Re: Missing Malaysian Plane
I don't call Debby "Deb-BY," I call her "DEB-by."
I should have been emphatic myself in saying I was referring to the emphasis of syllables, and not the pronunciation itself.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Missing Malaysian Plane
^ If that is in response to my post, I pronounce it the same way. As I said though, I emphasize the last syllable, not the first.
Listen to Richard Quest (the guy I was referring to) at 1:30 in this video. I don't know of anyone who emphasizes the first syllable but him, unless that's just a part of the British accent.

Re: Missing Malaysian Plane
Right. Another reason they found the Air France flight so quickly is because, unlike MH370, it didn't deviate from its intended flight path and so it was pretty much where they predicted it would be based on last known position. Remember, they were initially looking for MH370 over the Gulf of Thailand and South China Sea for some days before they switched to searching the Indian Ocean. OSU's point about the Atlantic being calmer than the Indian is also valid since a calmer sea would probably mean more predictable currents and thus make it easier to extrapolate back from where a piece of debris was found to where it originated. Furthermore, a very strong cyclone was moving through the eastern Indian ocean in the days after the flight disappeared which would add to the surface turbulence. Because of these factors, iwhen/if they find a debris field associated with the plane, it may be extremely difficult to extrapolate the position of the field back to where it originated and determine exactly where the plane hit the water. If they can find where the plane hit the water, the depth of the ocean will also play a role in their ability to locate/retrieve the sunken wreckage.
And revis, I'm sorry but it's spelled debriSComment

Re: Missing Malaysian Plane
Humbling to say the least this situation is. With globalization making us all feel like the world is as big as our respective states, with regards to this plane, the sheer size of the search zone, and the realistic idea we may never find the plane is just crazy. World is big, with every piece of technology we have, we can't find this thing or even evidence of its existence at this point.Comment
