Half way through spring training things are starting to shake out. The Cubs now have a problem and that is what to do with Chatwood. As a start so far through spring training he is 3-0 with a 1.95 ERA best on the team so far.

The Cubs may look to dangle either Quintana or Hendricks out for trade bait and keep Chatwood in the rotation. Some surprises have been the dominance of roster invitee Tim Collins and bullpen prospect Randy Rosario. Both have looked sharp out of the pen against both lefties and righties.

Almora has struggled so far this spring. With Happ tearing the cover off the ball, it may force the Cubs to option Almora to triple A for some extra work.

Stay tune to see how everything shakes out throughout the rest of the spring.

Started a braves franchise, traded Donaldson for Xander Boegaerts and Swanson for Simmons, moved Xander to 3rd base. Not realistic, or logical really but I wanted an infield of Netherlands Antilles' players mostly lol. Signed Craig Kimbrel.

Started off on fire 20-6 tied for the best record in the majors, everyone was contributing, finding ways to win.

Now I'm on a three game losing streak, three runs total in the three games.

Teams a lot of fun to play with, bunch of guys with solid contact but not a ton of power. So a lot of station to station ball, manufacturing runs. Bull pen is deep with lots of lefties so I can really play matchups.

Want to trade for jurikson profar, but not sure the pieces to move.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Decided to start a franchise that could be a multi-year save which is a rebuild but I want to play quite a lot of games and experience how bad the team was to the team I’ve built.

I went with the Blue Jays. With the prospect of Baby Vlad and Bo for years to come and some other nice young pieces and they are always a team I’ve kept my eye on along with the cubs being a international fan myself they have that feel to them being the only team outside the US and I like the fan support they get.

I feel like there’s a good mix of young talent waiting in the wings and veterans that can be flipped at the deadline to a contender e.g Smoak, Stroman, Giles.

Our season opener was a heartbreaker for the young Jays, With it looking like being a low scoring pitchers duel going into the 6th with the Tigers leading 2-1 with ace Michael Fulmer on the mound Teoscar Hernandez up to bat with Rowdy Tellez on 1st 0-0 count, 1st pitch slider 2 run shot to put the Jays 3-2 up and knocking Fulmer of the mound going into the 7th and both clubs looking the bullpen for the last 3 innings. Adam Libertore (signed before the start of the season for the Jays) comes out the pen for the Jays and ****s the bed, 3 BB, 1 hit and 2 ER he would last just 18 pitches and was pulled for Tim Mayza to get the Jays out of the inning at 4-3 Tigers.

The Tigers call on Victor Alcantara, Bottom of the 8th, Tellez leading off with a solo shot, In the 2 hole Justin Smoak, 422ft 2nd deck, back to back jacks and it’s 5-4 Jays and looking like we could start the season off strong.

We call on Ken Giles to close the door, strikes out Castellanos, gives up a double to Cristin Stewart, Niko Goodrum to the plate, squares up a 99 mph 4 seamer into the left center field gap, Goodrum scores, Giles blows the save on back to back 1 out doubles.

Clayton Richard out of the pen for the 10th and the 11th, Gets out of the 10th but again our bullpen ****s the bed, Richard gives up a hit, intentionally walks Miggy (who homered in the 1st) walks Jordy Mercer and gives up a bloop single to John Hicks. He gets another out eventually but we keep him in the game and a 2-2 slider gets away from Reese McGuire, 1 run scores 7-5, we finally pull him and go deeper into the pen and Joe Biagini comes in. First pitch curveball, gets away from McGuire again, Another run scores!! Back to back wild pitches and it’s 8-5 Tigers.

Joe Jiminez comes in for the Tigers, shuts the door and we lose 8-5 in an 11 inning opening day thriller at Rogers Centre.

If the first game of this franchise is anything to go by I’m going to enjoy the drama of this franchise!

Only 4 teams are ranked in the top half of the league so it stands to reason that if you’re the Yankees, Red Sox, Astros, or Indians that you’re going to dominate most of the other teams.

Yep. I did the same. I tried HOF (batting) for the first month of the season. Barley hit any home runs, and almost everyone's batting average was below .250. Couldn't handle it anymore, and went back to all star. I rather have fun than to be frustrated.

Cards avoid sweep, beat Marlins 9-2

Cardinals avoided the sweep in Miami by beating the Marlins 9-2 on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals jumped on the Marlins in the first behind a 2 run homerun from Yairo Munoz. He would later add an RBI single, followed by another 2 run homerun. Munoz ended the day 3 for 3 with 2 HR and 5 RBI. Matt Carpenter wasn't going to be outdone as he launched a grand slam in the 7th to put the game out of reach.

Drew Harrington (4-0) was good, again, in his 4th start of the year going 6 innings and yielding 2 runs on 7 hits. He only managed 3 strikeouts but did only allow 1 free pass. Dean Kiekhefer got the 3 inning save by closing out the game striking out 7 of the 9 hitters he faced. Kiekhefer got an unofficial save by saving the bullpen who has been overworked for the last week or so.

The Cardinals return home with a 4 game series with the Mets.

            ROSTER MOVES

Miles Mikolas was activated off the 10 Day IL yesterday, but was placed on Optional Waivers as the Cardinals look to move him to Memphis. It was either Mikolas or Luke Weaver the Cardinals were going to have to pass through waivers and chose the 32 year old over Weaver. Weaver has made one start for the Cardinals this year but was impressive. Mikolas only pitched 2 innings before leaving the game due to injury.

Troy Tulowitzki was also activated off the 10 Day IL. His activation meant a send down for struggling Paul DeJong. DeJong will go to Memphis to try to once again find his swing. DeJong struggled last year and was optioned down for about a month, recalled and played beautifully back in St.Louis. The Cardinals are hoping for a repeat this year. DeJong will play 3rd in Memphis, as Samuel Franco is the everyday SS there.

Juan Fabregas is scheduled to be activated off the 10 Day IL this week and the Cardinals will have a decision to make. They could move one of three players; Tommy Pham (who they've discussed trading), Kyle Waldrop (who was recalled for injury but is out of options), or Oscar Mercado who is also out of options.

At this time the front office has suggested that Mercado would be the one moved despite him being younger, having a higher ceiling, and being a better defender than Waldrop. The Cardinals are willing to lose Mercado to waivers moreso than Waldrop. The thought is that Pham isn't moving anytime soon as Corey Ray (his thought to be replacement) has fallen into a slump. The plan as of now is to platoon both Pham and Ray in right field for the week or so until the start of June.

The Cardinals could be forced to make a decision on the struggling Alex Reyes sooner rather than later. Reyes is 3-3 this year but his ERA is near 7 (6.84 to be exact) and his walk to strikeout ratio is near 1:1. (31 strikeouts - 28 walks)

Reyes was brilliant last year for St.Louis and was signed to a 4 year deal in the offseason. But since getting that contract, Reyes has been a shell of his 2021 self. He is out of options so sending him to Memphis to work on his mechanics is a no go as he will most likely not clear waivers. There is thought to move him to the bullpen but then who do you move from there, or do you play with a short bench? We will see what they do.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Still trucking along in 2025 with my Cubs....Currently sitting at 32-28 and 3.5 out of first. It dawned on me that I really never have told the back story of my franchise that goes back to MLB14.

My franchise started off on MLB 14 with a 200 prospect roster file. I picked my favorite team the Cubs and since the 2014 team wasnt the most stellar collection of MLB talent I "gave" myself Bryce Harper. I always really liked Bryce and it was really fun having him as my center piece. Now, I knew the my Cubs had some prospects but at the time I started it was primarily Javy, KB, Almora Jr and first year Rizzo. Also at that time, I was still stuck in my mindset as a Cubs fan where most of our big time prospects really didn't pan out. So many Felix Pie's and Josh Vitters That's why I wanted Bryce....I wanted a pretty much can't miss prospect that was 20 years old. I had failed to mention that I had Bryce here and it dawned on me because he just hit his 500th homerun and they've all been mine with the exception of his real life 2012 and 2013 years.

I remember Harper was an 80 overall my first year and KB was a 72 overall AAA player. This 2 have blossomed into HOFer and with the addition of my 2016 draft pick Morgan Duran have given me the Dynasty I have.

The biggest regret I had on my franchise was not really getting to enjoy Javy Baez. I ended up trading him for prospects in 2018. He's a stud but I could swing his projected salary to go along with Harper, KB and Duran. I had it figured out that I could comfortably swing 3 27+ mil guys and those were the guys I chose. Rizzo hung on until 2021 before departing.

I’ve seen this topic briefly touched on somewhere here but cannot find it so forgive the question if it’s been asked: Is there any sort of penalty for editing a player’s primary and/or secondary position?

I think I found my answer. Through some googling and brief test it doesn’t seem to affect attributes but it looks like it may affect progression from what I’ve read.

MLB the Show 19 - New York Yankees Franchise

Off to a bit of a slow start in Spring Training as the Yankees drop their first 4 in a row, before rebounding against the Tigers to get their first win.

Andujar, Tulowitzki, and Stanton are hitting, but noone else is. Bird is 0-for-spring and Voit is 1 for 10 in a very uninspiring first base battle. Thairo Estrada (#27 prospect) has made some flashy plays at second base which is encouraging.

Pitching staff is getting hit hard as well, but I’m not so worried. Chapman hasn’t been able to get anyone out, giving up 6 runs in 2 innings and blowing a save in the process. Betances on the other hand, has struck out 6 of the 8 batters he’s faced. Still too early for him to threaten for the closer spot but hey ... who knows.

The battle for 5th starter/swingman looks like it’ll be tight. Loaisiga, German, and Cessa have all been lights out in 4-5 innings each so far. German even picked up a save in emergency extra-innings duty against Detroit. The chaos has opened the door for Chance Adams (#14 prospect) to get a lot of work in the early days of Spring Training. He’s allowed a single run in 3.1 innings and will get the nod to start against the Pirates on the 28th.

The first week of spring is always chaotic. Position players all play half a game (4.5 innings each) as I try to get a look at everyone in various defensive positions. This also serves to minimize the risk of injury to my big stars.

Starters each get 4 starts, limited to 3 innings / 50 pitches, 4 innings / 75 pitches, 5 innings / 90 pitches, and 6 innings / 100 pitches respectively. I’m rolling with a 7-man rotation but will have to sit someone down when CC comes off the IL.

Sitting at 34-30 the day after the draft. I picked up an 87 and 84 potential IF and SP with my first 2 picks.

KB is sitting at .260 with 18 HRs and 42 knocked in. Duran is at .263 with 17 Hrs and 50 rbis and Harper is having an MVP caliper season with a .317 ave 22 Hrs and 57 rbis. He’s 32 now and I thought I was starting to see some decline last year as his ave fell to .265 but he still hit 35 Hrs 110 RBI’s. I’ve got more than enough fire power to run away with my 11th division but I just can’t seem to get the starting pitching squared away.

CHICAGO (OS) -- Anthony Rizzo helped turn an amazing double play Friday afternoon in the Cubs 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals, but suffered would could possibly be a season-ending injury in the process. After a diving stop and a throw to second to start a 3-6-1 double play, the Cubs slugger was in noticeable pain, grabbing his right ankle.

Skipper Joe Maddon and the rest of the Cubs were hoping for some good news following and MRI but the initial diagnosis is that of a dislocated ankle. An injury that could easily sideline the three-time All-Star for most, if not all of 2019.

"You never want to see anyone go down," said friend and teammate Kris Bryant. "It's especially hard when it happens to a guy that's kind of the heart and soul of the team." Rizzo, 29, said that he felt a pop after making the diving grab but was still able to make the throw to shortstop.

For Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein, the question will certainly be what to do to fill the void left be Rizzo's injury. A call has already been made to long-time journeyman Taylor Davis, who will join the team tomorrow, but Epstein and the Cubs know that a long-term solution needs to be found, and relatively quickly.

The Cubs 15-15 record currently has them in a tie for first place with the Milwaukee Brewers (17-17) in the NL Central division. But Epstein knows that the division is talented and will require some offensive production at first base is the Cubs hope to make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year in 2019.

"We're going to look at all options," stated Epstein. "You always have to look at what's best for the team now and into the future. We like what we've done the last couple years through the draft and we know we'll have some decisions to make moving forward. The main thing is, we can't panic. Things like this, unfortunately happen and we feel like we've built a team that can withstand injuries."

Rizzo, who is in his eighth season with the Chicago Cubs had played in no fewer than 140 games since 2013. And while the usually-durable slugger is disappointed that he'll be sidelined for some time, he's optimistic about the team and his eventual return.

"You look at our team top to bottom and I think we're as talented as any club out there," said Rizzo. "I think back to 2016, the year we won the World Series. Kyle [Schwarber] went down within the first week of the season and missed the entire year, but came back in the World Series and made a difference. That gives me a lot of confidence. I've battled enough adversity in my life and I can battle through this."

In 2008 Rizzo was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and underwent six months of chemotherapy. And after battling back from cancer, it's obvious that an injury won't keep the Cubs star from coming back.

In regards to at least a temporary replacement, there are rumors circulating just a day after the injury that the Cubs could pursue Kansas City Royals first baseman, Lucas Duda. The left-handed power hitting Duda is in the final year of his contract and would replace at least some of the power that will certainly be lost with the injury to Rizzo.

On a bright note for the Cubs, infielder Addison Russell made his debut with Triple-A Iowa Friday afternoon and went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in. Russell, who was suspended at the end of last season for violating the league's domestic abuse policy is expected to spend some time at second base in Iowa, and if all goes well could find himself back with the Cubs sooner rather than later.

Well, team was so happy with a four game winning streak they painted my car. I didn’t ask them, nor was pink spray paint my first choice, but it was the sentiment, I guess.

Phils and Mets have sort of stunk it up recently allowing the Braves to move into first place, but this division is still up for grabs with the Marlins in last place, but only 4.5 out.

Johan Camargo and Greg Butler sent down. Shelby Robinson brought up and hit one out in his first plate appearance. Mike Will still hitting well even though his attributes are just quite average 42/51/56/65. Hit his team leading twelfth home run after 50 games.

Enjoying HOF/HOF, power up +1 and pitch speed at -2. May go back to strictly default on the sliders for the next five games to see how it feels.

                          Well, off to Earl Sheibs.

So I am in my 2075 season and the Cardinals are defending their World Title after beating Tampa in a stunning 7 game series where each game was decided by 1 run, including 3 extra inning games and 2 walkoffs (one won by each team)

Cards made two trades in spring training.

One was trading veteran bullpen arms LHP Nicky Fuller and LHP Soloman Leon to Seattle for 20 year old LHP Robert Gallagher and 19 year old 1B prospect Kameron Boucher.

The day before the season opens, Cards trade 2B Bobby Sands, SS Billy Kimble, and LF Brandon Tavarez to Oakland for 23 year old SS Russ Deutscher. Duetscher, who was up with Oakland back in 2073 and had 6 ABs was off the 40 man roster due to Oakland's depth in the IF and their free agent signing of Hector Feliz.

Cards current starting lineup looks like such:

Cards trade Tavares to the Red Sox for pitching prospects

The Cardinals and the Red Sox have made a trade sending Oscar Tavares (buried in AA) to the Red Sox for two relief pitching prospects.

Tavares wasn't happy with his role and the Red Sox were looking for outfield help after Benintendi went on the IL for a lengthy stay, so the deal was made. The Cards and Sox had discussed Pham but the Cardinals have removed him from trade discussions.

The Cardinals have been looking to re-tool their relief pitching as it has been a struggle within the organization.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

This is where I really miss having a Vita version of The Show: have a 9-day work trip starting tomorrow, so my Mets franchise will sit idle for a bit.
