Also, you are under rating Benteke. With less than zero service at Villa he was scoring around 15 goals per season. With the kind of service Arsenal could give him he'd outscore Giroud. Benteke is one of the most complete strikers in the league, crazy how many people sleep on him.
They both came into the league in the 12-13 season—in those three years Giroud has scored 11, 16, and 14 goals (41 total). Benteke has scored 19, 10, and 13 (42 total). In that time Giroud had 97 league appearances, Benteke had 88.

In putting those numbers together, I will admit that Benteke had scored a few more goals than I was aware of—however, is he that big of an upgrade on Giroud that £32m should be spent on him? I don't know, but I still lean towards no, and perhaps that makes me crazy.

In no way am I arguing that Arsenal can't afford to spend that kind of money, as we all know they can. But it should come to no surprise that Arsenal will not spend that kind of money on Benteke, especially considering Giroud cost £13m.

What am I even saying now?! I don't know. I just want the interlull to be over.

You have to put those stats into perspective though Kreb. Giroud has scored 41 in 97 while playing for Arsenal, Benteke has scored 42 in 88 while playing for Aston Villa. Not just any Aston Villa either, Lambert's Aston Villa.

Imagine if he had come to your team instead of Giroud, how many goals do you think a player like that could score with actual service?

I'm not sure we will get to see him at his best at Pool, because my personal opinion is that Rodgers is a dunce cap, but he'd be an absolute menace under a proper manager with proper service.

Well the "instead of" is a whole different discussion.

It was also just reported that the club knew Welbeck would be having surgery at least a week before the deadline.

        So...there's that.

The fact that happened and they still didn't buy is infuriating. And convient enough, he'll be back in January in time for Arsene to declare he is like a new signing... Sigh

I've come to the realization that Dick Law and Arsene and company don't understand the modern market today... Particularly with "elite" talent. Unless the guy you are buying is being moved out ie Alexis, Ozil, Cech, Pedro it's gonna be close to impossible to pay "market value" for players. Therefore if we really wanted to poach a core player that was still in the plans of PSG or Real Madrid's, we are gonna have to strongly alter our approach. I'm sure if went to Madrid with a £60-65 million offer for Benzema it would have been hard as hell for them to walk away from such an offer and we may have got our man. Shoot Madrid is €500 million in the hole in global debts, Test them with a top offer. I get we don't wanna screw up our structure and wage scale, but you have to do it for truly world class players. The fact that we have only spent over £20 million on single players 2 or 3 times in our history (I think Santi was just around that with bonuses to Malaga) shows that we can still compete, if we step out of character some. It's baffling and a credit to Arsene that we've stayed in the Champions League this long. Especially during 2008-2012. Hell, Liverpool paid over £20 million this summer on TWO separate players and there is no way that they that much more financially powerful than us. We don't have to spend crazy City money to win trophies to get where we want go and we can keep our commitment to our core ethos but break it when we have to.

Plus we will have to soon. With Chelsea updating the Bridge, Spurs new toilet bowl of a stadium, West Ham going to the Olympic stadium and the crazy TV money it's gonna get even more competitive now with the teams around and below us.

Benzema and Higuan have been rumored targets for how many years now? I mean if it hasn't happened already, it probably won't ever. Somehow I think there is more to it than just finding the right price for them to transfer.

Outside of those two, who else would be considered a reasonable target? And out of those guys, how many give a big improvement over what the club already has? I can understand if depth is needed, but that isn't really a problem right now.

So that leaves you with a handful of guys that might rotate and expected to get around 10 to 15 goals a season. How much money is reasonable to pay for someone like this?

I am not against the club paying big money for a forward, but they have to be able to score 20+ goals a season. It makes more sense to bring in a DM that either offers what Coq can't bring or someone who is another class higher than him.

First, great to pick up three points and see Walcott and Giroud both grab goals.

Second, amazing to see Gabriel put Arnautovic on his ***, (although he went down insanely easy after he initiated contact) as he injured Debuchy last year with his shove that went unpunished.

Thought Gabriel had a good game and but I am tired of seeing Ramsey on that right wing, it is a shame that Bellerin looks more dangerous from that side when he gets forward.

I'm pretty excited to see more of Kos + Gabriel going forward. I think they make quite a good pair.

Gabriel is skilled enough at this point, and is not afraid of physicality, nor does he seem willing to take **** from anyone.

Surprised Mark Hughes didn't pick a more defensive lineup, especially on the road. 3 points is 3 points, but I can't help but feel like we should have put 7 past them.

I think he realized fairly quickly that he made a mistake.

And we certainly should've scored more, but we're still a team who isn't in the best form, so more should still come.

3-1-1, and one incorrect call away from possibly being 4-0-1, so things are not too bad right now in the league.

I am amazed we didn't win that 4-0 or greater. But that was some top class goalkeeping from Butland. He saved their asses time and time again.
