    What's up Armor

Here's my Fantasy Draft Dodgers team from the slider thread. I wanted to play with Kershaw and with him on the Dodgers so I drafted with them and picked him in the first round, here's how the rest unfolded.

mets extend Win streak to 6

The Mets have won 6 in a row, and 8 out of their last 10 games. Sound fundamental baseball has been the key, as the Mets have a +13 run differential at this point in the season. Drew Pomeranz pitched a gem in the first game of the brewers series, en route to a 1-0 victory. Brandon McCarthy struggled in his second start in a row, but the Mets held on for the 5-4 victory. Zach Godley continues to impress as he earned his 3rd win of the season and secured the series sweep. The Mets (11-4) will now play host to the Nationals (6-10). Here’s to hoping for better fortune this go around, as the Nats won the first series between these bitter rivals.

      Pitching matchups
      Game 1: Jon Lester (2-0 1.06) vs James Paxton (1-1 4.76)
      Game 2: Marcus Stroman (0-2 4.26) vs Jake Arrieta (0-3 4.80)
      Game 3: Drew Pomeranz (2-1 3.31) vs Hisashi Iwakuma (1-2 4.50)

      Nationals Lineup
      LF Delino DeShields Jr (R)
      CF Odubel Herrera (L)
      2B Joe Panik (L)
      1B Brandon Moss (L)
      RF Eloy Jimenez (R)
      C Francisco Mejia (S)
      SS Freddy Galvis (S)
      3B Chris Johnson (R)

      Player to watch

Nationals center fielder, Odubel Herrera is batting .396 on the season.

Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

Dove in and did my first official fantasy draft for 2018 using OSFM rosters. I started by doing a few practice runs of the first 10 rounds or so to see when certain players were going so I could develop a strategy of how I wanted to go. I am very excited about this team! I chose the Atlanta Braves because I really like the look of Suntrust and I wanted an NL team since I have a regular franchise with the Yanks. I ended up with the 21st pick and to my surprise Noah Syndegaard fell that low(he went as high as 9th in my simulations). So I had to grab him to be my ace.

Now my goal with this chise was to simulate through the 2018 season, do all of the offseason signings and add FA Bryce Harper to my team since he is probably my favorite player in The Show. I did so, we ended up missing the playoffs finishing 78-84 in 2018. Only made two additions to the MLB roster after the season, one was Harper(10 yr/310 Mil)and the other was a trade for a nasty LH reliever in Josh Hader to strengthen my bullpen. Now I plan to play every single game of the 2019 season. Opening day 2019 roster looks like this:

        Pitchers:

        SP- N Syndegaard
        SP- C Archer
        SP- R Ray
        SP- C.Morton
        SP- T Beede(Rookie)
        LRP- JC Ramirez
        MRP- D Storen
        MRP- R Buchter
        MRP- J Diekman
        SU- J Fields
        SU- J Hader
        CP- C Devenski

        Lineup:

        D Gordon(2B)
        B Buxton(CF)
        B Harper(RF)
        K Davis(LF)
        M Olson(1B)
        E Longoria(3B)
        B Crawford(SS)
        T Barnhart(C)

        Bench:

        Cargo(OF)
        C Rasmus(OF)
        F Galvis(IF)
        D Valencia(1B/3B/OF)
        N Hundley(C)

Team is loaded with power arms and power bats. I have my two speedsters at the top of the lineup, a good mix of veterans with some young studs and a really solid bench. This is a team expecting to win now and setup to be strong for the next few seasons. Let’s goooo!

Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

The Braves opened up the 2019 season by winning the home opener vs the Cardinals 11-4 via 5 HR and 18 hits. Bryce Harper homered in the very first pitch he saw in a Braves uniform and ended up 4 for 5 with 2 HR, 4 RBI and 3 runs scored. Hell of a debut for Harp! Syndegaard was so-so giving up 4 ER over 6.0 inn w/ 6 K for his first W.

Game 2 was a pitchers duel. We took the game 3-1. Archer was brilliant. He was perfect through 7 innings(the longest I have gone on Legend pitching). We had a 3-0 lead going into the 8th. Archers very first pitch of the 8th was a slider to Donaldson that didn’t get low or outside enough and he crushed it. Lost the perfect game, no hitter and shutout in one shot. He finished the 8th with just allowing that 1 hit, no walks and 6 K for his first W. Devenski would get out of bases loaded trouble in the 9th and pick up his first save.

Game 3 the Cards got some revenge with a 10-6 whooping of the Braves for our first L. It wasn’t even that close. They opened up the scoring with a 7 run 4th inning to knock Ray out of the game and hand him his first L and a very inflated ERA to start the year. The game was 10-2 an inning later and then we chipped a few back before it ended. The young LH slugger Matt Olson picked up his first HR of the season.

Game 4 we bounced back with some late inning heroics. Trailing 4-3 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, young Byron Buxton stepped up to the plate with runners on 2nd and 3rd. They had a LH reliever in and a base open with Harper on deck. They decided to go after Buxton, despite having gone 3 for 3 in the game including a solo HR. The very first pitch was a hanging slider and Buxton crushed a no doubter into the seats in left-center for the go ahead HR, his second of the game. Morton picked up the W going 7, 4 R, 3 ER, 7 K and Hader and Devenski were perfect for the last 6 outs. Davis(2) and Crawford(1) homered as well.

Great start to the year. Next up is two more at home vs the Orioles before going on the road for 3 at CitiField vs the Mets.

Yes. At least in my experience in 2 different drafts. I was not taking prospects early, and just simming through a couple months, my teams have dominated. Which is not what I've expereinced in past fantasy draft franchises.

I've just started a fantasy draft, I have the number 10 overall pick. I've made all CP into RP. I'm playing as my hometown Seattle Mariners. I've only done 2 rounds so far because now I'm watching the Mariners game lol going to finish when game is over. But here's my first 2 picks.....

              RF Aaron Judge
              3B Miguel Sano

I think I'm off to pretty good start. Next couple picks will be SP

Looks pretty good. Only thing i see missing really is a real young MLB ready offensive player or pitcher. That being said, Robbie ray is a beast, and I love Thames

                    9 in a row

The Mets continued their winning streak, as they swept the nationals. Game one of the series, the bats showed up big time for Lester, as we cruised to a 15-3 victory. Game two, an extra innings affair and a 4-3 victory. Marcus Stroman pitches better, but as still unable to secure his first win of the young season. In game 3, Drew Pomeranz was lights out as usual, and the Mets took advantage of the Nats pen in the 8th en route to a 6-1 victory.

                    Next up

The Mets (14-4) travel down south to Atlanta (10-8) as they start and 11 day, 10 game road trip. Here’s a look at the pitching matchups for this 4 game series:

                    Game 1: Brandon McCarthy (1-1 7.94) vs Matt Shoemaker (2-1 5.40)
                    Game 2: Zack Godley (3-0 2.95) vs Ben Lively (2-0 2.75)
                    Game 3: Jon Lester (3-0 1.44) vs Lance McCullers Jr. (1-1 2.10)
Game 4: Marcus Stroman (0-2 3.55) vs TBD

                    Braves Lineup
                    CF Ender Inciarte (L)
                    RF Stephen Piscotty (R)
                    SS Carlos Correa (R)
                    1B Justin Smoak (S)
                    3B Jeff Gyorko (R)
                    C Brian McCann (L)
                    2B Starlin Castro (R)
                    LF Michael Taylor (R)

                    Bench
                    C Sandy León (S)
                    3B David Wright (R)
                    CF Billy Burns (S)
                    LF Travis Jankowski (L)

                    Three keys
1: Clutch Pitching / Hitting: The Mets have continued to come through in games decided by two or less runs. If they keep it, they have a chance to win every night.
2: Neutralize Braves 3-5: Correa, Smoak & Gyorko are tearing the cover off of the ball. It will be difficult to silence their bats as the Braves boast one of the deeper lineups in the game.
3: Keep it in the park: Stroman and McCarthy have been prone to get burned by the HR this year. Make them earn it!

The Minnesota Twins entered the Universal Draft with a clear plan in mind; secure talent on both sides of the plate, and both sides of the mound. And that’s precisely what they did with their first four selections.

Speaking at #8 in the first round, Minnesota claimed all-star third baseman and former Colorado Rockies’ Nolan Arenado, who many considered a legitimate option for the Blue Jays at #1. At only 26 years old, Arenado already shows an impressive resume that includes three all-star selections, three silver slugging awards, and five consecutive gold gloves at third base. Coming off three 130+ RBI seasons in which he averaged 40 HRs and maintained a .297 batting average, Arenado will be asked to carry the offense as in the three-hole…but he’s not gonna be alone.

With their 2nd round selection, the Minnesota Twins added the perfect complement to Arenado in Chicago Cubs’ first baseman Anthony Rizzo. The World Series champion and three times all-star is coming off three consecutive seasons of 30+ HRs and 100+ RBIs, and is only one year removed from gold glove and silver slugging honors.

Rizzo and Arenado complement each others so well, we just had to do it. With them in the line-up, we have contact and power on both sides of the plate, and two of the best defender in the game playing hot corners. We feel very good about our picks, especially considering both players are still under 30, and could be the foundation of our team for years to come.

The Twins batting line-up became even scarier a few rounds later, when the team added power slugger Jose Abreu in the 8th round to serve as DH.

Considering the picks invested on offense, the Twins did pretty good on the mound as well, bringing in a pair of 26-year old in Carlos Martinez and Robbie Ray, with their 3rd and 4th round selections. Veteran Felix Hernandez was added to mix later on, with the team’s 12th round selection. Though they waiting a lot longer to add some arms to the bullpen than most of the other teams did, the general manager feels comfortable with the crew he’ll be starting the season with, that highlights Kelvin Herrera as a setup man and Arodys Vizcaino as the team’s closer.

Here’s the full 40-man roster for the Minnesota Twins this season:

The Mets winning streak ended thanks to the bats going cold in a pitching duel between Lester and McCullers. The Mets bounced back and won the final game of the series to give Marcus Stroman his first victory of the season.

                            May 1st Update

The Mets got out of the gate ROLLING, as they finished up April with a 21-7 record. If not for the first game of the final series of the month, they may have ended up with a "perfect" month. Unfortunately, after Scott Kingery lead off the inning with a 10 pitch at bat resulting in a home run, a big injury occurred. Brett Gardner got on base with a single, and then broke his ankle on a pick-off attempt. Gardner is expected to be out for 2-3 months. Never the less, heres a look at the Mets stats through the first month of the season:

                            Big Stories
                            • 1: Rookie 2nd Baseman, Scott Kingery, has taken the league by storm! Kingery is leading the league in batting average, has shown a bit of power, and earned Rookie of the Month for April.
                            • 2: Brett Gardner's injury shook up the clubhouse. Losing Gardner for 2-3 months will be rough, as Gardner provided veteran presence, to go along with solid defense. CF Steven Duggar has been called up and will play CF against righties, as Austin Jackson will continue to serve as the 4th outfielder and take the majority of at bats against lefties.
                            • 3: Pitching Staff - The pitching staff has been mostly lights out. The top 3 starters have been as advertised. #4 Starter, Brandon McCarthy is on a short list. The biggest story of the month may very well be Zack Godley and his 5-0 performance. Godley will look to parlay his early season success into a breakout season. The bullpen has performed as expected, outside of Jim Johnson. There are rumblings that Johnson will be put through waivers soon, as there are members of the front office, as well as the fan base that want Matt Harvey in the pen.

Re: Official MLB The Show 18 Fantasy Draft Franchise Progress Thread

I have a bit of a different fantasy draft approach, but find it pretty enjoyable.

It all started in Madden 13, I think. A friend and I were going to do an online franchise. We decided we would do a fantasy draft, but in order to really shake things up and / or implement more of a challenge, we each got to make our first pick (so our "cornerstone" player), but then the rest of the fantasy draft was simmed, and who you got was who you started with. It really added an element of surprise, it was fun loading up your roster after the draft was simmed to see who you ended up with, beginning to develop the strategies on how and where to improve the team, etc.

Anyway - I used this same process in MLB 16. Picked the Indians (as I always do, fave team and all), picked Kluber, simmed the rest. Played / simmed through about 5 seasons of that one (simmed a couple because I wanted to be able to eventually see some of my scouted / drafted players in the majors, knew that wouldn't happen if I tried to play every game every year). Took a break last year to give Diamond Dynasty an honest try (fun enough, but I don't like playing against others online and conquest felt stale after completing it once). This year, started fresh as I didn't like some of the moves I'd made in the previous franchise (did a lot of free agent signing and trading, as opposed to really building the team much.) 25 games in now and really enjoying it again.

What I like about this is, I end up with players that I might not otherwise pick on my own, and, wind up with unique challenges that wouldn't be present if I were able to strategize and pick my team, so I really have to work on "fixing" the weak areas I end up with. For instance, in this sim, I ended up with some decent hitters but fielding is pretty weak, and I have basically zero team speed outside of Charlie Blackmon. He's good in the outfield and fast, but Adam Duvall and Josh Reddick are not terribly fast and it ends up costing me some hits in the gap. Odor at second is a good hitter but a lot of little hits trickle through the middle because he doesn't seem to have very good range. The bullpen is pretty suspect and has cost me a few games already.

Anyway - just thought I'd share for those that might be looking for something new and different.

The Atlanta Braves have finished April at 18-11, 3.5 games out of 1st in the NL East(Phillies 22-8, best in MLB). Are offense has been absolutely dominant. We are tops or close to it in almost every category. Pitching we have been middle of the road. We have had a lot of close games, going 6-7 in games decided by 1 run. Hopefully we can improve on that if we want to take out the Phils for 1st place.

                                Pitching
Syndegaard, Archer and Morton have combined for a 12-1 record in 17 starts all with sub 3.50 ERAs. Ray has been a huge dissapointment as my #3 starter starting 0-4 with a 8.82 ERA. Bullpen has been great with the backend combo of Fields, Hader and Devenski leading the way. Devenski has saved 8/9 and posted a 1.50 ERA.

                                Position Players

Led by way too early in the season MVP candidate Bryce Harper who was signed to the monster deal in the offseason, our offense has been unbelievable so far. Harper, the NL player of the month for April, has hit .392 with 16 HR and 46 RBI! He also leads the league in runs(29), doubles(14), slugging(.908), OPS(1.339) and WAR(3.1).

                                Other notables: Gordon .398 Avg, 16 SB, Buxton 5 3B, 13 SB, GG caliber defense, Davis .325, 14 HR, 35 RBI, Olson .337 8 HR, 22 RBI.

Biggest disappointments so far has been Longoria .203 avg, but decent power numbers and the catcher position combining for an under .200 avg 1 HR and 4 RBI. Bench play has been great led by Cargo, Galvis and Valencia who have all been clutch in PH situations as well as in random starts to five guys a rest.

We've been lucky as far as injuries go so far(knock on wood). We've only lost Morton(missed 1 start), Gordon(missed 2.5 games) and a few minor leaguers so far.

Very excited to play out this season as this team has been a ton of fun so far, maybe one of my favorite teams I've ever put together!
