It was even MORE limited before the improvements in 16. Think about that for a second.

In 16 they..

Added budgets
Got a realistic progression system
Call ups and send downs to the minors based on play
MUCH improved trade logic
MUCH improved free agency logic.
Tuned Sim stats

Before this year, these things were almost completely absent from the game. This is why I'm not too optimistic about the current direction of Madden CFM

That's just the reality. I don't think it's good or bad. It just is what it is. AP2K8 was way better than Madden 08,09, 10 and 11. Me and my little brother in Orlando played it online up until they cut the servers in 2012, IIRC. We played that game religiously. I had like 3 different teams. Marino had that lightening delivery. It was awesome having that chess match with our different teams and is why it had the longevity it had with us. We were still building teams to combat each other until the end. He had a team with Reggie White. If I didn't have a good tackle I was getting sacked all game. Evidently though the market didnt agree. So i accept that. Based on gameplay alone, imo, it should have done much better than it did. It didnt. So you move on. Madden, for better or worse, is all we got. The improvements are there. We can at least get a game in here or there. Before that wasnt possible because it was essentially last team with the ball wins. That's no fun. Like you and many others I still have major issues with the game and some design decisions. I will give it a fair shake, though. Enjoy what I can then move on. There are a lot of good games on the slate for me thes last few months anyway. But all I want is continued improvement. It not as fast as I'd like but I'll take it.

They can tune it until the cows come home, it still won't match APF due to the lack of animations and interactions, at least with the pass play blocking/interactions.

I don't need to play Madden 17 to know it's still behind APF in certain areas, the footage is enough, but that's not a shot at Madden or Tiburon, that's just the truth. They haven't gotten there yet. Doesn't mean I won't enjoy 17, because I damn sure enjoyed 16.

Also Kolbe has now departed from Tiburon as well....

If CFM was up to par with the Madden franchise modes on PS2, I'd buy it in an instant. As much as they say they're going to put time into franchise, it just seems like what they think is a deep experience, isn't what most hardcore franchise guys want.

Sure, we had a ticker and practice squads now(Along with player editing). What about formation subs? What about a progression system that doesn't use RPG elements? That right there completely turns me off from the mode as a whole.

No disrespect to EA or Kolbe, but I don't think he's the answer for CFM. When he worked on the MLB The Show franchise mode, it was met with mixed reviews. With MLB The Show 16 (The first year he didn't work on franchise) It's the BEST it's ever been.

I don't know. Madden can say they care about the CFM crowd, but it's certainly no where near the top of their list. There's no immersion as of right now. Hopefully the new commentary engine and ticker will help that, but outside of that what do we have?

Hopefully they really give us CFM guys something groundbreaking for 18 or it'll be another disappointing year for us
Agree with all of this except the bold. I don't think its fair to blame any individual person when we really don't know what he is working with or against and what his mandates are.

The most troubling thing is that year IS the "focus on franchise mode" year. We all had some really high hopes and I think that what we got was, in a way, worse than nothing because it shows we are worlds apart in terms of vision for the mode.

Sage just let me know Kolbe is no longer with Tiburon, so let's see where they go from here.

Also, if THIS year is the year for the focus to franchise mode...

That PAINS me. It makes me believe they're either being handcuffed by some higher ups, they can't give what we want or they just don't care. Either way it's extremely disheartening.

If they really believe a ticker, a faux practice squad and player editing is everything we've been clamoring for, I'm not sure what else to say

It's not a good thing imo when a game would have everything you wanted and you still wouldn't support it if it released. That's the only part of your post I didn't really understand. I don't play APF anymore either, played it too much, but if there was a game that captured that on this current generation, sign me up. I enjoy Madden as of late, it definitely can hold my attention nowadays, but it's still missing some elements to take it to that next level.....

The thing for me is perspective. I love, LOVED, AP2K8. But it's gone now. And the chances of a fully featured football game on current gen are slim. Unless its NCAA which isn't exclusive anymore if I remember correctly. But that's another bag of worms in itself. On top of who'd put the money and resources up make it. EA is probably the only ones capable at this point. It's EA or bust everywhere you look. I'm an NFL fan more than a football fan. I just am. I need the packers and Steelers. Im a franchise nerd so I want all the elements you speak of in an NFL game. I wouldn't touch HEAD COACH if the teams were fictitious. I want to win the Atlanta Falcons a Super Bowl; not the Red Birds. That's where my enjoyment and replay value comes from. Not just outstanding on field gameplay. Although I want that too. The best chances of getting that, again IMO, is to ride (even slowly) with Madden and hope they continue going in the same direction.
