Yea, that is part of the motivation, but the ex did not really exercise and had a number of vices, many of which I had but was attempting to quit. Difficult to quit smoking and get on a normal sleep schedule when your SO smokes a pack a day and sleeps from 5AM to 2PM. But like I said, no longer a problem :-)

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
I've already gone from 172 to 169 just working out a couple times and eating healthier over the last few weeks.
Hoping to get to at least 160, seems like a good weight for my height(5'6 1/2") given my muscle/body build. Once I get to 160 i'll just see how I look and see if I can get lower and still look good(I just want my abs back and just a healthy weight for the future lol)Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
I have two pairs of 5-fingers - the Sprints and Komodo Sports. I like the Sports better because there is more rubber on the bottom to help prevent major stone bruising. I was also wearing these for crossfit when I first started, but have switched to a minimalist shoe. You can find good minimalist shoes by New Balance and Inov8.
I really enjoyed these in the gym more than running - unless you're running on trails. I took them to Costa Rica and they were a Godsend - not to mention a great conversation starter. People will look at your strangely, but girls are always the most curious. If a girl asks about your Vibrams, good chance she's into staying healthy.
Which brings me to my next point. When you find a girl that is as dedicated to fitness and diet as you are, you won't want to stop hitting the gym. It really becomes a way of life - they way to test your physicality, mental strength and to relieve stress from the day. I totally understand why people drink after a hard day - working out keeps me from wanting to do that.
I want to applaud everyone in this thread for their dedication and commitment to a healthier lifestyle.Comment

What type of surfaces are you going to be running on?

My running has been going great recently and my endurance has improved immensely. I think I'm ready to tackle my first 10k next weekend.
I have been basically lifting one day then running the next and haven't taken a day off in a few weeks. I love the way I feel for the rest of the day when I really push myself in the morning plus the extra calories I get to eat (I LOVE food) is a bonus as well. Slowly getting fitter and leaner and actually eating more than I was before.Comment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Currently hitting a roadblock, just came down with some kind of Cold/Fever virus, I'm going to do my best to try and drink as much fluids as possible, rest, and try to keep my calorie intake best I can to avoid losing muscle.
Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise as my body could probably use some time off from lifting.Minnesota Vikings

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Ok pretty important questions, for the veteran weight lifters that browse this thread. (guys who have been on there workout regimen's for 2 years or more)
In the event that you get sick, how long do you wait before you go and hit the weights again?
I came down with a Cold/Fever and now It's starting to fade away, but I still feel a little fatigued, achey, sore throat, cough.
Obviously I'm not going to go in and just shred it, with a max intensity workout my first time back. Just want to go with a little Home workout, with light weights first time back.
Should I wait until all symptoms clearly subside, or can I do a work out even if I still feel a little of the side effects? Also I've lost quite a bit of weight due to Lack of appetite, dehydration while being sick. I have a feeling I'll just naturally put that weight back on, when I get back into my routine and start getting the appetite from my workouts again, right?Minnesota Vikings

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
So I've gone back to P90X. Plyometrics just kicked my butt, my stamina is nowhere near where it was when I first did this one back in 2008, but I gotta keep working at it.
I tried the BSN Syntha-6 RTD (Chocolate) last Friday and while it was good, the aftertaste was a bit weird for me. Is there anyone using the powdered tub version of this one? From my experience with Muscle Milk, the powdered version and the RTDs were different in aftertaste, so I'm assuming it's same with Syntha-6.Comment

I prefer the tub version + I can add in a banana or scoop of PB to make it interesting.Comment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Ran 9k yesterday morning which was a new personal best. I was feeling great at the end of the run and felt like I could go further without any trouble which give me home my eventual half mara goal is possible and sprinted the last three of four hundred metres home.
This morning was chest in the gym. I'm really liking this alternating gym and cardio sessions. Seems to keep both fresh and it seems less repetitive than when I was doing weights 5 days in a row etc.
I have recently bought ON chocolate peanut butter Casein protein and while it tastes ok it's hard to get used to how thick it is compared to the whey protein I used to drink.Comment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
I'm trying to get more lean/cut now, which is difficult.
I didn't have much problem gaining mass. I just loaded up on protein and kept increasing my weight each week or two. Now, I dropped 5-10 lbs on everything I'm doing and just getting a bunch of reps in.
With this new job, I'll have to commute further and use more gas, so I'm promising myself to start taking my lunch to work every day and eating healthier to try to drop what fat I have left....
So, I'm going to spend a month just trying to cut on what I've gained... should be funComment

I don't know why I never try a variety of flavors, but I think I will eventually. I just don't have the income right now for that yet.

Never had the RTD Syntha-6, but the Powdered mix were some of the best tasting Protein Powder's I've ever had. I mixed mines in a Blender with Milk, and I'd toss an Ice Cube in. I had the Strawberry, Mochaccino, & Vanilla Ice Cream flavors.
I'm currently using Optimum Nutrition's Whey Powder now, but I cycle between different Proteins. Really been wanting to try Muscle Pharm's Protein Blend, I believe it's called Combat Powder. Heard some good stuff about Muscle Pharm and their products but never got around to trying any.Minnesota Vikings
