Re: California Dreamin'
Since the Seattle Seahawks joined the NFC West in 2002, the have been swept by the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams only once, back in 2004. When Todd Gurley burst into the end zone from 6 yards out to give the LA a 10-0 lead over Seattle in the first minute of the second quarter, it appeared as if the Rams could be on the way to their second-ever sweep of the the Seahawks, and their first of a Pete Carroll-coached team. But with a last-second 52 yard field goal by Steven Hauschka, the Hawks took the Rams’ broom and stuck it where the sun don’t shine. After the Rams drew first blood with a 48 yard boot by Greg Zuerlein, they held a lead until a 17 yard run by C.J. Prosise tied the score at 23 with only 4:58 left in the game. Gurley answered Prosise’s score with a 50 yard run, but less than two minutes later things were knotted up once again by way of a 6 yard run by Thomas Rawls. With less than a minute to play, LA was pushing toward a potential game-winning field goal when the Seahawks forced a turnover with a post-catch strip of Alshon Jeffery. One Russell Wilson completion later, Hauschka was set up for his deciding kick.
Russell Wilson eludes Michael Brockers before unloading a pass. Todd Gurley scores the game’s first TD. Maurice Alexander picks off Russell Wilson, then heckles him. Rookie DT Lowell Lotulelei broke free from a double-team to strip-sack Jared Goff, resulting in a safety. Ryan Anderson’s sack-fumble combo led to a touchdown by Aaron Donald. With C.J. Prosise’s 17 yard touchdown run, the Rams had fully blown their early 10-0 lead. Gurley celebrates his second TD. Alshon Jeffery coughs up the ball. Two plays later, Steven Hauschka hit the GWFG. Re: California Dreamin'
THE FAB 5, WEEK 5 1. MINNESOTA VIKINGS (5-0) And then there was one. 2. GREEN BAY PACKERS (4-1) NFC North is 1-2 this week. Shaping up to be an intense race. 4. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (4-1) Brady has had a chip on his shoulder since his vitality was questioned. 4. ATLANTA FALCONS (4-1) Good teams find ways to overcome key injuries. Winning by 46 is something superior to that. 5. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (4-1) Unlike the rest of the group, their most recent game was a loss. With Stafford Down, Lions Trade For Petty For the Detroit Lions, the bad news is that they have lost three straight games since beginning the season 2-0. The worse news is that Matthew Stafford’s quad injury could keep him out of action for until the final four weeks of 2018. The absence of a signal caller on the practice squad meant that the Leos were down to Derek Anderson and needed another arm. Meanwhile, Mitchell Trubisky’s return from injury left the Jets with one too many. Mike Glennon seems to have secured the number two spot for the time being and Gang Green seems to remain hesitant to admit Christian Hackenberg was a wasted pick, making Bryce Petty the expendable one. Rather than see the soon-to-be-released Petty hit the open market, the Lions decided to invest the modest cost of a 7th round pick in him. With Petty, the Lions get the benefit of a player who has already been learning Jim Bob Cooter’s offense, as new OC Brian Callahan has retained the scheme. That could mean a near-term shift from Anderson to Petty, especially if Anderson failed to effectively move the Detroit offense. The reality, however, is that this has probably become a lost season for the Lions and Jim Caldwell’s fate should not depend on the outcome. Boys Move Collins To LT In Wake Of Smith Injury The vaunted Dallas offensive line suffered a blow this weekend when Tyron Smith suffered a severe MCL strain. The impact of the loss of Dak Prescott’s blindside protector may not seem as dire as it seems, however. The versatile La’El Collins, who started for Dallas at LG before moving to RT this year, will take over there while Smith is on the mend. Rookie Cole Madison and second year man Jonah Pirsig will initially share time at right tackle before one is awarded a temporary starting job. Time For Westbrook To Step Up Former Heisman candidate DeDe Westbrook caught only 4 passes in his suspension-shortened rookie season, but moved up the depth chart this year following the departure of Brandon Marshall. Now with Eric Decker expected to be sidelined for 5-6 weeks, it’s time for Westbrook, who has had a quiet season so far, to flash what he showed at Oklahoma. Westbrook’s performance over the next few weeks should influence how much interest the Jets show in the top WR’s in the 2019 draft class. Re: California Dreamin'
After failing survive the duration of his NFL debut, in which he had a lackluster 4-catch, 26-yard performance, rookie receiver James Washington missed the Los Angeles Rams’ next four games. Although he could have suited up vs. the Seahawks last week, he wasn’t 100% and head coach Sean McVay decided err on the side of caution and sit him out. We cannot tell a lie- Washington was worth the wait, and the first round pick the Rams invested in him. In his first full professional game, against the visiting San Francisco 49ers, the Oklahoma St. alum scored his first career touchdown. And his second. And his third. Two of the scores were over 70 yards and Washington finished the game with 6 catches for 171 yards, scoring every other time he touched the ball. Jared Goff also fired a TD pass each to Alshon Jeffery and Martellus Bennett, completing 26 of 41 passes for 330 yards, and the LA defense kept the Niners out of the end zone as the Rams thrashed them 42-9.
James Washington grabs his first career TD. Washington heads for the end zone and TD no. 2. Josh Forrest separates punt returner Bruce Ellington from the ball. Forrest also recovered the fumble and took it in for a score. Martellus Bennett hauls in Jared Goff’s 5th touchdown pass of the game. Highlight Reel (5:33): |
