Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

The Rockies looked to continue their win streak as they concluded the road trip with three against the Pirates.

In game 1, Shelby Miller was able to give the Rockies seven decent innings while the bats came alive. The Rockies had jumped out to a 5-0 lead, and then to a 6-2 lead before the Pirates made a 6-4 through seven innings. The Rockies were able to pick up a couple more insurance runs on an 2-RBI single in the 8th to make the score 8-4. Earlier, Escobar hit a 3-run HR to cap off the 3rd inning. The bullpen held the lead for the Rockies win.

In game 2, Bartolo Colon looked shaky on the mound and didn't have a good day. The Rockies had a 3-0 lead, but that quickly evaporated and turned into a 6-3 deficit by the time they chased Colon from the game. The Pirates bullpen was holding things down for a while, but in the 7th, Miguel Sano delivered a game-tying, 2-outs, 3-run home run right when it looked like the Rockies were going to waste a great chance to draw closer. The team then piled on six more runs to turn it into a 12-6 score that would become a 12-7 win.

The third and final game was a pitching duel from start to finish. Yairo Munoz hit a home run to jump out 1-0 but the Pirates tied it at 1 as Guzman drove in Machado in the 4th. That would be how the score would stand through nine innings. Rockies starter Bridwell dueled Pirates hurler Wacha through six innings and then the bullpens took over. The game would need 12 innings to find a conclusion. That end came on a walk-off triple by Pina off Devenski to give the Pirates a 2-1 victory and snap the Rockies win streak at 8 games.

In the game Vizcaino went down with an injury and is expected to miss 4 to 8 weeks with a broken hand. Francisco Rodriguez was called up to fill the empty spot in the bullpen.

After a day off, the Rockies will head home for a quick six game home stand starting with three with the Cubs.

I love the super utility guys to fill out benches, some of the IF positions

Jose Pirela, Yangervis Solarte, Derek Dietrich, Hernan Perez, Brock Holt, Nick Franklin

I almost always have some combo of those guys on my team, play almost everywhere.

Everyone has different players who they do well with, but some guys I've picked up late usually for backups are Cargo, Lucas Duda, Danny Valencia and Pedro Alvarez(I love power hitters) and I can absolutely rake with all of them.

I picked up Charlie Morton late as a starter and I pitch very well with him.

I have Khris Davis on my team and although he's not a late round pick, I think he is a huge value pick for the round you can get him in( I feel like I got him somewhere in the 8-10 range). He hits bombs all day for me. He's not a very strong defender, but makes up for it with run production. Same for Schwarber who you can get in the 10-12 rounds I believe.

Greg Bird is definitely a good later round pick guy if you want a left handed 1b. Pirela I might not be spelling it right from the Padres is a good later pick as well as solarte pitching wise like somebody else said is Morton but also Felix Hernandez is around kinda late

Other guys to look for that I have had success with in later rounds:

Andrew Miller. I know that isn't late, but I think i nabbed him in the 10th or 11th round. That is a value pick for a shutdown arm.

Eduardo Escobar. He can play multiple positions and the dude just mashes for me.

Brandon Kintzler. Drafted him after the 25th round I think and he is in my stacked bullpen. The sinker is nasty.

Todd Frazier - 99 Power vs Lefties is amazing if you're using an NL team so you can either start him against lefties or sub him in when the opponent brings in a lefty reliever.

                    MLB Level Guys

RP Matt Barnes is a solid option as a reilever, guy is flat out filthy, controllable for 3 years, and is picked up in the later part of the first 25 rounds. Real good value, could be used as a primary set-up even.

RP/CP Brad Brach - Another nasty option for relief. Seems like every year I draft him he turns out to be absolutely nasty for me. I personally use him as a closer, and get him around 8-9 round I believe.

C Travis d'Arnaud - real good option if you're gonna wait on catcher like me, and wanna run a platoon.

CF Austin Jackson - If I remember correctly, I believe I got him around the 15th round. In my opinon, you can't find a better 4th Outfielder. Great defense, really solid contact against left / righties.

                    Depth Guys

SS Andrew Romine, 2B Phil Gosselin, 2B Brad Miller, LF Mikie Mahtook.

All subjective I guess to your playing style, and preference when it comes to batting stances, pitch selection and value on multiple positions played.

**Its been a while since i've posted here, almost a month I think - whew! Been busy with family visiting from out of town lately. Anyway, I have been playing quite a bit of the Show, and have made it to the June draft, grinding out these games. Working on the update post now for Mickey's Mets**

                      44-12 Through June

The Met's look to be running away with the NL East, with a 15.5 game lead over the 2nd place Phillies (29-28). Rookie sensation Scott Kingery won his second NL Rookie of the Month Award, as his average sits at an eye-popping .407 entering the first day of June. CF Steven Duggar has played quite well since being thrust into the lineup after Brett Gardner's injury early in the season. Heres a look at how the team is performing so far this season:

                      Mets Outlook

At 44-12 there isn't a whole lot to be upset about, but this is New York. Short Stop JJ Hardy is getting up there in years, and although his bat came alive in May, some are calling for an upgrade at the position for the long term. SP Brandon McCarthy is well on his way to pitching himself out of the rotation thanks to the long ball, and recently converted RP Matt Harvey may find his way out of town.

With the impending return of Brett Gardner, and Steven Duggar's performance in his absence, Duggar surely looks like a "must-have" player for any team the Mets do business with.

                      Awards

MVP - Josh Donaldson has moved into 2nd place in the early race for MVP, behind San Francisco's Aaron Judge, after a may in which he earned NL player of the month honors thanks to batting .363 with 7 hr and 37 rbi's.

Rookie of the Year - Scott Kingery looks to have a firm grip on the ROY honors over the Pirates Nick Senzel.

Batting Title - Scott Kingery (Leader)

                      First Year Player Draft

The Mets had the 6th overall selection in the First Year Player Draft. Here are the results:

Round 1: SP Mike Snyder (R/R) 6'4'', 204lbs ,20 Years Old (72 Overall / 99 Potential)- The big righty out of New York looks every bit the part of an old school ace. Snyder boasts a non-traditional 5 pitch arsenal (cutter, change, sinker, curve, slider), with low to mid 90's heat, good break on all of his pitches and the ability to pitch deep into games (94 stamina). MLB ETA - Late 2019 / Early 2020

Round 2: 3B Floyd Barr (S/R) 6'5'', 229lbs, 18 Years Old (74 Overall / 77 Potential) - Another New Yorker, Barr may be close to his potential, but that isn't a knock on the young third baseman. A switch hitter that does most of his damage against right handed pitching, Barr's contact tool is close to MLB ready. Defense will be the key, as Barr boasts an above average glove, but needs work on his arm strength if he wants to stick at the hot corner. Barr showed off some versatility in college though, and has the ability to transition to a corner OF spot down the line. MLB ETA - 2020

Round 3: CF Eduardo Perez (L/R) 6'0'', 202lbs, 20 Years Old (70 Overall / 79 Potential) - Perez breaks the theme of selecting players out of New York, as the young outfielder from Florida was made the 3rd selection for the mets. Perez is known for his BLAZING speed (98). Outside of that, Perez shows decent arm strength (74), and 4th outfielder contact. That may be Perez's long term road to the show though, as he profiles as a heavily used pinch runner / defensive replacement down the road. MLB ETA - 2020

Round 4: SP Oscar Salgado (L/L) 5'10'', 187lbs, 20 Years Old (60 Overall / 90 Potential) - Salgado is a pitchers pitcher out of the Dominican Republic. Mid-Range stamina (82), to go along with decent velocity and a 5 pitch arsenal (4-seam, change, cutter, sinker, slider), should keep Salgado in the Mets long term plans for the rotation. MLB ETA - 2022

Round 5: C Michael Robles (R/R) 6'3'', 191lbs, 22 Years Old (51 Overall / 70 Potential) - Robles will look to join the long line of successful Major Leaguers from Venezuela, but he has a long road ahead of him. Robles best asset at this time is his arm strength (69). If Robles can improve on his defense and arm strength, he should eventually see time behind the dish at the MLB level. MLB ETA - 2022+

Round 6: SS Matt McDonald (R/R) 5'11'', 183lbs, 20 Years Old (63 Overall / 67 Potential) - McDonald has utility player written all over him, with high contact grades (65/76), to go along with good speed (69) and base-running abilities. An ability to jump around the infield should push McDonald's rise to the majors. Although he doesn't project to be a star, McDonald should have a serviceable MLB career. MLB ETA 2020 / 2021

** Disclaimer ** This is the first time in my years of playing the show that I drafted a player with 99 Potential. Also, I made my own ETA's on the drafted players, just what I'm hoping for I guess.

*Overall, I am super excited about the draft class, looks like we've really plugged some holes in the minors and are set up well for the future*

                          Wow.

If there was ever a game where the "never quit, never stop grinding" mindset paid off, I just saw it in the game I just got done.

Ohtani and Pena, the Marlins starter, were just dueling. Both gave up walks, but both were allowing next to nothing in hits. In fact, the Rockies were no-hit through six innings.

Ohtani blinked first, giving up a couple runs in the 6th and he left with a line of 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. The Rockies dropped behind 3-0 through seven, though the Rockies finally got their first hit, a Miguel Sano single to left.

The Rockies finally broke through with a run in the 8th, but they could have had more.

Down 3-1, the Rockies needed to face Brandon Morrow to try to come from behind.

Gallo got things started by blistering a ball through the shift for a single. Then Juan Lagares poked a double to right center to put men on second and third.

Ichiro was due up, but the Rockies sent Jose Bautista up to the plate to pinch hit. After taking a change down and then chasing a high fastball, Bautista stepped out to compose himself. Next pitch, he hit a towering no-doubt home run to left to give the Rockies a 4-3 lead.

Mallex Smith came in to play defense in RF, but Devenski was on the ball and delivered a perfect 9th to seal the come from behind win.

"That's why we picked up guys like Jose [Bautista]. Guys that have the veteran experience to deal with these situations. He knew how to compose himself and come through for the team, " the Rockies manager commented.

Mychel Givens picked up the win for his perfect 8th inning. Devenski's save was his seventh on the season.
"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18

Decided to try something different with my new fantasy draft franchise. Instead of selecting the players myself, I simply chose to play as my favorite and local team, the Phillies, and simply let the computer select my team for me. Am using a customized OSFM roster that I edited myself. Adjusted player ratings and potentials according to how they are currently performing in real life while also taking into account how they have performed perviously in their careers. This is the team I got.

                            MLB Starting Rotation:
                            1. Lance McCullers Jr.
                            2. James Shield
                            3. Kyle Gibson
                            4. Jordan Lyles
                            5. Luis Perdomo

                            MLB Bullpen:

Through the first 16 games of the season, my Phillies are posting a 10-6 record and are tied for first place in the division with the Mets and the Nationals only a half game down in third place. Made one trade a few games ago to acquire an upgrade at center field as Dalton Pompey struggled mightily at the major league level. Acquired Gregor Blanco from the Cubs from prospect Bubba Starling, but after getting off to a hot start Blanco has now also started to struggle the past few games. James Shields looks to be turning back the clock and is an impressive 2-0 on the season with a 1.57 ERA. Youngster Luis Perdomo has been good and is currently posting a 2.70 ERA but despite that ERA is still 1-2 on the season after losing both loses by only 1 run. Bullpen has seen its up and down moments so far this season but overall has been pretty solid. Edwin Encarnacion has been great so far this season and is currently batting a .302AVG with 5HR and 16RBI. Matt Chapman has been good offensively also and is currently hitting for a .245AVG with 5HR and 15RBI. Andrew Benintendi has been great in the leadoff spot so far this season and is currently batting a .338AVG with 2HR and 4RBI. Tyler Flowers and Jose Iglesias are both struggling offensively but have been great defensively. Flowers is currently 2nd in Gold Glove for the catcher position and Iglesias is in 3rd place for Gold Glove for shortstops. Jason Heyward is in 2nd place currently for Gold Glove for right field. Edwin Encarnacion and Matt Chapman both currently lead the Silver Slugger race for their positions. Elias Diaz, Ben Paulsen, Leody Taveras, and Austin Slater are all destroying Triple A pitching and making their case to be called up to the Majors. Brent Honeywell has looked like the best starting pitcher prospect the Phillies have as of right now sporting a current 2-0 record with a 1.98ERA at Triple A Lehigh Valley for the Iron Pigs. Rumors going around the Phillies are fielding calls for Lance McCullers Jr. but that it would likely take a major haul for a team to acquire him.
