Tigers Use Longball to Complete Comeback
Twins fall in extras in Detroit

    May 13, 2020
Detroit--- Niko Goodrum had been in a season-long slump, hitting .167 entering the game, but a three-for-five night, including a walk-off homerun on the first pitch of the eleventh, may have righted the ship as the Detroit Tigers came back and defeated the Minnesota Twins 6-5 in eleven innings on Sunday Thursday afternoon.

“It has not been a fun start to the year for me,” commented an excited Goodrum. “I have been slumping and letting my team down, so this feels really, really good right now.”

Goodrum also homered in the seventh to bring the Tigers within one run at 5-4, one run in which they would score off Twins closer Taylor Rogers in the ninth to send it to extras.

The Tigers homered five times in all, all five of which were of the solo type. Jonathan Schoop hit two more homeruns and Victor Reyes also contributed to the power surge.

As for the Twins, Jake Odorizzi threw a quality game over six innings and left with the lead. He allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

The Twins got homeruns from Nelson Cruz and Josh Donaldson in the contest.

The Twins will travel to Cleveland for a three-game weekend series with the division-leading Indians. Homer Bailey (6-1, 2.89) will go for win number seven for Minnesota and Cleveland will send out Mike Clevinger (1-0, 2.92) for his third start of the year. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.

      Bailey Pitches Twins Past Tribe
Veteran righty moves to 7-1 on the year

      May 14, 2020
Cleveland--- Homer Bailey continues to impress in his first season in a Minnesota Twins uniform. The veteran right hander improved to 7-1 on the year as the Twins knocked off the Cleveland Indians 4-1 at Progressive Field on Friday night.

Bailey worked seven innings and allowed just the one run.

“I was in trouble all night as I definitely didn’t have my best stuff,” commented Bailey, who allowed six hits and three walks to go with three strikeouts. “I had to pitch and grind tonight to get the job done.”

Bailey pitched around two walks in the second and a one-out triple in the fourth. Trevor May pitched a perfect eighth and Taylor Rogers pitched a scoreless ninth for his sixth save of the season.

Minnesota scored two runs in the sixth off Mike Clevinger as Max Kepler led off the inning with a triple followed by an RBI single from Jorge Polanco. Later in the inning, Eddie Rosario tripled off the right-center wall and Mitch Garver delivered the go-ahead RBI single.

The game remained 2-1 until a Miguel Sano two-run homer broke it open.

Minnesota and Cleveland will return to the park tomorrow night for game two of the series. Michael Pineda (0-1, 31.50) will make his second start of the season for Minnesota. The Indians will counter with Carlos Carrasco (4-3, 2.89).

        2024 Cubs Season

April has not been a good month for the Cubs these last few seasons. They have struggled to get off to a good start. It looked like the tide had turned for the defending champs in 2024 with a 13-8 start.
Then things fell apart where the Cubs lost 5 in a row, and 7 of 9 to end the month, which left the Cubs at a 15-15 record overall.

Rookie SP Francis Easley has a 1-4, 7.00ERA in the month, while hitters Browning (.204) Rizzo (.253) and Quick (.179) have not been producing at the top of the lineup.

The Cubs are young, and knew losing 2/5 of the world series winning rotation would be tough, but they need to avoid another relapse after winning a world series.

Cubs are 15-15, 1.5GB of Division After April.

May was a better month for the Cubs as they went 16-12 overall. SP Jose Berrios continues to be amazing as he is 9-2, 2.18ERA and 95K’s in 91IP in 12 starts. Urias and Marquez both have ERA’s hovering 3.5ERA. Easley got pulled from the rotation in May, and was replaced by fellow youngster Bernard Nowak that through 61IP this year has a 5.40ERA. The Cubs Free agent pickup Lance Lynn has been atrocious thus far, having a 6.32ERA through 9 starts. Is top prospect Jose Serrano coming soon?

        Cubs are 31-27.

          Cardinals drop series to Phillies

The Cardinals dropped 2 of 3 to the Phillies over the weekend in St.Louis.

The offense was missing in this series as the Cardinals only managed 4 total runs on 11 total hits for the series. The won the 2nd game of the series 2-1 on 7 hits to give you an idea of the poor production the rest of the series. Pretty telling sign that this offense misses Juan Fabregas who is gone for the season.

The Cardinals will travel to Cincinnati for a 4 game series with the Reds to start the week. The Reds are in the midst of a wildcard battle with the Brewers and Padres.

Blue Jays and Giants clinch playoff berths

The Blue Jays and the Giants have both clinched playoff spots for the 2025 season. The Blue Jays lead the AL East by 8 games over the Red Sox and the Giants are leading the NL West by 6 games over the Padres.

            PITTSBURGH PIRATES FRANCHISE

            April 9, 2020

Pirates just wrapped up their first homestand of the season, going 2-5. First we were swept by the Reds then split a 4-game set with the Cubbies. 6-7 through 13 games is respectable at least. Next up is a 9-game road swing through Baltimore, Arizona, and LA.

Through 13 games, our starters are averaging about 4.5 innings per start. Obviously that’s not sustainable. The bullpen has been taxed heavily and as a result, hit pretty hard.

The offense has been competent. The team ranks 13th in the league in batting average and top-10 in OBP and SLG. Hopefully we can get the pitching and hitting going at the same time at some point.

Josh Bell is tied for the league lead with 6 homers and Kevin Newman is batting .348 through 46 at-bats.

              Colorado Rockies 2021 midseason
Changes in Denver. Colorado have fired both Bud Black the coach and the pitching coach. It is understood they see The Rockies as underachieving at 2 games under .500 after the All Star break. Hoping the hiring of manager Tommy Sbarbori and pitching coach Steve Foster will jump start the season. If not then maybe the trade for Taillon will.
The lowly Pirates moved soon to be FA Jameson Taillon with a 4.33 ERA to Colorado in return getting
23 yr old SP prospect Ryan Rolison (overall 67 A potential)
19 yr old CF prospect Ryan McAllister (overall 58, A prospect)
Colorado is desperate to find competent pitching to help the offense not waste it's hot start to the season.
Colorado is struggling to find pitching, meanwhile, Trevor Story is 2nd in the league in HR's with 30. Pete Alonso has 33. Addison Russell has been a breath of fresh air at 3rd as he's hitting .299 with 14 doubles. The team can score runs at home of course in the mile high city but even on the road they're hitting, the issue is everyone's hitting against them too. If not for German Márquez and his 2.14 ERA along with 118 K's after 20 games this pitching staff would probably be the worse in the league. Isotopes ace Ian Anderson (traded for from ATL in the Arenado trade) is knocking on the door to the majors and if Colorado can't turn around the pitching staff he might be moving up the rotation

Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the two way Thread but here it guys. Ohtani got his two way status in franchise on his own (I play with the Cubs) was wondering if anyone else has played around with it to see if other players could earn the status based on their hitting attributes. I was going to adjust some random drafted pitchers stats to see if when they get called up if the computer controlled teams will enter them into the line up; i doubt this will work and it was justed coded for ohtani but I was wondering if any one else has tried this.

Cardinals clinch postseason berth. Magic number 1 for NL Central

The Cardinals (90-63) took 3 out of 4 against the Reds in Cincinnati to secure a berth into the postseason, and moved their magic number to 1 to clinch National League Central Division.

After finishing 2024 with a record of 82-80, the Cardinals were focused on the goal of returning to October baseball and today they achieved that goal. And now they will shift their focus to achieving goal number 2 which was to win the National League Central Division for the 4th time in the last 6 years.

The Cardinals remaining schedule is their final road series of the season this weekend with 3 in Pittsburgh. They then play 2 vs Cincinnati mid-week and close out the season with a 4 game series with the Brewers.

It feels good to be playing October baseball after having missed last year and 2 of the last 3 years.

Carrasco, Lindor Help Indians Edge Twins
Carrasco seven strong innings in victory

                    May 15, 2020
Cleveland--- Carlos Carrasco went seven strong innings and shortstop Francisco Lindor went three-for-four with a homer and two doubles as the Cleveland Indians knocked down the Minnesota Twins 3-1 on Saturday evening at the Jake.

Carrasco (5-3) was spot on all night, allowing just four hits and two walks for the one run. The American League strikeout leader only managed four strikeouts on the night, but he located all of his pitches well and forced a lot of weak contact.

Lindor homered in the fourth and doubled in his next two at-bats as he led the offense to victory.

As for the Twins offense, Eddie Rosario hit his ninth homerun of the year in the fourth off Carrasco, but overall it was a sluggish night from a powerful force.

Michael Pineda (0-2) made his second start of the year, and while it was better than his first, it was still nothing to write home about. Pineda went just five innings, allowing all three runs on eight hits. He recorded four strikeouts.

Brad Hand closed out the ninth with two strikeouts for his fourteenth save of the year.

Minnesota and Cleveland will close out the three-game set tomorrow afternoon. The Twins will offer up right hander Jhoulys Chacin (4-2, 4.50) and the Indians will send out Zach Plesac (4-2, 2.97).

Twins Win, Take Series From Indians
Sano drive in two in win

                      May 16, 2020
Cleveland--- Miguel Sano homered and had an RBI double as the Minnesota Twins took the rubber match in Cleveland 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Sano hit a solo shot in the third to get the Twins on the board and then doubled in the ninth to open up a one-run game.

“I had a slow start to the season but I feel that my swing is coming along,” commented Sano, who now has nine homers on the year.

Twins starter Jhoulys Chacin (5-2) scattered nine hits over six and one-third innings got the victory. He allowed three runs and had three strikeouts.

Zach Plesac (4-3) went five innings for Cleveland but took the loss, allowing three homeruns. He limited the Twins to four hits but the homeruns accounted for four runs.

Josh Donaldson (20) and Mitch Garver (10) also homered for Minnesota.

Trevor May threw a dominant eighth for the hold, lowering his ERA to 0.47; and Taylor Rogers tossed a painless ninth for his seventh save of the season.

The Twins ended their six-game road trip at 3-3 and now head home to face the Baltimore Orioles. Jose Berrios (0-5, 3.74), still searching for his first win, will toe the rubber for Minnesota. The Orioles will counter with Hector Velazquez 93-2, 4.33), who has been up and down thus far this year. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM.

NL East is a huge surprise. Cards lost Molina and are struggling in the NL Central. Padres with the best record in baseball out in the NL West.

                          PITTSBURGH PIRATES FRANCHISE

                          April 20, 2020

Pirates wrap up a very solid 9-game road trip, going 6-3. The team is 10-5 on the road to start the season and 12-10 overall. Pretty good! I’m trying hard not to get my hopes up for 2020. The team has a negative run differential and an ERA of 5.10, both signs that this early success is not sustainable.

The starting staff continues to struggle, with everyone but Archer sporting an ERA north of 5. Archer won both of his starts on the road trip, allowing just 2 runs over 12 IP with 9 K’s.

Josh Bell and Colin Moran have been my best offensive performers. Moran is slashing .354/.380/.687 in 48 at-bats, mostly off the bench. Ke’Bryan Hayes has taken over at 3rd full-time so Moran is the primary pinch hitter and has gotten the occasional start at 1st, 3rd, or LF.

Next up is a short 6-game homestand against the Brewers and Dodgers.

                          OTHER NOTES
LHP Steven Brault is expected to resume throwing next week and is hopeful for a return in early May. He suffered a shoulder strain during Spring Training.

RHP Jameson Taillon is progressing well through his rehab program after undergoing his second TJ surgery in August 2019. There’s a chance he’s ready to go before the end of the season, but the team may elect to shut him down for the year as a precaution.

2017 2nd-Rounder RHP Steven Jennings pitched a 3-hit shutout in just his second AA start. The 21-year-old is responding well to an aggressive assignment to AA to begin the year.

Mariners prospect Evan White, who notably signed a 6-year MLB contract before the season, has suffered a dislocated ankle is will miss the remainder of 2020.

                            Colorado 2021/2022 offseason
We had a poor season finishing 71-91. Are bats went quiet the 2nd half of the season and pitching never found it's way all season. Trevor Story had a big season but also curtailed towards the end. He went into the All Star break with 30 HR's and fi ished with 46. and a .272 avg. Still won the Silver Slugger for SS and our pitcher German Márquez got an award too....but for hitting, the pitchers Silver Slugger.
We have to get it figured out this offseason. We need to be competing for the playoffs.
Playoffs: As for the playoffs, more heartbreak for LAD. They lost to the Braves again in the NLCS just like last year and Atlanta looked strong and likely to repeat, until they didn't. Cleveland had other plans. Going through the Yankees in the Wildcard then beating Minnesota in 4 games and Boston in 7 before beating the Braves in 6.
Getting Story resigned is Colorados priority number 1. Then its finding someone to help him drive in runs and finding pitchers to help Taillon and Márquez. Our relievers were decent and our closer Hansel Robles was an NL All Star but can't give those guys the ball when our starters keep blowing the game in the early innings. Ownership has rebranded the club with a new logo in purple and burnt orange. They have been reported saying it's time to make some changes. But the amount ownership was willing to spend this offseason was not to be guessed. Lots of big names added to the new look Rockies for this coming 2022 season.

Cardinals clinch National League Central Championship!

The Cardinals have clinched the 2025 National League Central Division Championship with a win over the Pirates and the Cubs defeating the Brewers.

The Cardinals (91-63) now trail the Giants by 3 games for the best overall record in the National League and are tied with the Marlins for the 2nd best record. The Cardinals are hoping at least to be the host in the NLDS.

But for now, they can celebrate winning the division and gear up for a big postseason run in October.

June was a .500 month for the Cubs. They could not get a groove going, and faltered in many ways. Overall, the Cubs went 13-13 and sit at 4GB of the division with the Brewers on top.

The Cubs pitching has performed better as of late, youngster Bernard Nowak has stringed together some impressive outings and has his ERA at 4.42 with 99K’s in 95IP/

Jose Berrios continues to dominate and looks primed to be an all-star selection with a 10-4, 2.58ERA through 17 starts.

The offense has been the downfall of the Cubs, they suffered many games where they were shutout or scoring 1-2 runs. They are 28th in the MLB in average, and 30th in OBP, dead last in MLB. The offense needs a spark and in a contract year the Cubs would really like to see 1B Anthony Rizzo step up who is only hitting .252/10HR/36RBI through 72 games.

The Cubs may look to make a move in July to improve the lineups performance.

Cubs sit at 44-40 just over the halfway mark of the season.

The first half of July was no other word then awful for the Cubs as they started the month going 0-7. They went 3-2 In the last 5 heading into the AS break to enter as a team at 48-49. The division is 8.5GB and the WC if 5.5GB. Not completely out of reach, but it compelled the Cubs to make some moves that will help the future.

The Cubs had 3 all stars at the deadline, Javier Baez, Aroldis Chapman, and Jose Berrios.

That was the only good news, as during that stretch a major bittersweet trade happened that sent two Cubs packing in 1B Anthony Rizzo and CP Aroldis Chapman both in contract years were sent to the 59-36 Diamondbacks.

The D-Backs are looking to go all in on a World Series and have the best record in the MLB and filled both holes on the team, the Cubs were able to nab top 10 Prospect CF Mario Dorta who has been blocked by Ketel Marte and another young CF Corbin Carroll.

The Cubs also shipped SP Lance Lynn to the Rockies for RP prospect Tommie
                                Kendrick.

The Cubs seem to officially be in sell mode at the AS break, and it will be interesting to see how the Cubs locker room will handle the moves. Rumors are the Cubs may not be done yet, but expect to see Mario Dorta and
possibly top prospect Jose Serrano at Wrigley soon.

Cubs are 48-49 at the break.
