They are not running 40 yard dashes the entire game....You prepare for the 40 yard dash...football= natural speed not 40 yard dashes...

yeap, this is why people should stop talking about how they run 40 yard dashes.

Game is not at 100 full speed, actually most of the game is not even at 100 speed.
This is why real games are not as fast as the very fast setting.
LB blitzing... OL going back.. WR making cuts... QB droping or moving on the pocket..

Well nobody knows for sure how it was measured so asking for proof is kind of silly. It's really impossible to prove either way. Either way though, most ways of figuring out what his time is would have his actual 40 yard time around 4.1-4.4, which would convert to 3.9-4.2 seconds due to the way they time it at the NFL Combine. No matter what, he's still blazingly fast, and would probably record the fastest 40 yard time in NFL Combine history.

Re: Speed Threshold Talk!!!!!!!!

i agree the the 40 is not the end all be all answer. at the same time what do we have to base the game speed off of besides 40 times? im not trying to match 40 times. not even looking at there 40 times from the combine or pro days. just trying to get the players to run a speed close to what they would do on a field. i know that with out training for the 40, hester would run faster than 5.2 in pads and on grass (5.2 is on slow) and i guess its just me, but that is not realistic.
i also use the 40 to compare the extremes. the slow are all to slow on each setting at 50 treshold. i know everyone is talking about seperation. we have been spoiled before the threshold. i know that im going back to the 40 times again but oh well. madden on ps2 and xbox, a guy with 99sp and acc would run the 40 in 4.02 secs. while the slowest guy in the game would run a 40 in over 6.5 sec. we got use to the fast blowing by players becuase there was such a differnce. instead of being 60+ points of speed differnce between each player, there should of only been around 40. there shouldnt be much more than a 1.50 sec differnce between the fastest and the slowest.
and running test that i have to get a 1.5 differnce. 70 seems to work but nothing more than 75.

No one with any sense thinks his 40 yard split with a reaction to the gun his 4.1 seconds. That's rediculous. I have stated earlier that it was SCIENTIFICALLY determined that Ben Johnson's split through 40 yards was 4.6 when he ran his wr time that would have stood all the way up to last year. Bolt and Johnson are two completely with different runners with different strengths. Johnson exploded out of the blocks, a fast accelerator; while Bolt wins because of his ability to decelerate slower and his huge strides, taking 2-3 less steps than even the elite sprinters, but he is not known for great acceleration.

You would have to take Bolt's slow reaction time off of his 40 time though because the NFL tries to start it when he starts, so there is no reaction time. And most of the time in the NFL, they start the time a little bit late so what might actually be a 4.2 or 4.3 would end up being a 4.1 or 4.2

Re: Speed Threshold Talk!!!!!!!!

I can't believe people are actually trying to get real 40 times on the video game.

I realize that, but this all started when one poster claimed that Bolt's 40 yard split was under 4 seconds in his recent world record run. Using both my background in football and track, I would estimate Bolt to run about 4.25 under combine circumstances.
