I find it unbelievable that people are getting this upset. This is a FREE site. These people are VOLUNTEERS. They do not get paid for this. They do this on their FREE time. Constantly monitoring and banning posters would take up more of their FREE time. Why is that so hard for some of you to understand?

I cant believe some of you have the nerve to actually complain and get this upset at these people who provide you with a website that is FREE. They are doing you a favor by just allowing you to visit this site. Some of you really do need to take a step back and get your priorities straight.

And for the people who are worried about having to start over and making new "friends" on another board. Why don't you create your own forum and invite everyone here that you know? You can talk about whatever you want, with whoever you want. Does that not solve your problem?

Or does that solution not work because it would require YOUR free time, money, and effort?

Complain about EE closing? That's expected.

Rip into the staff of the site? Act like they owe you or betrayed you or kicked your ****ing dog? That's where I start to have a problem with many of yesterday's posts.

Seriously, do you have nothing better to do? Every post you make in Steve's forum is with the sole intent of stirring up trouble.

It's amazing that you bitch about not being able to voice your opinion, but as soon as a member that doesn't post often offers his, you start throwing accusations around simply because his opinion differs from your's.

90% of the people who post on these boards either no longer visit or have forgotten that we have a frontpage. If the forum closed completely, that would not signal the end of OS. Remember, OS is bigger than your individual comfort zone.

Well, OS isn't part of my personal comfort zone, but whatever. I'm just saying that the entire reason to have a website is to provide some kind of service or information for people. Without that, there is no reason to even have one. It just so happens that one of the services OS provides is the ability for people to participate in forums. As such, you shouldn't expect that those same people won't have feelings or valid opinions about the operation of those forums.

I can guarantee you that if you did away with the forums entirely, your readership would take a huge hit. The forums, whether you choose to admit it or not, have become a trademark of OS (at least from the perspective of the participants).

I'm not here to argue about the EE forum. I have my opinion, but it's obviously not my call to make, nor is it that big of a deal to me. I just think a lot of the negativity yesterday was coming from the perceived attitude of "it's our site and that's how it is." The user base and how much traffic is generated is what makes a site succesful. Their opinions should be considered as valid and important as anyone. I'll get off my soapbox now.

You said for yourself that our decision will not effect you too much. Well, wouldn't you consider it pointless to post your opinions about it, especially considering it doesn't concern you?

Next time, don't speak on behalf of the entire OS community. We don't judge our members based on post count.

Here's another fun OS fact (as of this summer when i last checked before the big rollout with the new homepage, etc):


The main site gets more traffic than the forums do (this includes bandwidth and simultaneous users on at the same time).

Strange thing is, I can get the forums at work but not the front page. So when I go home, me lookin at the front page is forgotten.

Can you still access the forums without registering or signing in?
