Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
I think I figured it out (why he's note able to be in the starting lineup)
I'm playing a Franchise with Ohtani on the Cubs. He's in the rotation as the third starter. If I were able to put him in the lineup as, say, my starting right fielder, what would happen to my lineup when he pitches?
Yes, I know he plays in the AL with a DH, so this specific instance won't apply for most people, but if there was an option to turn on" his ability to be placed in the lineup, it could cause some strange stuff happening if he were to move over to a National League team.
As someone who was very disappointed about the Ohtani thing, I think I get it now.
The main point being: there are consequences to everything that gets coded in the game, like the people clamoring for the ability to import new rosters into an existing franchise (what happens to the trades that already took place in your franchise? What if the Yankees were really bad in your franchise, but in real life they traded for Sonny Gray? Why would they do that if they were 20 games under .500?). There's things that we don't think about that the devs do (sometimes this just might involve things outside of DD, I don't know) and there's also weird things that we do in our franchises that the devs would never think about doing, which is why we see some weird bugs in the first few weeks.
The Ohtani thing, why did they bother having a secondary position for him? in real life he aint even gonna play in the Outfield. and seeing as you can't DH him in the starting lineup it actually makes the secondary position thing useless and pointless anyway. so if he was to be in a NL team, that would be the reason for that secondary position being in the outfield, even if you were to have him play in the outfield. and the fact they made the effort of getting him into the game and actually have the commentators point out he is a 2 way player, yet not actually have the option for this is puzzling.
I know in a business if I was going to make all that effort to put something into something that has never been done before I would want it to be done 100% correct, not 75% and wasting resources on only getting the job half done.
To me it feels like they planned to put it in got everything they needed and something didn't work, and thought Ohtani wouldn't make it big as a hitter and that no one would notice and rather then tell us it isn't in or is in, or explain why it isn't they let us talk in this thread for 400 pages about it speculating. it would be nice if the Devs actually just said 'we couldn't get it in the game and here is why' or 'we will try to get it in next year' or just simply no it isn't worth doing. just a simple one line answer would have been great and still great.Last edited by ninertravel; 04-18-2018, 06:44 PM.Comment

Originally posted by ninertravelI don't think people wanted updated rosters in franchise we want imported PLAYER into franchise. which would not effect this. the fact that CPU control on you can export a player and there is a import option means this could be possible. maybe a import likeness faces attributes only would be great and save 30 mins of taking a video and editing 1 player of work. (it takes me 30 mins to do this)

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
Perhaps an idea is that they make the position player secondary position a pitcher, maybe that is easier to do?
you can pitch with position players, but they currently suck when you do. and their is no ratings you can edit for it.Comment

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
Off topic, but ya know, I wish they would randomly give a few position players a knuckler to go with the fastball and changeup. But with zero control and zero break/movement.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
How are you guys handling Ohtani in your Franchise? I want him to get at bats but don’t want to put him in the lineup/pinch hit for him for games I’m not playing

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
i don't think they ever pinch hit w/ Ohtani if you just sim the game.Comment

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
You have to start game pinch hit him at DH, then quick manage.
Thats what I do.

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
I pretty much do what everyone else seems to be doing; when he's not pitching, i quick manage until I get to the DH which is where Otani pinch hits (i only do this against righties), then I fast forward thru the game.Comment

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
I've got a question for guys who have been using the workaround..
Will pitchers playing in the field be defensive disasters(other than Ohtani, who has lf/rf secondary)?
In franchise, the idea is that I acquire several 2-way players.. Ohtani, McKay, Greene, even Bethancourt and other lesser talented 2 way guys.. This way I can carry about 14 pitchers, always have fresh arms, and have them play in the field when necessary.Comment

Top of the first, McKay drops 4 outs at 1st, Greene boots 2 easy ground balls(but sends some lasers across the infield) Ohtani was fine on 2 balls hit to left..
Experiment over.Comment

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
They added a new "feature" where if someone is out of position at first, they'll drop the majority of balls thrown their way. It was done because last year in DD, there was basically no downside to playing someone out of position at first. So people just played whatever bat they wanted to fit into the lineup there and actual first basemen had little value. Why this "fix" had to be applied outside of DD, I've no idea. But it is typical...something changed for offline to address something happening in DD.Comment

Also, on the realism side, 1B is exactly where some teams play a bat that has a better player in front of them because it's relatively easy to play.. shouldn't the lack of stretching and scooping be enough to punish DD players?
It's an extremely poor shortcut solution to something that's arguably not a real problem. Very disappointing.
With concussions pushing top tier athletes away from football and other contact sports, baseball is about to see an influx of versatile 2-way "natural" athletes. The Show would do well to get ahead of it.Comment

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
So if Ohtani gets tommy john whats the chances they won't put 2 way player in next year as well because he will miss 2020 season as well/Comment

I hope I'm wrong & Sony gives San Diego the resources to add it in MLB 19.
I believe they are most likely keeping it out for reasons involving online cheasing.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23
