If this doesn't go through, ESPN should be banned from talking about world football transfers on Twitter. Just stop lol. You don't understand how this **** works.

Re: The Transfer Thread
It seems like ESPN rarely publishes their own researched stories. They'll just link to whatever stories they can find.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
It's because they really don't care about soccer, they only report on it because it's so popular to the rest of the world.
ESPN regularly cites The Sun and The Mail as sources for stuff. I've even seen them source Tancredi and Indykalia.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
Which is ridiculous. If they tweeted out that LeBron James has reportedly agreed to a sign and trade to the Lakers, with this level of reporting, it would be a massive embarrassment.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
Either way, Neymar has put in so much work at Barca, and with Messi now getting older, Neymar is going to be the main man in the attack. Even if Messi makes the move everyone expects him to, and drops deeper into midfield as he gets older, Neymar will still be the focal point of the attack, so he won't really be in Messi's shadow.
They obviously have a great thing going, but it won't surprise me at all if Neymar decides to be the man elsewhere.
It'll certainly shake things up a bit if nothing else!

Hardcore soccer fans know how great Neymar is, but to most of the world, Messi is still the player they think of first when it comes to Barca and/or soccer in general.

Either way, Neymar being "the man" at another club won't change anything really. Most sources cite his desire to win the Ballon D'or as a reason for leaving, but it's not as if him being at a new club will magically change that. As long as Ronaldo and Messi are performing at their current level, nobody else is going to win anyway. Ribery was the best player in a team that won the treble and couldn't win it. Iniesta and Sneijder couldn't win it. Hell, Neymar has only made the top 3 once himself, it's not as if he's nipping at their heels.
If anything, he'd have a better chance staying at Barca, since Messi will devote more and more effort to being a playmaker as he gets older, which means an endless supply of assists for Neymar.
Something people sort of take for granted is the sheer number of chances Messi and Ronaldo can convert, which is what separates them from even phenomenal players like Neymar and Suarez. Both Neymar and Suarez miss a TON of chances that Messi basically puts on a plate for them.
Carlo once said that with Ronaldo in the team he felt like they started every match at 1-0, it's the same with Messi. Those two are pretty much always going to score. Neymar has yet to sustain that kind of goal threat for longer than a couple months so far in his career at Barca.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
Originally posted by MoUm, no, its pretty much the opposite. They have a daily show dedicated to soccer. Year round.
This isnt the NHL, they actually do give a ****
ESPN has one daily soccer show, with arguably their worst soccer analysts (not that I don't love me some Shaka), and as has already been pointed out, they regularly report on completely Bs news because they can't be bothered to check sources. I'll give them a bit of credit and say ESPN FC is definitely better than the website reporting, and their coverage of international tournaments is fantastic, but the day to day soccer stuff at the club level is not something they really care THAT much about.
"Pretty much the opposite" would be what NBC does.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
Looks like other places are "reporting" on the Neymar thing now. But most places are saying PSG is interested in holding talks. But Barca has no interest as they say the player doesn't want to move. Sounds like a bunch of nonsense that no one should even be "reporting" on.

Re: The Transfer Thread
Some seriously reliable sources are starting to pick up on the Neymar business, there might actually be something to this.
Still think it's silly, as the main reason being thrown around is he wants to win the Ballon D'or, although it's also being said he wants to try branching out on his own and seeing if he can lead a team himself, which I guess I can understand.
If anything though, this transfer will possibly make it even harder for him to win. Barca will take half that money and get Dembele, who is more of a traditional playmaker than Neymar is, which means Messi is going to be scoring lots of goals again.
Also, this transfer plus the Morata transfer will likely end any fun in Ligue 1. With all this money coming in and large wages going out, I can't really see RM NOT going in for Mbappe.
What a crazy summer and it's only mid-July.Comment

Not giving a **** and not really caring are two different things though.

Re: The Transfer Thread
ESPN FC is easily my favorite show on ESPN, but yeah it doesn't come close to how they cover other sports. And that is partially why I like it. It's more of a loose opinion show, with a lot of rumors given equal time to legit reporting. 4 years ago they didn't have a daily soccer show, so I guess it's an improvement on that lol.
Actually, BeIn and ESPN shows are quite similar. You've got the likable one (Vieri and Shaka), the knowledgeable ex-player who is decent but clearly biased towards his old team and possibly still stuck in the past (Nicol and Bailey), the presenter who you can't really say anything bad about but slightly bland (Murray and Thomas), and then the dude who adds absolutely nothing, is obnoxious, and is generally baffling they haven't been replaced yet (Moreno and Schoen).Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
Yeah I definitely watch it, it's good entertainment if nothing else, similar to the BeIn version. A lot of the stuff they talk about are rumors that have already been de-bunked several times online, but still entertaining to watch. One of those things that sort of grows on you after a while. Some of the Fox guys back in the day even grew on me, Love me some Rob Stone.

Who is the ESPN FC equivalent of Ray Hudson tho? Lol.
I actually like Wynalda and Lalas on Fox, but I think that's just because being a soccer fan in the US I tend to enjoy whatever major soccer conversation/coverage that I get.Comment
