    CALIFORNIA DREAMIN

After a back and forth series that saw each team dominate at points, and both go toe to toe in tight spots, it all came down to this dramatic Game 5! And it would not disappoint! Tightly contested game with great pitching and clutch dramatic at bats!

SF would get on the board in the top of the first with an RBI single from Longoria!

    IMG_0674.jpg

    IMG_0675.jpg

Then in the bottom of the third the Dodgers would get some offense rolling adding 1 off a sac fly from Snider then Piazza singled in Reese from second! 2-1 Dodgers!

    IMG_0681.jpg

But top of the 4th with 2 outs Posey would reach first on a throwing error by Turner, then score when Kemp layed out trying to rob Pillar of a hit and it got by him rolling all the way to the wall, turning it into a triple! Tied up at 2-2!

    IMG_0683.jpg

Top of the 5th Irvin ripped a double to left center, then Mays singles him home giving the Giants a 3-2 lead!

Garvey would tie it back up in the bottom sixth with an RBI single scoring Piazza! 3-3

Then bottom of the ninth with 2 out, Pee Wee Reese hits the game winning walk off to deep center! Dodgers win 4-3 and move on to face Chicago in the NLCS!

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

      Spring Training is here

2023 Spring Training is here. The Cardinals will look to bounce back after missing the playoffs last year for the first time in 6 years.

The Cardinals have some questions heading into Spring, but their everyday lineup is pretty much set so long as no injuries occur. Who will be on the bench is where the first of questions remains:

Catcher: Who will be Carson Kelly's backup? It will be either between Andrew Knizner or Devon Snow. The Cardinals only brought 3 catchers to the spring, so one of those two will win the job. Knizner played some last year and appears to have the upper hand due to experience, but Snow is probably the more rounded of the two, especially defensively.

Infield: The Cardinals know who will start with Wisdom at 3rd, Albies at SS, Wong at 2nd, and McKay at 1B. Who will be their backups, well that remains to be determined this Spring. Greg Garcia, Bryce Denton, Yairo Munoz, and Paul DeJong appear to be the 4 in the most serious of contention. Samuel Franco and Evan Mendoza were brought to Spring Training as well, but its expected to just be for getting a look at them.

Outfield: Again, the starters are known with Fabregas in LF, Bader in CF, and Adell in RF. Who will be the backups will be determined during Spring Training. Oscar Mercado is expected to be one of the backups as he did a good job in that role last year. The other will be between C.J. McElroy, Jabari Blash, Dylan Carlson, and Charlie Tilson.

The Cardinals didn't make any significant changes to their starting pitching staff, but the bullpen was flooded with arms.

Starting Pitching: Three of the starters are known, in Michael Wacha, Carlos Martinez, and Jack Flaherty. Luke Weaver is expected to be the #4 starter again after having a solid season in that spot last year. The 5th starter will be between Kyle Funkhouser, Austin Gomber, Drew Harrington, and Junior Fernandez.

Bullpen: This is where the Cardinals did most of their adding last year. They flooded the bullpen with arms signing the likes of Joe Kelly, Sam Freeman, Pedro Baez, and Andrew Miller. And that will be what the Cards select from this spring along with Corey Littrell and Zack Burdi. The only known locks in the bullpen are Dean Kiekhefer, Jordan Hicks, Roberto Osuna, and Trevor Rosenthal. The other 3 spots are up for grabs.

If the Cardinals can find a solid bullpen and get great production from their #4 and #5 starters in the rotation, then they have to be considered a favorite to get back to the postseason in 2023. The NL Central is still tough, with the Cubs, Pirates, and Reds all getting better after making the postseason last year, and the Brewers' rebuilding project may be a year ahead of schedule where they may not contend for the postseason, but they could be a close to .500 ball club this year.

It will be interesting to see how the spring shakes out and what the roster is come opening day, in about 4 weeks.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Ran a fantasy draft yesterday for fun, played the first 30 or so rounds then let the CPU sim the rest. Had a pretty good draft so I’m going to roll with it and see how far I can take this franchise.
I had the 11th pick. Ended up grabbing a bunch of Yankees (Judge and Chapman were my first and 2nd picks). Here is the team in Spring Training:

        SP Miles Mikolas
        SP Masahiro Tanaka
        SP Chris Archer
        SP Tyler Anderson
        SP Jacob Nix
        SP Jordan Zimmerman
        SP Chris Heston

        CP Aroldis Chapman
        RP Zack Britton
        RP Chad Green
        RP AJ Ramos
        RP Seth Maness
        RP Richard Bleier
        RP Trevor May

        C Welington Castillo
        1B Joey Gallo
        2B Dee Gordon
        SS Jorge Polanco
        3B Asdrubal Cabrera
        LF Corey Dickerson
        CF George Springer
        RF Aaron Judge
        DH Eric Thames

        Bench/Platoon Options:
        C Carson Kelly
        C Devin Mesoraco
        2B Ryan Schimpf
        SS Nick Ahmed
        3B Matt Duffy
        OF/IF Leury Garcia

I nabbed 2 A prospects in Griffin Canning and Keston Hiura. Gallo also has A potential at age 25 so he and Judge are the core that should produce a ton of home runs. I always grab Schimpf in fantasy drafts .... he has sick power and is deadly if you’re not simming. Team was ranked #1 after the draft thanks to the power focus. Back of the bullpen should be great and the rotation should be good enough.

          Well, half the season done:

46-46 second place 5 games behind the stinking Phillies.

          Other first place teams are:

          Cubs
          Dodgers
          Rockies/Reds/Brewers/ top WC teams
          Rays
          Twins
          Athletics
          Mariners/Astros/Redsox top WC teams

Josh Tomlin is my only pitcher to make the AS game as a RP.
Ozzie Albies (.294/15 hrs/49 RBI) and Acuna (.332/21 HR/61 RBI) made the team.

Joel Benjamin leads the team with 9 wins
He also leads the team with 6 losses
Acuna and Donaldson have 21 HR each

Keuchel is 1-1 since coming aboard.
          24.2 innings pitched/34 hits
          WHIP of 1.50
25Ks to 3 walks, so he does put the ball in play

So, gonna play the AS game, basically take a break and see what real life roster moves are made before I begin the 2nd half of the season. Still in it.

oK, so we made it through the dog days of summer. Seems to me like some other teams that seemed to have their divisions on lockdown or teams that thought they were out of it are kinda back in things going into the final stretch of the season.

Will your favorite team be in it when all is said and done?

first off let me say that I am just over a month out from having had open heart surgery and am under strict orders to avoid stress as much as I can.

True sim has never been my style. I have been playing baseball video games going all the way back to the Atari back in the early '80s. The first game I remember being able to build super teams and completely dominate the CPU was Sierra's Front Page Sports Baseball Pro 96.

I just love beating the hell out of teams. If I want realism I will just watch the real sport on tv or listen to it on the radio. just saying.

I've been playing this series since 08. As the game has progressed and gotten harder each year the lower level I have been playing on.

In 08, I was all the way up to Hall of fame. 09 Al-Star, in 10 or 11 or both I was out of the game due to having my PS stolen and not having the money to replace it.

there have been a couple of years that the game was so unplayable due to not being able to hit that I didn't even play. I have played this series consistently since 15.

I will admit I have dabbled in higher difficulties over that time. With and without the use of sliders. however not for any real length of time. I am a self-admitted quitter when things get too hard.

So I have just relegated myself to playing on Rookie default. I just find it fun and relaxing. Most people find challenges fun and exciting. I myself find it stressful and agitating.

As my mother said my entire life... too each their own...

Oh, one last thing, sliders are no fix for me... I get slideritits probably worse than anyone on the planet...

Oh, one more thing... the proudest moment of my life was on the sega genesis. On the Triple Play game, I hit I kid you not 12 home runs in one game with Jose Canseco... I wish I could replicate that today!!!

15 games in and the Seattle Mariners are having a very up down season. Lots of huge wins, lots of huge losses, not much in the middle. We started like a house on fire, winning 4 of our first 5, only to then lose 8 of the next 10. This randomness was illustrated by the two wins in that stretch being via 20-8 and 14-2 scorelines.

The pitching has been a bit of a disaster, as we possibly might have expected, with only really King Felix escaping with any credit, Marco Gonzales and his 4.6 ERA is our second best starter so far. The bullpen has had some slightly less terrible performers, but it's a very small sample size!

Hitting is where the teams joy has come from, with Kyle Seager, Mitch "one ball" Haniger and Daniel Vogelbach all finding their power strokes early, with 20 homers between them in the first 15 games. Backup catcher Tom Murphy has also gotten off to a bizarrely powerful start as well with 5 homers in his 20 at bats. Contact hitters Ichiro and Dee Gordon have rolled back the years, both hitting over .350 to start the year, with Gordon threatening to make himself tradable if he keeps this up.

But where there is feast, there is also famine. omar Narvaez has had a torrid start, hitting under .100 so far, while J.P Crawford, Mallex Smith and Encarnacions replacement Jose Bautista haven't faired much better. The real standout though is Domingo Santana, our 4 hitter, who has struggled along at the plate, but really stood out for his genuinely appalling defence in left field. He's not considered a bad fielder, but he is off to an awful start, missing balls, taking bad routes, letting things roll under his glove and generally just doing everything possible to help the other team score runs.

Anyway, it looks like being a long season if the pitching doesn't improve, as the offence has been unsustainably good and that still hasn't been enough to win many games.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

When to carry over? So I am finishing up the 2019 season on the show 18. I plan on carrying over after this season. With contract extensions in the show 19 I would like to go through the offseason on it. When is the best time to carry over? I usually hear the best time is after the offseason before you advance to the regular season. Any thoughts?

You can advance at any time. I've always preferred to do the offseason in the current version and then switching over when that is finished, but there is no set rule.

As for contract extensions, you won't miss those in the offseason if you decide to go thru the offseason in '18. Contract extensions only occur during Spring Training and the Trade Prep/Deadline Phase during the season.

                          No problem man.

I will say this, as someone who played the hell out of '18 and just finished going through the offseason in '19, I would recommend going through the offseason in '19 as the CPU roster management is a lot better.

Just remember when you carryover, you'll lose those players who are no longer in baseball, so they will become fake named players with appearance changes. Their attributes will all stay the same.

                          Coaches will disappear as well.

EDIT: Here's a link to a thread that lists the players that could potentially be missing in '19 that were in '18

Cardinals get first win of spring with walkoff homerun

After starting Spring Training 0-2, the Cardinals got their first win of the spring thanks to a walkoff homerun by Evan Mendoza against the Tigers.

The Cardinals trailed 4-1 heading into the 9th inning when Samuel Franco hit a 3 run bomb to tie the game at 4. In the top of the 10th, Joe Kelly pitched another perfect inning striking out 2 of the 3 he faced. In the bottom of the 10th, Bryce Denton walked, Jabari Blash struck out, Yairo Munoz singled, and then Evan Mendoza launched a 3 run homerun on the first pitch he saw to give the Cardinals the walkoff victory.

The Cardinals are back in action to face the Nationals who shut them out 2 days ago, in route to a 3-0 win.

                              Cardinals outright Jabari Blash

The Cardinals have outrighted outfielder Jabari Blash. Blash was picked up on waivers last season, but struggled in his time in St.Louis when rosters expanded in September, and is now 0 for 10 this Spring with 7 strikeouts. Blash even struggled in his time in Memphis last year after he was acquired.

This will drop the Cardinals 40 man roster to 39 players.

Its unclear if the Cardinals will keep Blash at Memphis or Springfield or if they will fully cut ties with the 31 year old.

Thats good to know about the 19 CPU roster management. I may go ahead and carryover after the world series instead of going through the offseason on 18 again.
