    Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

If you really want to cut down on calories but want to have some "pasta" dishes, go for spaghetti squash! I was skeptical at first but it was really good and easy to make.

    <iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/mPFErHz6zOM?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    * I prefer to just cut my squash in half and throw it in the over for 45 minutes - it takes longer but whatever I don't want to nuke it *

      Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I havent updated in a while since I plateaued in weight loss. This past week I added running in the morning to my routine and lost 5 pounds since last saturday.

I had anxiety about running stemming from my football days about shortness of breath and meeting team requirments yadda yadda. So I figured best way to get over it is to get good at running. My new goal on top of weight loss is becoming a decent distance/endurance runner. I started a running regiment that is very basic and gradually gets more intense with each passing week. This first week I got past my shin pains and my body adjusted to running faster than I expected. Im looking forward to my progress in both running and weight loss.

Iv been lifting but Im trying to find the right balance between food intake, fat loss, and muscle development.

I need to hunt some decent tips for running and getting my times down.

I may do some consulting in the Running thread and see what everyone says.

Sprints lower your overall run time, distance ups your endurance. You have to do a mix of working on them both.

I went from not running a mile and a half in 13 minutes to having a 3 mile time under 18 minutes (which was the max score for our 3 mile run.)

This isn't exactly true, you just have to be very smart about it.

For example say I go to Wendy's and get a grilled chicken sandwich meal, you can substitute the fries for a side salad (most places do that besides McDonalds) and for the drink I usually either get water or some form of juice. Wendy's Natural squeezed lemonade is also a good choice. Another thing is make sure you ask questions like what kind of sauces and such are on it, is there a wheat bread substitute you can use, if they maybe got low fat mayo, etc. I usually just order my food but ask for no sauces at all but still keep the lettuce, tomato, etc. on it. I then either take it home and put walden farm stuff on it or just eat it plain which is surprisingly good.

Like Chik fillet has grilled versions of all their menu. Get that instead of deep fried like nuggets for example.

But even then basically all you got to do is just watch amounts. With what I been doing its basically watching the quantity rather than what I eat other than the above.

I had extra colories last night to use, so, Sunday night is usually carry out night in the household.

I ordered the boys Dominoes deep dish and I was told 15 minute wait. Wendy's here I come.

So, I treated myself to the Grilled Asiago Cheese Ranch Chicken flatbread and small chilli. I found out why the Ranch Chicken is 200 calories more than the Honey Mustard Chicken. 2 slices of bacon, 1 slice of cheese and the ranch dressing. The positive about the whole experience I was very full from those items added and it tasted pretty good too.

Down 6 lbs from last week and 3 lbs from the doctor visit. Usually, the doc wants to check my blood every three months, he extended to 6 months. Besides my weight, all my blood work is in good shape.

Well I have been in a struggle as of late. The spiral began when I started missing my daily Insanity workouts. Lack of working out, questionable eating habits or lack there of lately as caused stress. No energy, poor outlook on everything.............I have to make the effort. Haven't been sleeping well at night and I am not feeling good about myself in general.

Starting Insanity Day 1 this evening. I will post daily to keep myself accountable this time. Went Vegan for a while, numbers came back in line and then I added fish and chicken. Turns out that by adding those to my way of eating just isn't for me. Energy and overall well-being took a hit. Going back to all Vegan as it is just so much easier on my body.

                        Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Just a little bit going on with me, some of it regarding my health and such.

I went back to Montgomery/MEPS Monday night/Tuesday morning. I weighed in at 204, my EKG was good, my blood pressure was only 120/78, and pulse was 68. Looks like things are good now, but I'm waiting to hear back from a Navy doctor in Tennessee, once he looks over my paperwork from the doctor. Luckily they are paying for all of this.

I was planning on going to get some laps in at the pool today with the girl, but I tried on my board/swim shorts and even with drawstrings I can't get them to stay on hardly. I guess I'll have to go buy some smaller ones.

I also made a trip to Huntsville last week to visit their dealership for work and this girl there said I looked smaller and I didn't even say anything to her first.

I've been getting that from various people, lately. Whether I look that different or not, it's nice to hear it from people from time to time.

I had to take the chain off my bike today and take a few links out of it. Luckily we have a chain breaker at the house so it only took a few minutes. I also hit it with the pressure washer and then re oiled the chain.

It's an older bike (Almost 12 years old), but I've kept it in pretty good shape. I just need an alternative for running. I'm getting bored with it.

I could get a good workout just riding up and down the road and climbing my driveway with it (My driveway is up a hill). The first time I climbed the driveway I thought I was going to die.. lol. I'm looking for a different seat because as it is, I can barely even sit on that damn thing. I have to sit on just one side of my ***.. lol.

Hope this picture isn't too bad.. I took it with the phone.

People who have tried the Weight Watchers approach with the points, why did you decide to go that route instead of counting calories?

I am not sure which way I want to go. I have been using the Weight Watchers point style (not offical Weight Watchers, but an app that works the same), but I was thinking about counting calories.

For me, it's easier counting points than calories, plus there is activity points that you burn, too with WW, which enters into the equation of your points plus value.

Someone help me out here and tell me if my logic is off -

I usually have a "cheat" day on Friday at lunch. I don't go overboard or anything, but I'll eat something I like. My thinking is this - I workout on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I should change my "cheat" day to Thursday, because I will workout that evening and burn most of it off? Am I totally wrong with this way of thinking?
