Yesterday, the Yankees were informed by the Braves that a deal for infielder Wilson Betemit wouldn't get done unless the Yankees included Proctor. Unwilling to remove Proctor from their bullpen, the Yankees run the risk of watching the switch-hitting Betemit, a player many evaluators say has a bright future and one who could help bolster the Yankees' lineup, land elsewhere.

Ahh. A lot of missed opps in this game. 1st inning and 3rd inning come to mind with 2 on and no out both innings. Down 6-1. This is all but over barring a huge comeback that I don't see happening.

Come on offense. Let's get an 8th inning rally going here.

Jason Shiell sucks. We have to have a better option than him.

Pathetic. We're having golden opportunities to move up in the standings and we're not taking them.

Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Eh, with Shiell starting I fully expected a loss today...

EDIT: According to a couple things I've read, the Yankees actually turned down Betemit-for-Proctor. I can't believe we would even be willing to make that offer... thanks for turning it down, Cashman.

Also San Diego supposedy turned down Betemit-for-Linebrink...

Obviously things can change between now and the deadline, but that's what's going around today.

Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Then there's this...

Quote:
Trade winds a blowin': While the Braves have had a few conversations with the Nationals about Alfonso Soriano, multiple team sources have said it doesn't appear the power-hitting Soriano will be coming to Atlanta. He'll be a free agent at the end of the year and the Braves don't feel they'd be able to re-sign him.

There have been numerous sources who have indicated they believe Wilson Betemit will be dealt to the Yankees for right-handed reliever Scott Proctor. But both the Braves and Yankees have legitimate concerns in regards to this deal.

With Jones still not completely healthy, the Braves are hesitant to move Betemit, who, after some years of struggle, has proven to be one of the game's top young talents. As for the Yankees, Kyle Farnsworth's ongoing back problems -- something he battled in Atlanta last year -- make them hesitant to move Proctor.

But the overwhelming belief among sources from around the league indicate this is the most likely deal the Braves will make before Monday's non-waiver trade deadline.
