Re: National League Divisional Series - Padres vs Dodgers

I didn’t realize so many people cared who had the best record in the regular season. Obviously the Dodgers were a good team but that’s why they play the games.

Why do they play the 162 games then?

So that the season plus the playoffs are crowned champion. Wouldn't you agree that the other 18 teams vying for a playoff spot need to play it (162 games) too? Or, how about the East Division. You don't think season meant nothing to Braves and Mets eventual matchups?

Baseball is not suppose to be fair. It's maddening, cruel and tears at your heart like no other sport really does. 101 wins and my aces didn't show up and we also beat philly 15 0ut of 19 times but!?!?@??! LA beat SD how many times in the season?

Edit: Wow, after reading my answer above I can tell I'm still salty with an all-timer here. Bare with me. Baseball Season Therapy takes longer than usual for me.

Why have playoffs then? We can just be like soccer where they don't have a playoff to determine the champion.

Obviously we're both being extreme, I just think it's strange people act like these short series prove more about each team than the 162 game long seasons did where some of these teams faced off 19 times against one another.

In no world do I believe the Padres are the better team than the Dodgers, but in the playoffs anything can happen, and that's been a saying for a very long time, because anyone who follows baseball knows that the sport is extremely random and in a short series any team can take it.

You could take the worst team from each league and throw them into the playoffs and they'd have realistic odds to take a series against any other team at least 1/3 of the time.

I just come from a side that does not like the playoff expansion. I really don't like the new format. I get why it may be good from an entertainment standpoint, I just think that you play 162 games for a reason, so I'd prefer to see us go back to a format where only 4 teams from each league makes it in.

You're kind of proving my point, though. LA was how good against SD during the year? But in a short series anything can happen. In every sport I want smaller playoffs and I want the regular season success to have more weight. It's why I don't really like playoff expansion in any sport from college to pros. I want winning your league/division to mean something, but the more you expand the playoffs and have teams play these short series, the less the regular season matters.

This is how it should be, but MLB will never turn down all that playoff money.

Re: National League Divisional Series - Padres vs Dodgers

If we're going to have longer playoffs, then at least give me a shorter regular season. Make it so every team gets an off day a week; start the season later in April so we're not playing games in snow; and finish the season in September so we're not playing World Series games after Halloween.
