No sports game does everything perfect especially trade logic but games get the best of it and work pretty well. The Show can be that game too.

I don't think the trade logic will ever be perfect. That's not an excuse, but, in my opinion, a logical conclusion (yes, my brain is small). Tagging players has been booted around. So, each team gets tagged players that won't be traded? (except for Minnesota, lol). I believe the team that has put this game together has gone overboard. So a fantasy player who wants to load up his team and win 146 games can't do it? See, danged if you do, danged it you don't.

Let's compare Interplay Baseball 2001 to todays Interplay (wait there is no Interplay Baseball). Okay, then MVP 2004 to todays MVP (woops, doesn't exist). I'm being quite facetious and this is given with some major tongue in cheek and not meant to be condescending at all (just rambling at no one in particular), but man these developers have given us a game FULL of options. Options that some on here don't even know exist to help them out.

I mean, if a player cuts his hair during the season, some will have a cow that it isn't corrected in the next LIVE roster (some appear to want to give up the game it' such a distraction).

Anyway, we can go round and round and constructive criticism is good, just as others who believe that some of the magic asked for may not be able to be accomplished up to standards (create a stadium would be one).

      Peace.

With all the complaints about Franchise Mode this year it really has me wondering if SDS will finally make the hardcore guys happy and give Franchise Mode it's biggest update ever in MLB The Show 19?????

Since RTTS and DD got pretty big updates this year perhaps SDS should use most have their resources for Franchise Mode in MLB The Show 19 and hopefully add most if not all of your most wanted feature requests!

I don't even play Franchise Mode just a Season guy here but I really do feel bad for all the hardcore Franchise Mode guys! The mode is definitely lacking!

Re: MLB The Show 18 Twitch Stream Starting Now - Franchise Mode

After watching Mills’ breakdown of the franchise stream I have decided to purchase this years game. I, like many other, am underwhelmed by the improvements made to franchise mode but my love of the game drives me to want the new and improved version. I just couldn’t see continuing with 17 knowing that there is another game that plays even a little bit better. I like the new retirement and lineup logic, along with the other improvements throughout gameplay.

My problem now is I plan on carrying over my Red Sox franchise to 18, and wanted to finish up with the playoffs this next week before 18 is released. But this morning I lost in the wildcard game to bring my season to an end. I don’t want to move on to the off-season because I want to take advantage of the new retirement logic. Offline Franchise is pretty much all I play so I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself this next week while I wait... this next week is going to be a long one

And the improvements made to Franchise are not small! They updated logic for injury replacement, CPU lineups, retirement and minor league signings! This will eliminate A LOT of those “it’s a video game” moments that I know we all had with 2017.

              And Phases looks great!

I know the rules of baseball like the back of my hand. I could easily navigate the offseason in 2017 without having to Google anything. And yet I am very excited about Phases. I think it will mean the off-season plays out much more similarly that real life, instead of me just doing all the work in early November and then simming along.

Better stadiums, better colours, better game play, better menus, better logic... Shohei Otani and Ronald Acuna... this is going to be the best game ever!!

First of all, let me say that I 100 percent respect your opinion. We all have different views on things. It what makes the world great. Why can't I just be happy with the improvements? Well, that is also my right. My problem is the overall tone of your comment. "This is going be the greatest game ever? Do you work for SDS? cause I am sincerely worried, if you take SDS word (even Ramone), or any other game developers word for it before release of a game. That's a dangerous way to go about games and life. They will do anything to sell a game. Now, I do think there game is very solid (and they they seem to be pretty honest) but I don't take nothing or no one at word value. The problem with saying they fixed "logic" is that is very abstract to say it in a live stream. I didn't see anything in that stream to tell me they fixed it at all. That will be determined a few months down the road when it's been thoroughly tested. It's why pre-orders are the dumbest thing you could ever do in a video game sense. Also, I'm not sure including Acuna and Otani in the game is a real big thing, as that is as standard as including jersey in the game. It's like asking for a cone for your ice cream. That's kinda automatic.

My main issue they have brought nothing new to the table as a very deep offline franchise baseball fan. It was geared toward casual. Now, I know this game will never be OOTP as far as depth but NBA has far surpassed the show in terms of depth. I just expected more (especially since they said they added what we wanted? I didn't see it) and the fact is whether anyone likes it or not, they have to earn my business, not the other way around and for today, they have not done that. I hope next year they can cause I do love playing the show.

And that's just off the top of my head. Whenever you see a dodgy move by the AI, whether it's the Indians inexplicably trading Jose Ramirez for Whit Merrifield, Stanton on the trade block when the Yankees are going for it, or Altuve signing a 9 year deal with the A's, all you have to do is think "what is the reason that wouldn't happen in real life" and you'd probably come up with more.

I'm not saying all these things should be in there, but more that there is plenty of scope for improvement.
Thank you for this. I can agree with these points.

I agree in regards to the AI logic fixes. We have to experience them firsthand to see if they are fixed. As we all know there are correct sound type fixes and then there are the tape and glue type which don't necessarily give the same correct result as we saw with the bunting fix last year.

I hope the Franchise guys get their updates as well but I honestly can't see them pulling resources from the two most popular modes of the game. I think the more likely scenario is that they do well enough to hire more resources for franchise.

Game trade logic will never be perfect because real life trade logic ain't perfect. Ask any marlins fan

That said, it could be improved in my opinion. Too many superstars or team fixtures are traded too often.

Not what I would prefer in franchise but there were some improvements. Gameplay is my biggest concern as a manage mode exclusive user because last year was a fail for me and I quit playing the game in June for the first time in the history of the series.

I may buy the game but not on the pre-order. I want to see more gameplay before I make a decision. It isn't that $60 dollars is a big deal but I feel like a chump if I guy the game only to discover it isn't improved. The new tag system in particular has me wondering if every close tag play will result in an out. Weird balls curving foul dynamic appear to still be in the game.

In short I'm not thrilled about franchise but it is gameplay that has me keeping my cash in my pocket. Stop listening to the arcade mode people or make two types of gameplay, realism and arcade.

Even if Franchise mode becomes a priority again someday, let's say that DD and RTTS have had their 3 years each in the sun and the devs are very pleased with how those modes have come along, that doesn't really help with the feeling that Franchise mode has been seriously neglected in MLB 17 and 18...and every version until priorities happen to change? It's a tough sell to string someone along for major features maybe someday, maybe next year, but for the time being you should just buy this version that has none of that stuff you want in it. It's a predicament for sure. I figure quite a few of us will end up either not buying at all or making a grudging purchase more out of love for the sport and habit than wanting to show support for this version of the game.

If they are working on some major feature behind the scenes that is sapping development resources (like create-a-stadium or something groundbreaking of that equivalent), then we won't really know that until whatever game version that pops out. All we can see is they haven't communicated that they even want to deepen the mode or that they have any desire to do anything beyond tidying up in the margins (slick menus, streamlining, new artwork, small edits to very specific logic bugs). With their design choices, they've told us what their priorities are: they want us to be able to navigate around the mode easily and intuitively, they want things to look nice, and they want us to be able to play as much or as little of the games as we want. Two years of data back that statement up.

Ramone has said if we were to get create-a-stadium that we'd get nothing else for 2 years and that they keep trying really hard to get rotating schedules in--I'm inclined to believe him. There's no reason not to. We can be disappointed with the product and the vision, but still think they are good people who like baseball and want to make good games. But that doesn't change the fact they continue to not add any of these high-level features that Franchise mode enthusiasts have been clamoring for.

Don't wanna play with other humans, so I really look forward to every year to offline play. This stream was very disappointing indeed. I felt like they were telling us what we wanted with no evidence of who they were talking to. It's a ploy many developers use. I'm not buying it. I hope everyone else has a great time with the game this year. Maybe they will update it next year and I can get back into the game. Great weekend to you all.
I have a question. I too am strictly offline franchise. Apologies to the moderators for bringing up another website but it is relevant to this discussion. Do you post on the "official" website shownation and if so are your hours played accurately reflected? The reason I ask is because my actual hours played as an offline franchise user are far greater than what they have me listed at and I can't post on their forums because they say I haven't played enough hours. I wonder if this is a universal problem and the developers don't realize how many people and hours are played this mode because their method of collecting data is flawed.

This would explain why they focus what I would consider shallow things like critical situations, retro mode and now phases instead of adding depth. They are trying to attract more casual users to franchise mode because they don't realize how many people play it already.
