They had a plot in 2006 involving blowing up multiple airliners over the ocean.

Every major aviation disaster brings about new rules and regulations, this will be no different. I would bet my bank account that in 5 years pilots will not be able to turn off a transponder or any kind of locating device in the cockpit.

That's my thoughts. Now that everyone with a television or a newspaper knows that you can manually turn it off the transponder. I would hope they would implement a new regulation so terrorist don't get any ideas now that they know they can turn transponder off and basically disappear.

I agree that would make the most sense. When those passengers felt that hard left turn maybe they knew something was up and started planning. Who knows.

The scary thing to me is, regardless of what happened with this flight, I'm sure terrorists have been taking notes the last two weeks.
Just saw a report from a guy fresh off one of the scanning planes sent to check this out. All they found was a freighter and 2 pods of dolphins. The Australian radar images were a couple of days old so they are doing the math to see where the ocean could have carried it in that time if it was surface debris.

Side note. He mentioned that the plane he was on could detect something the size of a basketball floating on the surface. I think he said a 30 mile radar radius while cruising 300 feet over the ocean surface.

@AP: BREAKING: Australian officials say search for possible objects from missing plane ends for Thursday.

So we're back to square 1.

Sounds like a storm front really hindered this. 20 foot waves and heavy cloud cover.

Plus nightfall, if that matters. It's like 9:00 or 10:00 PM in those waters right now.

Not a deep sea guy. Been deep sea fishing 3 times and got sick last time I went and it was just 8-9 foot swells. I couldn't imagine 20. And like you said nightfall didn't help.

And yeah, when I read it on Twitter, it was so vague I just figured they went over there and found nothing and ended the search. On the radio I heard night time and bad weather stopped the search.

Hopefully that's the plane though it's tragic so many people had to die

It'll be interesting to see if they can recover the flight recorder.

People are acting like there is absolutely zero difference in color between that section of the photo and the other (in reference to the "oil"). Clearly there is. Whether someone thinks it's a school of fish, a camera playing tricks, or aliens is up to them.
I think "people" are saying that anyone and their mother can take a picture of the ocean and have no idea what they're looking at. "People" are acting like they look at thousands of miles of ocean on a regular basis and can say that this particular picture isn't normal. There are some here that clearly know about planes inside and out, know about search parties, satellites, etc, etc. These "people" you are mentioning probably feel the information being provided hold a bit more weight than a random photo of the ocean that you, me or Courtney Love took that happens to have some vague discoloring.

And bigbob, you need to chill and get off that high horse. Disagree to your heart's content but calm down on the insults of people that don't share your view of things.
