewhere in early July. I went on a run earlier and noticed a jump in my stamina, so I'm heading in the right direction. I guess I can add flexibility to my goals.

On a side note, seems like Syntha-6 has made its way in my protein rotation. Mochaccino is very good.

Damn man, you look great. Btw, how strictly do you stick to the Paleo diet and how long have you been on it? Just out of curiosity (And I apologize if you have mentioned it before in this thread). I would like to get on it, but I dont know if I could cut seasonings (I dont salt anything, but Hot sauce on everything and I like my meats heavily seasoned) and the occasional whole grain bread or rice. Also, does the paleo diet allow supplements like whey? Any key sources I should look into? (Like the leangains guy for IF?) Thanks man.

I'm not what some may call "hardcore", but pretty strict. Up until about a month or so ago I was still eating a whole grain cereal, but now eat some kind of meat for breakfast along with my fruit salad. I've been practicing it for about 14 months, and have lost 30 lbs and dropped to around 6-7% body fat. I salt/season things, just not heavily. I still enjoy the spirits occasionally too. I eat legumes and also brown rice every once in a while. You gotta live, man! Still, I don't eat the processed crap at all, no fried foods, nothing processed (enriched flour, gluten products, etc.), and I've never had a sweet tooth Earlier in the thread I posted a pretty good blog with paleo recipes...I'll see if I can dig it up again.

Oh, and yes, I take a whey protein recovery drink after workouts (Rejuvenate by Stronger Faster Healthier)

I've just started to make fresh fruit smoothies whenever I'm hungry during lunch time and later at night to see if that'll help me cut a little weight. Grapes, bananas and Sunny-D and I'll probably start throwing some celery and an egg in there as well.

Still kind of floating around 365 since the last time I posted but you can tell that I've lost a good bit of fat.

I follow a similar path with Paleo - I still eat Ezekiel bread in the morning with almond butter and two eggs.

Paleo will lean you out pretty quick - I've been on it for about 9 months. You start learning to eat for performance and that's enough motivation for me not each anything processed or fried. I too will have an occasional adult beverage, but my drinking has curbed so significantly, that I will get a buzz from a 12oz beer.

My only vice is chocolate - so I have to keep dark chocolate (>70%) in the house at all times.

I hear you! I had 2 glasses of wine with dinner the other night and couldn't drive home!

I just want to emphasize that Paleo is NOT easy. Takes a lot of deication b/c it's a lifestyle change. I was raised that every meal was a big production, almost an "event". Takes a while to get out of that mindset especially with all the shows now on the food network showing these pigs stuffing themselves in all corners of the world (not that I wouldn't enjoy that myself ) I'm lucky to have a wife that has the same philosophy as me regarding eating: "Food is fuel for our fun".
