Game Notes
Week 7 brings the Rams a chance to avenge their first loss of the season as the Arizona Cardinals come to town. The Cards are struggling at 2-4 and dropping to 2-5 could bury their 2018 playoff hopes. But wounded animals are dangerous, and this team has already proven it can take down the Rams.

Re: California Dreamin'

Blanking Arizona

As the Arizona Cardinals learned, it’s hard to score points when your quarterback throws 5 interceptions. With Carson Palmer having one of the worst games of his career, it was relatively easy for the Los Angeles Rams’ defense to conclude a second consecutive game without having allowed the opponent to find the end zone. This time it resulted in the team recording its first shutout since 2014, when The Rams blanked the Raiders and the Redskins in Weeks 13 and 14. And it was fortunate that such defensive dominance came on a day when LA’s offense sputtered, if it can be said that an offense that scored 29 of the 31 points by which the Rams beat the scoreless Cardinals “sputtered”. The Arizona defense turned in an admirable effort despite Palmer literally throwing the game away. Todd Gurley was held to a mere 44 yards on 16 carries, and the sizzling Jared Goff was rendered merely average with an 84.5 rating as he threw for 250 yards and one touchdown, which was LA’s only red zone TD in six trips. In addition to pitching the shutout, the LA defense contributed to the scoring with Michael Brockers sacking Palmer for a safety.

The Rams now head into their bye week, after which they will be paid a visit by one of the top teams in the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Do The Browns Finally Have Their Man?

Since recovering from the injury that caused him to miss an opening day NFL debut, Cleveland Browns rookie QB Josh Allen has established a passer rating 137.0, 13 points higher than league leader Alex Smith. Whether that number will be so lofty after he has enough attempts to qualify for the leaderboard remains to be seen, but it’s still a very promising start for a franchise that has suffered through a stupefying succession of flops under center.

Watson To Start For Cards vs. Panthers

Is Arizona’s Deshaun Watson era about to begin, or is Carson Palmer just getting a disciplinary sit-down? It’s not clear yet, and may depend on how Watson fares in his start at Carolina this Sunday. While the absence of David Johnson has hurt the Cardinals, it’s also been true that Palmer, who leads the league in picks thrown after tossing 5 to the Rams, has had difficulty adjusting to life without Larry Fitzgerald. In 7 games, Arizona has scored fewer than 20 points five times. With his Cards foundering at 2-5 and likely headed for retirement after this season, Bruce Arians really doesn’t have anything to lose in taking Watson for a test drive. In limited action as rookie (39 attempts), Watson completed 58% of his passes for 254 yard, 4 TD, and one INT for a rating of 101.8.

Darnold Injury Forces Ravens Back To Flacco

John Harbaugh’s decision to suffer through the growing pains of a rookie quarterback made Joe Flacco the most overpaid backup in NFL history, but in the wake of a torn quad suffered by 2017 Heisman Trophy winner Sam Darnold, Flacco will resume actually working for his bloated paycheck. Darnold’s injury is expected to cost him almost half of his rookie season, but he’ll now have the opportunity to review what has to date been an uneven rookie campaign. In his 7 starts, Darnold has compiled an 82.3 passer rating while completing 136 out of 223 throws (60%) for 1,637 yards (234 per game) for 8 TD’s and 7 INT. Flacco’s 2017 rating was 76.4.

Kelce Cleared

Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs are getting tight end Travis Kelce back after a two-game absence that included KC’s only loss of the season thus far. While Kelce was away, no. 2 tight end Demetrius Harris caught only 3 passes for 30 yards.

At least the Giants managed to beat the Iggles, but 1-6...ugh. 7 sacks too, looks like things are still true to life with our weak O-Line.

Good luck keeping up the momentum LA's got in the first half of the season. The NFC has still got some tough competition all around this season.

Our season is about to get tougher, when you consider that we've only played one team with a winning record. KC is next and later the rest of the AFC West, plus all of the NFC North except Detroit, and a Week 17 game with Philly.
