I said it on the previous page, but I'd just look for your local small clubs, a lot of place have them, and it's cool cause all of your investment generally stays local. I know my support for Arsenal never mattered, and had it not been for Thierry Henry at the '98 World Cup, I'd never have been an Arsenal fan, so I think I've moved on to supporting players and local clubs more than any club in top level soccer.

It sucks is when your local club also makes non-ideal business decisions including who they choose to work with, have as their sponsor, etc.Last edited by Krebstar; 04-19-2021, 12:37 PM.Comment

Check out the Maryland Bobcats, not MLS, but have some really cool initiatives going on and have some sick kits

Yeah, I feel that, not sure where you are, but there's always youth soccer to support, at least in most communities. For the price of my past yearly purchases I did buy a bunch of kids new boots in 2019, so there's normally something if you look.Support Local Sports

Since moving to the Phoenix area, I've really taken to the local USL team Phoenix Rising. I also live 5 minutes from one of the youth fields. I've watched a lot of youth games since moving here. Some really good games too.

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
so I don't follow football but this story has totally caught my attention and find it extremely intriguing. what I don't understand (since I know nothing about the nuances & inner workings of the Premier League or European Leagues in general), why is this Super League a bad thing? and if they already have 12 clubs while looking for 3 more to be 15 permanent members (if I'm following that right) plus looking for 5 additional rotating spots in and out (is that right?), if most all of Europe is against this and talking bans, why does the Super League think 5 members are going to participate? sorry for the ton of questions, still have a ton more. like, what will happen to the Premier League, and its remaining members? like I said, I don't follow football but I find all this fascinating.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Nope, I’ll watch Liverpool however they play. Changes come and go. I’m sure this same outrage happened when the PL formed and when the “Champions” League made it so you didn’t actually have to be a champion to be in it.Comment

For the most part it is bad because it violates sporting integrity for money. The Champions League is basically what this Super League is replacing, and you get to the Champions League based on league placement, while this is just saying "these 15 teams and 5 friends can do it each year" with no sporting choices necessary.

So, if the Super League gets its way, basically nothing. Everything else would go on as normal, so the Big Six from England would continue to participate in the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, etc, and this competition would just replace the UEFA Champions League at the top of the European Game.

Honestly, the money is overwhelming. It's no secret that a lot of football clubs operate with debt, the current model of the Champions League generally allots ~100m per team, while this Super League, as currently financed is giving out around ~300m, and that's before any TV deals or anything.
So, if the Super League gets its way, basically nothing. Everything else would go on as normal, so the Big Six from England would continue to participate in the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, etc, and this competition would just replace the UEFA Champions League at the top of the European Game.

I was under the impression they would still be playing in the UCL/UEL as well.

This is devoid of any morals or principles. Really disappointing.Comment

Re: 2020-2021 English Football Thread
Yeah that was my initial interpretation. That it would run along side those. And these teams/players would be playing way too much. But after re-reading it does seem like its to replace. Like the formation of the PL.

Yeah, they're unhappy with the CL, so they've made "their own" in a way. Definitely not participating in any UEFA competitions while also "competing" in their private club.Comment
