With the smoker side-box, can you use chunked wood, too? I like using chunks as much as I can. I feel like it gives off a better, even smoke.

Right now I just smoke all in the barrel, but I do want to do some legitimate BBQ so I will probably need more than half of the barrel for meat.

Yes, my 2nd grill that I use for things that take less than 2 hours or that I just grill on is a charbroil with offset and I use the wood chunks in the firebox like I would my other smoker.

These cheap grills/smokers can actually be pretty good. Do a couple of modifications like a baffle, seal with RTV, and you got a grill for less than 150 that can perform like some that are 650 and up. I spent 160 on my charbroil and did those modifications, plus installed two temp gauges on both ends of the barrel and it has been a pretty darn good smoker, especially for the money I paid.

MSRP is $1699 for the kettle (minimum advertised is $1499).

I think I'll stick to my current set-up.

For sure pricey but that will be the next grill I get after I save for a bit.

Is it too early to talk about Memorial Day weekend and what everybody is planning on fixing? We've already set our menu.

Can't say that without telling us, ha. Not too early. I'm hoping to smoke a pork shoulder and some ribs. Nothing too big. That is selection weekend for the High School state tournament so I am usually anxiously awaiting our seeding while enjoying a few beers.

Look forward to seeing everyone's pictures.

Well, I want to smoke a couple racks of ribs and do some hickory smoked BBQ chicken. I'll probably smoked some more mixed nuts to have some appetizer/drinking munchies. Not sure on the sides outside of potato salad. For dessert I think we're going to try doing a homemade ice-cream cake again. The last time we did that was 3 years ago and it turned out really well.

I plan on having the offset going with baby backs, a couple of boston butts in the kamado, and few pounds of crablegs in the gas steamer. All while I drink lots of beer and do multiple cannonballs in my pool Just a few more weeks lol
