    Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Can someone recommend a solid program to get me get? I've tried a lot, but some of them have been pretty boring (p90x, 10 min trainer, etc) and I haven't been able to commit.

We are expecting our first child (boy) and I want to just make sure I'm in good physical condition to be able to play with him and just feel more confident as a dad. Not sure if that make sense.

So please, recommend a program - I'm going to go full on with it. Thanks!

To be honest man, any program designed like P90x or Insanity will get "boring" if you aren't 100% committed. They are designed to be the same workouts over and over, so you have to be ok with that. P90x is a great program, and if you are serious about staying in shape, it's a fantastic program. My buddy at work is nearing the end of his first cycle of P90x and has lost 25 pounds on top of looking much more defined.

Thanks for the reply, man. I've done those ones before couple years ago and did all right - not great, but I just didn't enjoy the workouts. I was doing it with my buddies at the time and that made time pass. Recently tried on my own with Insanity, and it didn't excite me - if that makes sense.

I'm trying to find something that I can work on my own, at home - relatively different approach than p90x and insanity; aka those beachbody methods. I have been researching this weekend to make a decision end of day today so I can get crackin on Monday.

          DDP Yoga?

I'm not sure exactly what will hold your interest/what type of workouts you are looking for.

Not sure if you were joking, but I was actually reading about DDP before posting my response earlier. Crazy.

I'm really enjoy the "Combat" program from Beachbody. It's fun, its not your typical exercises (unless you're a MMA workout routine person, I'd guess) and the trainers are entertaining. Granted, at the end of the day it is still a Beachbody product so you kind of know what you're getting but it's a lot more fun than Insanity was and p90x looked, to me.

                No, not joking.

I swear by DDP Yoga (partially because I can't do workouts with a ton of impact anymore) and know others that do the same. It really works if you follow the program (and it's not crazy amount of time/days like the beach body ones.)

                  Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Just got home from Disney World and amazingly (park food/resort food isn't healthy! And I caved in and had an ice cream here and there) lost a couple pounds while I was there for the 8 days. Puts me at a total loss of 42 lbs now. Bought some new equipment today and going to start incorporating that into a new routine. Hoping to build some muscle and finish losing the last 20+ lbs I'd like to see. If I can get to 170-180 and get a bit more defined I will be happy.

I know it's been said but I'm glad to be back home and get back on track at eating healthy. It's amazing at how crappy you feel when you eat junk. Before I'd never realize the difference but now it's night and day.

I found a couple of his workouts on a Youtube like site and did them a few times but not regularly. What kind of results have you seen from the program if you don't mind me asking?

OH cool. Yeah, i need to gain flexibility and just be more proactive in stretching in general due to, what I feel will be, a growing lower back pain.

I'll check it out - would love to hear your testimony as well!

Well, I'm in kind of a weird position.

I always had issues gaining weight and such, and actuall focused on it when I was in DC for the military. This was basically just eating right and doing starting strength lifts and stuff but in the course of a year or so, I went from ~140 to ~175/180 (at about 6' tall.)

Fast forward and in the last 3 years I've had two shoulder surgeries. The first was for a torn rotator cuff and the second was for torn rotator cuff/labrum/AC Joint issues and part of the deltoid. ****ty situation. I also have a bunch of issues with my knees and hips, and I got medically discharged/put on VA disability for it. Arthritis in both of my knees. I'm 25, so it's a bit rough.

That leaves me unable to do most workouts since the impacts leave me in quite a bit of pain for the next few days.

Since starting (I don't do a strict regimen of it or anything, just basically when I feel good enough to do it I will) I've toned up a bit. After my last surgery I dropped all the weight I had put on lifting since I couldn't lift at all, and my rehab time (to where I am now and where I will stay, which is far from the 100% I started out at) was about 9 months.

I went from being stiff to easily being able to touch my toes (never have been able to do that before, as sad as it is), have a much greater balance and have actually been able to golf and go to the batting cages (and play a pickup game of softball) with none of the issues I thought I would run in to. My abs are almost fully back and my core is actually much stronger than I thought it would be.

I think everyone could benefit from doing it, it's just the fact that the word "yoga" is in the name that I think it may turn some people off. Actually the only reason I tried it in the first place is the video of Arthur that went viral. He is/was a disabled vet, who was obviously much worse off than I am, and his transformation from doing it was unreal. If he could do it, I could as well. We used to do p90X/insanity/every other crossfit type thing 4-5x a week when I was in DC and I can say I honestly like DDP Yoga more. It's "easier" but I've seen more results from it than I ever have any other workout-DVD type program.

The "transformations" page on the DDPYoga website is also pretty crazy.

Thanks for your testimony, man. That video of Arthur is just awesome, and super inspiring.

I tested out YRG fitness through some videos tonight - and holy wow, is it awesome. I feel great to not have to ever have to lift weights again; the videos of Chris Jericho too are pretty great.

All I have to say is I'm a believer, no impact - feels great; movements are quite defined and I really feel a lot of strength this is going to get me. Definitely a purchase.

Yeah, I was iffy on the thing but trying it for myself over time is what made me a true believer. The program guide book for it is pretty sweet as well. Has a few recipes and other "tips" for healthier living in general but it's all "at your own pace" type of deal.

Okay, you sold me on doing Yoga. However, instead of paying $120+ for DDPYoga, I decided to do a monthly $10 subscription to My yoga online.com to try it all out. Tons of stuff for my wife to do so it seems worth it. I am going to give it a go after weight lifting this evening.

Going the starter route as I am new to this.

Seems as if I've hit a weight loss plateau. I started at 242 and have been at 199 for almost two weeks now. I've really given up running the past week or so and been doing nothing but a mix of Insanity and some weights. Hopefully the evening rain holds up this week and I can get back to running more.

I've tried adding calories to see if I can get the scale to move but it hasn't worked. So I've dropped the past two days and will try to zig zag for the upcoming week. Anyone have any suggestions on overcoming this plateau?
