Madden NFL 17 News Post


Madden NFL 17 patch 1.03 is available now, weighing in at 4.8 GB on PlayStation 4 and 368 MB on Xbox One.

You do not need to reset online or offline franchises in order for this patch to affect them. We have posted some of the details below, official patch notes will be posted as soon as we get them.

UPDATE: Here are the official Madden NFL 17 patch notes:
  • Fixed a gameplay issue where the player on defense could tell if the opponent was going to run or pass
  • Client-side fix for the bug where you could see ratings of the upcoming draft class prior to the draft (server fix already applied to Cloud Franchises)
  • Reduce the amount of strip-tackle attempts made by the CPU
  • Fixed a major desync which was happening when a user went from Skills Trainer to Online (happened fairly often after the new-user flow)
  • No passing icons on PA, Force defender tuning, nano detection system tuning, users not getting stamina penalty when meter depleted
  • Force defenders not dropping back vs. run when in zone coverage; Play Action desync; Fumble frequency in MUT solos.
  • Lots of high priority gameplay fixes that includes:
    • Stripping the Ball from behind the ball carrier is overpowered - We found a bug where the defender was getting multiple rolls at causing a fumble per animation
    • Occasionally on Play-Action passes, the user would be unable to throw the ball
    • Play-Action Pass Desync Online Head to Head Desync
    • MUT Online - Fixed an issue with Cowboys uniforms that could result in a 'white on white' situation
    • Acquisitions Screen showing rookie/free agent ratings before the draft - fixed
    • Fixed a crash that would occur in the Guantlet after making an interception in the Big Man Rumble challenge
    • Occasionally, users were triggering 'Nano Detection' when successfully using the 'Off the Line Mechanic' on RT as a pass rusher
    • Occasionally, users would lose all pre-play functionality when selecting a defensive linemen while breaking the huddle
    • Occasionally, user would see defensive plays disappear in the playbook screen after selecting an audible during the previous play
    • Fumbles occurring too frequently in MUT solos where the CPU-controlled team started with the lead
    • Force Players will be better at containing the edge once they get engaged
    • Force player will be faster in breaking out of Read and React and into Force
    • Cover 1 plays were sometimes not aligning to Trips formations correctly
    • Occasionally, offensive linemen would run to the end zone and not block when running no huddle repeatedly in Draft Champions.
    • When Force players on the playside of any non-counter runs had a zone coverage assignment, they would drop back into coverage at the snap - this has been fixed
    • Fixed a Crash in Franchise mode that would sometimes occur in Franchise mode Practice during goal completion

It happened plenty in 16. I don't think it happens any more often in 17 than it did in 16

Russell Wilson is absolutely killing me. He is scrambling around in the pocket, throwing off his back foot, throwing on the Run, throwing away from his dominant hand. It's almost like I'm watching him on Sunday

Since it explicitly states that this update doesn't require restarting your CFM, does that mean the next major patch might? Or has EA found a way to not require restarting?

anyone else notice the game would tell you a player was injured before the player on the field would act it out
i always thought it would be best to see the player injured then report it

I don't know about you guys but after this patch players seem to run a lot more fluidly. I was able to get Tavon Austin on end arounds and he would just burn the corners. Probably one of the best and most fun game I've played. Loving the patch. Russell Wilson was so active in the pocket and outside. If he rolled out I had to bring a linebacker up to contain him to prevent him from running and he would toss it to the guy my linebacker left him for.

This is a Superstar Dev QB who was chosen 10th overall in the 2017 Draft. He's 80 OVR, has a Balanced Style, good Throw on Run, etc. Not listed as a scrambler.

Conservative Forcing Passes
Predictable Player
Balanced Penalty Bias

So, the two QB's I've faced post-patch aren't really scramblers, but were moving in the pocket, which is great. Whatever it was that seemed to stop QB's from scrambling or moving around post-snap is fixed for me. I'm looking forward to facing an actual scrambling QB to see what happens, because I still haven't seen a QB run past the LoS yet.

Well, DL the patch, Rebooted and then noticed quickly another patch was added, it was play call Adjustment patch. Anyone else notice this ? Then I went to see if any Tuning patch had been DL.. Looked in my DL section and I don't show any at all. No tuning file.

It had definitely made a difference but I don't know if I like it. Played three CPU vs CPU games. Three different teams against my Browns.. Never noticed any scrambles, Did notice more sacks, Running game didn't seem to change, In all three games each team had over 75 yds rushing at the half. Not one screen pass was called by any team.. Mostly over the middle passes, it was always 3rd and long and most passes attempted were for 20 yds or more, It did seem to tone down the long vertical pass a little.. BUT THE BIGGEST CHANGE WAS BLOCKS.. In my first game against the PACKERS. I blocked two of there punts and two field goals, they blocked 1 punt and a FG against me. In my 2nd game, there were three blks all together and two in my third but only played a half, was disgusted. Now it's back to the drawing board and try to redo the sliders.. It's becoming a never ending quest.

This game would be so much better if EA simply let you use Customs game plans for the CPU. Yes I know there is a way around it, but it is a pain and I don't want another e-mail address just to make a second profile.

This was cpu Cam Newton against me before the patch. I for one will be very happy if the patch fixed this.

Wow, I never saw anything like that.

My variety of wackiness involved the CPU rolling out of the pocket, running to the LOS, then running parallel to the LOS until he ran out of bounds.

Makes you wonder how/why in the world different users see so many different things.

So they didn't fix where the left cornerback will often press with no help over the top resulting in easy TD's.

Could just be the way people describe it. Some people might call a play scrambling out of the pocket, while others say the qb just moved outside the tackles. Their isn't many videos being shown so you kinda just have to rely on what others say they have seen.

Considering that the patch notes don't mention fixing qb scrambling decisions. I don't think anything has changed.

That's not really a bug, just the product of EA's terrible playbooks. With custom playbooks, you can solve the issue, but it introduces a host of other problems.

Really love the tweak to force defenders on the outside. Fixed outside runs but didn't nerf them

Update feels good so far. Was shocked to see the patch notes when I started the game like that. Good job with the steady improvements EA.

My one minor requesr right now would be could we pleaseeee get that CFM player caed available during the game? Scrolling through the depth chart trying to compare ratings of offense vs defense is more of a hassle than it needs to be right now. Leting us get the CFM visual depth chart in game would be clutch too.

Loving the game right now tho. Actually keeping me off the BF1 beta to try out this patch.

Unfortunately, this doesn't include a fix for when a defender would stop running after intercepting the ball even if said player wasn't tackled. I guess I'll post my two clips of these instances happening.

Well they need to fix the traits, in real life it's rare that Qb's just stand in the pocket and take sacks, they at least try to escape the pressure or escape the pocket. People need to stop making excuses for bad gameplay.

Does this patch help with the kicking stats. My game will show up 2/2, but when I end my game it says 0/0 on my stats page.

Does anyone else have the problem when playing career mode as a player the difficulty stays on pro no matter what the league settings are. But a career as coach or owner the difficulty does change
