Some people have also brought up Arenado. If I recall, he is coming up on his last year of eligibility in 2019. If the Rockies are not contending, and they know Arenado won’t re-sign, it makes complete sense to deal him at the deadline or in the offseason in order to recoup any losses. Similar to the Chapman and Gray moves along with what Baltimore SHOULD have done with Machado.

Again, great GM logic in my mind

I am all for real life contracts. But you will run into major budget bugs using real life contracts. That is why the best OSFM rosters use the SCEA stock contracts. You can't play long term with real life money contracts. It causes all sorts of bugs in regards to teams budgets and players not being signed.
Have they ever explained why the budget and financial system is the way it is? Can the game not handle an accurate budget system, or is this something that's easier for them to program the way it is?

Good question. I do not know nor was it explained why. They just let us know that the budget system is based on their stock contracts and if you deviate from their budget system it will go haywire.

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode

Anyone else note the irony of when they were trying to look at the standings and had to cycle through the entire league, team by team, before being able to find the NL East and AL West respectively?

Thought all this streamlining was supposed to put the information right in front of you. Instead of being able to hit square and expand the standings, or be able to cycle through them, they had to take all of that time.

The entire stream was painful to watch. The new UI looks nice, but they update it to look nice every year, pretty much. There literally was no point to this stream other than to sim through a season and see it is exactly the same as before.

Even the playoff bracket was hard to read. Dull, no logos or team colors. And they struggled to tell which team they were controlling at times because the only place it is listed was the bottom right. So they’re talking about farm teams and don’t even know what organization tree they are in currently because there’s no mention of it on the whole screen. It’s like fixing things that weren’t broken to create new issues that make it more cumbersome in other ways.

Retirement and Bullpen logic are nice improvements, but really shouldn’t have taken them this long to realize they were issues. Funny they said they found out they were problems by simply playing a franchise. Yeah, ask anyone of us here that play the game. We could’ve told them that. It’s like, test your game much?

Trade logic doesn’t mean anything to me personally because I do 30 team control and handle all trades and roster moves and just replicate the real moves done in baseball on the days they occur. Got tired of teams making bonehead moves and having to fix them so this was just easier. But that’s all sports games that suffer from this issue.

The pop up messages and alerts were dull. No color. All text. No logos. Wasn’t easy to take in the information fast as a result.

Would’ve like to have seen the other tabs in franchise instead of staying on the main one and just simming. Felt a lot of disconnect still from around the league. Can you still sim all games individually? In 30 team control you have to sim all other games first if you want to have “live” scores during the game you play.

Also found it hilarious that they didn’t know if they signed Sparky Anderson or not. No alerts or screens mentioning anything. They even seemed perplexed by this. And sure as heck hope that you can turn off legends being able to be hired as coaches in franchise. No desire to have that at all, unless they are somehow still alive and would still be able to coach a team.

The entire stream seemed like a struggle. They seemed bored. The interface seemed clunky still, yet upgraded in the visuals department. They’re wasn’t anything new to show off really, and most of what they were doing was just explaining baseball rules and protocols and then apologizing for the vets who would already know this or ensuring us that you didn’t have to skip things. But everything they do seems like it’s made to be simulated and skipped rather than playing or doing yourself anyway. Because they don’t seem to think anyone has the attention span for what real baseball is.

When we were at the community events, we were told it was due to the MLB/MLBPA not allowing real life contracts. Before people mention 2K did it, you are right, they 'did it', they are no longer holder of the license, and some speculate they had a special leeway being an exclusive 3rd part holder.

Sony does not, nor ever had an exclusive license with them.

Which is funny considering there's players in my franchises that will want $30 million according to the morale screen. Heck, Harper will in this game

My stud ace in my old franchise wanted $31 M/yr, that's more than Stanton . Heck Jurickson Profar wanted $25 million/yr and Jorge Mateo wanted $26 million. No, I'm not bitter or anything...

I'm legit afraid of what Betts will want...

I understand that, it's the same way in OOTP. Yet OOTP has a realistic financial and budgeting system that allows them to make contracts as close to real life as possible.

I'm wondering why The Show team didn't implement their budgeting and financial system in that same regard, so contracts could at least be close to real life and behave as such?

The reason it took so long in regards to standings was because they had 30 team control on and he was cycling thru teams instead of accessing the standings screen

I know that, but if you are trying to show off how easy the new UI is (when that is the main “upgrade” this year) don’t you think it would’ve made more sense to just tab over to the league standings rather than to try and cycle through the entire league?

And wouldn’t it have made sense to program the ability to just hit square and expand the standings that are on the main tab? That function was in last year’s game and seemingly has been removed. So we are actually regressing in ease of use with these menus.

And I think a great deal of us here run our franchise using 30 team control. So this didn’t exactly light my world on fire as to finding out what to expect to deal with.

I think a lot has to do with licensing, you have to be something like 2/3 different from the item you are replicating. Now that is a general rule, does not apply to everything, some you can get away with more than others. More than likely they were erring on the side of caution, because late PS2 and early on in the PS3 era, when licensing was being cracked down and tightened more than ever, the approval process was one of the biggest holdups and headaches.

They will have to rewrite it, and hopefully they do some day, close to how OOTP does it.

Text based games such as OOTP don't fall under the same guidelines.

Well they do in the sense that they're still not allowed to use real MLBPA contracts. I'm fully aware of that and always have been.

The question I was asking is why The Show can't give us a realistic budget and financial system to make them as close to real life as possible. If no one knows why they can't, that's fine. I understand there are limitations and roadblocks when it comes to console games.
