Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Wanted to start a new Fantasy draft with an American League team now that the Hybrid roster was out. I chose the Texas Rangers. I asked a friend to pick a number for me. He choose 7. That was how many times I reset the draft order and took the number it gave me and drafted from there, which was pick 8.

Here is the team I came out with

    RF Christian Yelich
    2B Scott Kingery
    CF Mike Trout
    1B Anthony Rizzo
    LF Marcell Ozuna
DH Nick Markakis (Will DH Vs RHP)
    3B Christian Villanueva
    SS Freddy Galvis
    C Francisco Cervelli

    C Jeff Mathis
    2B Yangervis Solarte
    SS Yunel Escobar
    LF Gerardo Parra
LF Matt Holliday (Will DH Vs LHP)

    SP Marcus Stroman
    SP Felix Hernandez
    SP Joe Musgrove
    SP Mike Foltynewicz
    SP Aaron Sanchez

RP Bryan Mitchell (LRP, Spot Starter)
    MRP Josh Hader (L)
    MRP Shane Greene (R)
    MRP Darren O'Day (R)
    SU Archie Bradley (R)
    SU Andrew Miller (L)
    CP Corey Knebel (R)

    Key Prospects
    SP Anthony Banda
    SP Carson Fulmer
    SP Justus Sheffield
    SP Dillion Tate
    SP Sandy Alcantara
    SP Yadier Alvarez
    SP Griffin Canning
    SP Alex Faedo
    C Chance Sisco
    RF Magneuris Sierra

The focus in the upcoming Player Draft will be on the offensive side as you can tell

Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Did end up trading Lance McCullers Jr. and got what I feel is a pretty decent return. When I trade a player or trade for a player I never personally select the trade, but instead use the suggest trade option. I ended up trading McCullers to the Reds for Francis Martes and Matt Manning. Martes has been placed in my Major League starting rotation and will make his first start as a Philly in the first game of our upcoming homestead. He will face off against the Pirates and Julio Urias. Matt Manning was sent to Double A Reading to be a part of their starting rotation. Am looking more at position players in the June draft than pitchers but one pitcher in particular could be my first round selection.

Prospects currently being considered for the 3rd overall pick are:
SP Luis Crow, MLB ETA 2019, 70overall, 80potential, Age 22
SP Malcolm Ford, MLB ETA 2021, 60overall, 80potential, Age 18
CP Anthony Capel, MLB ETA 2019, 70overall, 80potential, Age 20
CP Victor Pena, MLB ETA 2019, 70overall, 80potential, Age 20
CP Eric Abreu, MLB ETA 2020 65overall, 80potential, Age 18
      C Sammy Pena, MLB ETA 2021, 60overall, 80potential, Age 21
      2B Jonas Asencio, MLB ETA 2021, 60overall, 80potential, Age 18
      2B Doug Gates, MLB ETA 2022+, 60overall, 80potential, Age 18

Crow and Asencio are the favorites to go to the Phillies 3rd overall as of right now.

Next post will come after Martes makes his first start as a Philly. Will post to let you know how he did.

Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Francis Martes did indeed get the start against Julio Urias and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He excited the game in the 5th inning with a 3 to2 lead, but the bullpen could not keep the lead and the Phillies lost by a final score of 4 to 3. The Phillies have made some roster moves following this latest loss. Tyler Flowers has been option to Triple A Lehigh Valley after posting a .164AVG with 1HR and 4RBI at the Major League level. Elias Diaz has been called up to the majors after posting a .342AVG with 3HR and 10RBI at Triple A, he will take Flowers' roster space. Another major roster move has also been made. Gregor Blanco who is now in the midst of. major slump after a hot start to the season has been sent to Triple A. Top prospect Leody Taveras has been called up to the majors and start in center field against the Pirates and Antonio Senzatela. The NL East appears to be the division to watch as the Phillies, Mets, and Nationals are tied for first with the Braves only 1 game behind them. The Marlins currently sit 4.5 games back in the division.

          Mets Enter June 58-24

The Mets continue to dominate the National League, as they own the best record in baseball (by 4 games). After jumping out of the gate, the Mets shocked the baseball world. May trades aren't usually a thing, and yet the Mets made a few moves that should strengthen the team for a World Series push. Heres a look at what was given up, and what was gained:

6/10: Mets accquire 3B Matt Carpenter and SP Jack Flaherty from the A's in exchange for - CF Steven Duggar, SP Chance Adams, and 2B Brad Miller.

6/13: Mets acquire RP Tommy Kahnle from the Angles for RP Matt Harvey, RF Hernan Perez, and SP Miguel Almonte

          Trade Impact

Both moves impact the Mets in the short term, and the future:
Matt Carpenter gives the Mets a legit DH option against AL teams, will get plenty of playing time as a pinch hitter as well as giving our big 3 infielders days off, and serves as injury insurance & a stop gap if Donaldson signs elsewhere in the offseason.
Jack Flaherty was basically swapped for Chance Adams. A year younger, the Mets feel like they can afford to allow Flaherty to spend an extra year in the minors, due to our depth.
Tommy Kanhle solidifies what has been one of the best pens in the game this year. The native New Yorker also comes with an additional two years of control, which won't handicap the Mets into overpaying for Strop or his replacement.

          * The hardest player to trade away was by far CF Steven Duggar. Duggar filled in amazingly for Gardner when he was injured, and looked like he may very well be the future in CF. The loss was lessened with Dustin Fowler able to man center, and waiting in the wings *

Now that thats out of the way, lets look at how the teams doing through the June 1st:

Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Games one was everything you would have thought it would be. Pitcher duel. Houston took an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the first. then in the 3rd Paul DeJong would homer to make it 2-0.

The Rangers would make it 2-1 in the 7th on a Freddy Galvis single. The Rangers would have a couple chances to tie the game but both were thwarted by baserunning mishaps, none bigger than Nick Markakis being thrown out at 3rd after trying to make it an inside the park homerun. Mookie Betts would dive and miss a hit by Markakis and Markakis would try to go back to third after rounding it and Catcher Austin Hedges would throw him out at third, and end any chance of the Rangers coming back.

Carlos Martinez would get the win, and Stroman would take the loss

Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Ok game two, the Astros got off to a fast start yet again. This time putting up 3 runs in the first four innings off of Felix Hernandez. It looked like King Felix would be exiting the game early. Hernandez had other plans he would settle down and the offensive would take off from here.

The Rangers would score 1 in the fourth, 3 in the fifth, 2 in the sixth, 2 in the seventh, and 1 in the eighth to back King Felix's Complete game. Hernandez would only need 93 total pitches to finish off the game. Hernandez gave up 3 runs on 10 hits while striking out 9 batters.

5 Homeruns were the major cause of the 9 runs scored. Even thou the first 3 runs were all scored on singles. Mike Trout would hit two Homeruns as well as Anthony Rizzo, Christian Villanueva would add one as well.

Well it’s official. Playing diamond dynasty killed my franchise. Mainly just because I found players that I enjoy playing with more so than guys on Mets chise. That being said...RE-DRAFT Red Sox franchise in progress

This can happen. That was why I wanted to do an AL Franchise. I have been having fun with DD this season, so my franchise's have suffered as a result.

Now I have to hope I don't see something in your draft results I want and have to re-draft again. I hope not cause I like my team lol

Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

First year playing MLB: The Show. After a few months of practicing (I have got the pitching part mostly down, but hitting remains a work in progress), I decided it was time to start a fantasy draft franchise with my (currently hapless) Toronto Blue Jays.

I used the OSFM Hybrid Rosters. Picked at #15. No trades.

Will be using Mike Lowe's slider set (on All Star level with some tweaks to make hitting easier for me and the CPU) with Armor’s True Classic Clean Screen Approach.

As I said I am new to this game (and therefore still not the most skilled) and not the most knowledgeable MLB fan, so I did not focus too much on picking prospects, but rather tried to build a team that could (hopefully) win this year.

I began by picking Jose Altuve as my franchise player to build around. I then took a veteran catcher, Buster Posey, as I think having a catcher who excels at fielding and picking off base runners is an important asset in this game. I then built the top of my rotation, picking three pitchers currently in their primes (Johnny Cueto, Dallas Keuchel, Yu Darvish). After that I focused on adding speed at the top of my lineup (Dee Gordon), and power for the middle (Zack Cozart, Justin Smoak, Ryan Zimmerman), while also building my bullpen (Zach Britton, Darren O'Day, Joakim Soria).

Here is how my team looks after the draft:

                        Rotation
                        RHP Johnny Cueto (89)
                        LHP Dallas Keuchel (86)
                        RHP Yu Darvish (87)
                        LHP J.A. Happ (86)
                        RHP Jeff Sardzija (84)

                        Bullpen
MRP (R): Seung Hwan Oh (80)
                        MRP (L): Brian Duensing (81)
                        MRP (L): Jerry Blevins (79)
                        MRP (R): Sergio Romo (79)
                        SU (R): Darren O'Day (86)

                        SS (R) Jose Altuve (98)
                        C (R) Buster Posey (96) / (R) Yadier Molina (78) plays every 5th game
                        DH (S) Justin Smoak (82) vRHP / (R) Matt Kemp (79) vLHP
                        1B (R) Ryan Zimmerman (82)
                        3B (R) Zack Cozart (85)
                        RF (L) Brett Gardner (82)
                        SS (R) Troy Tulowitzki (79) vLHP / (R) Dustin Pedroia (81) vRHP*
                        LF (L) Curtis Granderson (81)

                        Bench
Utility Player: (S) Ben Zobrist (78)
(*Altuve switches to SS, and Pedroia plays 2B)

Will post an update after our opening 4-game series with the New York Yankees!

Ok so after seeing Jsmith's Red Sox Draft. I did a Draft with the Sox as well. I may not play with this team but the draft will just get my craving for picking a team out the way.

Any way had 8th pick> here are my first 25 Picks. I did trade for Solarte. I gave up Logan Forsythe, and SS Prospect Lucius Fox. I also traded for Knebel for my closer. I gave up SP Dillion Tate, CF Jeremy Hazelbaker, and 3B Ryan Mountcastle.

Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Some days...I really hate Coors Field.

Just, really, really hate the place.

And some days, I really, really hate my pitchers.

Won 19-10 to close out a split series with the Brewers. I hate playing games like this.

In fact, the whole game was a sloppy mess on both sides. Brewers made 4 errors, 3 in one inning. Finnegan walked 4 straight batters.

From the 5th inning on, the Rockies had 11 runs and the Brewers 10.

An 8-run first inning was a huge difference.

The other three games in the series were orderly. Rockies lost games one and three 6-3 and 6-4, respectively. They won game two 6-2.

                              Then this game happened.

The Rockies are going to have to figure out the pitching staff. There may not be a decent arm in the bunch, even from those, like Arrieta, who have good ratings. Ohtani is the only bright spot on the mound.

The Rockies ended Michael Brantley's hitting streak at 25 games. He went 0-for-3 with 2 walks.

"We were determined to put an end to this streak even if we had to walk him every time. I think he got frustrated because I know at least one of those outs he made was on a chase and I believe the one strikeout we got on him was a chase on a high heater, " the Rockies manager commented.

About to do a Fantasy Draft with default rosters. But I have balanced out all positions so they all have same amount of 90+ 80+ 70+ 60+ overalls. I didn't mess with attributes just changed players positions. Only thing I'm changing attributes wise is some players potentials like Barraclough who is a D potential to a B potential. If anyone wants to try these out let me know... I'll let everyone know how my team turns out
