NBA 2K14 News Post

We have just posted NBA 2K14 player ratings for every NBA player currently in the game. We will have the player ratings for the Euroleague and Classic teams later today.

Player ratings will fluctuate based off of performance via Dynamic Living Rosters. They will be completely dependent on real-life performances.

Dynamic Living Rosters will affect individual ratings (shot attributes, block, steal, rebound, etc.) daily based on performance.

FYI: These ratings were grabbed from the September 20th roster update.

I agree! I am so excited to play as Datome. Not sure he is a SG in the NBA (from what I've seen via YouTube clips at least), but what a weapon he will be as a 3 (or perhaps stretch 4) off the bench. Looks a high IQ player. He better be there in the day 1 roster update, but I'm annoyed I'll have to wait a month after release!!!

Man does 2k ever dump all over young centers!

Also, Is oladipo the first rookie in 2k history to be the highest rated player on his team out of the box?

Lance Stephenson- 74 OVR

Orlando Johnson- 71 OVR

Lance Stephenson started the whole season and played really well, while OJ barely played all year. So how is Lance ONLY 4 OVR points higher? I dont get it

Austin Rivers was statistically one of the worst rookies ever and he keeps his 71 rating. Dock and let him earn it back this season.

Players who barely played got 1/2 point increases but Granger got docked 4 points. ok 2k

Jamal crawford...where do I begin. So overrated. 4th sig? Really? How can you give guys like crawford and jerrd bayless the pick dodger and not give it to Ray Allen? The OG of running off screens?

2k loves to overrate JR Smith and Shumpert (Ronnie's bff)

Monte Ellis at 85 is overrated. As is Iguodala at 85 and Rudy Gay at 86. Rudy is especially troubling because he was HORRIBLE last year. 2k rewards him by giving him a comparable rating and additional signature skills. Crazy.

Manu Ginobili is still a 86....must be some spurs fans up there at 2k.
DEAD on.

These are a huge letdown. Pandering to the big-market teams with upgrades and totally haphazard downgrades.

I know it's easy to nitpick ratings but jeez.

I cannot figure out the justification for Gordon Hayward's rating. I know it's a small market team, but he practically was their do it all guy. HE matched up against the opposing teams best players. Ran the offense. He was a clutch scorer. He had some amazing defensive playmaking chase downs. I mean were talking about one of the most impressive players at team usa camp this offseason. He gets a 69... (not a 70 cause it was changed to a 70 by some in-game variable). Is it like racism or something? I know he is not as athletic as some swingmen, but they have made him into a kyle korver like player. It's garbage. I hate to vent, but year after year they get this wrong. Not to mention, last year he had the worst face!

That Gordon Hayward rating sickens me. He is one of the more talented players in the league. He's a solid playmaker with the ball and off the ball. Also he is very defensively sound. I got him at 84.
Klay Thompson is better than a 73. He is defensively underrated.

Jamal and Jordan Crawford are overrated especially Jordan C. Blake Griffin should be an 82 because he has the same overall as Al Jefferson who arguably has the best post game in the league and is a good low post defender. Then they gave Blake Post Proficiency......
Bosh I way better than Blake. 2k always hates on Bosh.

The Pacers got hated on again. They are definitely not rated like the 2nd best team in the east.
Austin Rivers 71 LOL.
Nikola Pekovic should be like 82 b/c he avg 17 & 9 last season. Dude is a force in the paint.

Also Kobe played one of his best statistical seasons of his career last year and his rating is lower than it was last year. 27ppg, 6reb & 6ast 47% FG doesn't get you a 95? KD avg 28ppg 8reb 4.6ast 51% aka "the second best player in the nba" If Kobe and KD are 93 and 94 then Lebron should be 97. He's better but not that much better.

Make Durant 6'11 please. I think Paul George is 6'10 also. I think 2k has a height and weight limit that determines how they dribble and they move or run. Durant and Paul George exceed that for their positions. In past games they both move & run like big men. Same for Rudy Gay and other SFs. Only Lebron moves and dribbles like a skilled perimeter player at the SF position in the game.

All the complaining , people seem to forget that 2k will be updating the rosters at launch. Stop bursting blood vessels over sigs and overall ratings.

2K has been doing in-season adjustments for four or five years, and most of the time the in-season updates are done with even less forethought than the off-season adjustments, and they end up making the ratings worse.

These ratings show extremely lazy work in this department by Visual Concepts. I almost always find myself defending this game from critics in many other areas, but this is one area where they consistently disappoint.

STATs is supposed to be redoing the ratings/tends on Day1, so with that I gots to wait until after Day1 to pass judgement.

Al Jefferson being rated over Roy Hibbert,Marc Gasol,Brook Lopez and Greg Monroe is a travesty.

He even puts up similar, or better, numbers in far less minutes and in an offense that is about shot distribution. 2K just ****s on him yearly, even when he's the bonafide third or fourth best player at his position.

Rashidi (Real 2K Insider) just broke it down on his blog:

Yeah, who in their right mind believes Chauncey Billups is still a starting caliber point guard? 2K Sports, that's who. Yes, Deron Williams and Jrue Holiday are both better than Tony Parker, while Eric Bledsoe is only 4 points below him!!!!!!!!
It doesn't seem that Parker's really being underrated as much as others are being massively overrated.

Is Ginobli really higher rated than Parker? That's crazy. Ginobli is a shell of himself.

Anyway, agree on the massive overrating of everyone you mentioned outside of Curry. Holiday an 88, really? I'd also be fine with Steph dropping a few points as long as he's as deadly as he is in real life. In fact I think his perimeter D needs to be dropped to a C or a C+ level. It's ridiculous that Steph has a B rating while Klay, our best perimeter D guy last year has a C and is the worst of all our wings. Come on 2K. The Warriors are your local team. Does no one in the office know their roster (or what Steph's jumpshot looks like for that matter)?

Parker's defense is pretty mediocre though. That justifiably hurts his overall.

Question is, does Stats give new ratings or just modify existing ratings based in streaks? If its the latter, overrated players will still stay overrated even after a drop.

Also, if they are only modifying streaks, certain harder to measure stats like perimeter D, athleticism, and defensive/offensive awareness may not get updated.

I'm not a Gordon fan or anything but he is way better than a 69. Not an 84, but both he and Klay Thompson should be a mid to high 70's. Bazemore only being 3 points lower than Klay is crazy.

85 isn't overrated for Iggy because he IS above average in just about everything with elite perimeter D and still has high athleticism which tends to boost overalls.

This is what I was wondering. It is just going to be fluctuating based off the current ratings or will it create new ratings all together based purely on stats?

So mad bench players on the Spurs are sub-65... but Tracy McGrady who retired and couldn't sniff the floor with them in the playoffs last season is rated a 72. Ummm... okay.

Umm Jeff Taylor should be rated higher
MKG should be lower
Neal should be a spot up shooter
AND WHY IN THE WORLD IS LeBRON an A outside shooter and Ray Allen is a B
Don't get me started on the FA ratings

LeBron shot better overall than Ray Allen. Is Allen a better shooter from a career yes. But Allen struggled in deep two's for two years in a row. Also Ray Allen shoots almost all of his shots are assisted. He is a great shooter. I bet he has a few cold zones in the deep two range that are messing up his ratings.

10-15 ft 16-23ft 3pt jumpers
LeBron 41% 46% 41% 43%
Allen 46% 33% 42% 42%
