Re: Is Donovan McNabb a Hall of Famer?

It amazes me how people bring in team accomplishment in individual awards. Last year CJ2K in many people minds couldn't be MVP because his team didnt make the playoffs. MVP is an individual award your own personal award.

If McNabb had little to no postseason success then that would make sense ,but he has been very successful in post season play. Only one team a year can win and it's just as much about being lucky as it is about being good.

As for the Kurt Warner debate, his best 6 seasons of football easily trump McNabb's best 6; it's not even close. Warner was a dominant player. For 3 years with the Rams and 3 years with the Cardinals, you could easily say Warner was a top QB in the league, not 2nd tier.

I don't think Warner is a hall of famer either though because he really only played 6 or 7 full seasons. He was benched a couple times and passed over at other times. Even though he had some incredible seasons and incredible playoff moments, I just think the lack of longevity will hurt him.

you can't be a hall of famer if your coach is willing to bench you for a player who is 100% known to be an inferior player, and defends his decision.

So by your logic Marcus Allen has no business in the HOF, as he was frequently benched for inferior talents. Obviously there is more to that story, but the same can be said for Warner's situations.

HOF level QBs either win titles, set records, or revolutionized the game. McNabb has done none of the above, as such he is not a HOF QB.

I think there's definite separation between Warner and McNabb, though maybe not a huge amount.
He also has had maybe the most talented Receiving core in the history one year and two top ten WR's the next. I have no doubt Mc5 would have done just as well if not better with that line up. Trent Dilfer won a SB not because he is a HOF'er but because everything went right.

Once again HOF status is an individual award SB's are team awards. SB wins shouldnt even be in the discussion in my opinion.

for clarity, who was marcus allen benched for?

and warner wasn't benched for inferior talent. eli manning was their high-priced first round draft pick who was supposed to save the franchise, so it was his job to have anyway.

And in those 6years his talent level offensively far exceed Mc5's.

That's fine, but will there be a disclaimer on McNabb's hall of fame plaque: "McNabb was a great QB with slightly above average numbers. With more talent around him, he would be a surefire hall of famer. But he had average numbers, so we put him in anyway."

You're either great or you're not. I don't view him as great.
