Yep. We'll maybe find out in a couple of hours. They are deploying three planes out there right now, I believe.

I don't know if it's just me, but I will be saddened if we just find the plane in water. Yeah, I don't want a terrorist situation or anything... but this is an awful lot of story only to find out there was just some mechanical error and families have been looming for twelve days only to get closure on this just being... mechanical error.

That is also what worries me. I don't fear planes because of how safe they are, and now the Boeing 777 has a problem in this flight and they probably couldn't do anything about it?

Anyway, I think I'm speaking way ahead here. There are still so many questions to answer even when we find the plane (assuming they are able to within the next week).

I hope that plane is in the ocean. I hope this is it. Please God let this be it. Just the speculation of it being "repurposed" is terrifying enough and I'm sure those *******s will look into it if they haven't already.

Yeah I hate to sound like a jerk, but those people on the flight are dead whether this was a terrorist attack of some kind or a mechanical failure. I would much rather have the plane in the bottom of the ocean then in some hangar with some ******* thinking of doing evil things.

With the information that so far has been released, there is nothing even remotely pointing to some sort of mechanical error or catastrophic failure.

Assuming the story doesn't change again for the 67th time by the time I post this of course..

Transponder was turned off deliberately, ACARS had its circuit breakers pulled 14 minutes after the transponder was turned off, a new destination was plotted into the computer prior to hitting Vietnam ATC jurisdiction, the plane made a 180ish degree turn 12 minutes before its last broadcasted message, and the plane continued to ping satellites and the engines continued to relay information back to the manufacturer for over 7 hours.

There is no plausible explanation for any of that to occur if this wasn't a deliberate, calculated plan pulled off by the pilots.

Of course, the story may have changed again in the last 5 mins.

                    Re: Missing Malaysian Plane

I typed that while talking to others and listening to this stuff on TV, so if you guys are confused about what I said, I haven't read it back yet.

If you're dumbfounded by me saying I hope the plane is safely on land, that's just me. I'd rather have a thought that those passengers are alive, even if it's some ridiculous Lost scenario. I certainly don't hope there will be some terrorist act of course, but beggers can't be choosers I suppose.

My other concern shouldn't really be a concern. This probably wasn't mechanical failure, given all that had been put out so far. Like I said, this thing is far from being resolved. One of my initial posts mentioned a United 93 style takedown by passengers. That is still a possibility.

Debris possibly found off the coast of Australia.

I'm sure tomorrow morning Malaysian authorities will be saying satellite imagery picked up the plane landing on Antartica.

The scary thing to me is, regardless of what happened with this flight, I'm sure terrorists have been taking notes the last two weeks.

So it may or may not have been found.

In other words, nothing conclusive and this press conference is pretty unnecessary.

The only thing they would learn is that you dont blow up a plane over the ocean since no one will have a clue where it is so you wont be able to really take credit for it.

Every major aviation disaster brings about new rules and regulations, this will be no different. I would bet my bank account that in 5 years pilots will not be able to turn off a transponder or any kind of locating device in the cockpit.

They won't be changing anything with the transponder or location equipment. The transponder can be turned off with a flick of switch in the cockpit because they regularly need to turn it off.

The other equipment really can only be turned off by removing fuses. The pilots need access to the fuses during flight in case something blows and they need to replace it in flight.

That our technology and safeguards aren't quite as sophisticated as we thought. Nearly two weeks after it disappeared, we're still not sure where it is or how it disappeared. Coordination among countries - especially early on - has been lacking.

Two weeks ago, I don't know how many people would have believed that a plane could just disappear in a post 9-11 world. But we've learned that it's possible.
