    Mets Weekly Report

The Mets kicked iff their home opener against the Cincinnati Reds. Micheal Conforto had a great day in game one (2-5, 5 rbi, 2 HR) along with Marcus Stroman going 8 innings, he gave up 3 runs on 10 hits along the way to a 7-3 victory.

In the second game it was more of the same from the team. Jeff McNeil (2 for 5, HR 3 rbi) and Stephen Gonsalves went 6 innings giving up just 1 run while fanning 6 in the 8-3 win.

In game three the Metropolitans had trailed for the vast majority of the game. They had to rally in the 8th to tie it. Then up in the 10th, Brandon Nimmo hit a walk off home run to complete the sweep.

Up next were the Tampa Bay Rays. In the first game the Mets would need extra frames again. This time down 2-0 the got back to back homeruns from Dominic Smith, and Michael Conforto. And went in to win it in the 12. 8n game two Noah Syndergaard pitched marginally better as he went 5 innings but did give up 3 runs on 9 hits. He was bailed out by another good performance from the offense. With the help of J.D. Davis (2 for 2, HR, 3 rbi).

The mini two game sweep put the Mets record to 9-3, and they head out to Cubbie land next for a four game set, then Cincinnati for the same as well.

      The Amazins

Fernandez Dazzles in Debut, Mets Take Series
      July 25, 2024

Everyone in the organization but Dave Monahan is thrilled with Julio Fernandez's MLB debut in the 4th and final game of their series against the Giants. He went 6 scoreless innings, allowing 4 H and striking out 3. He worked efficiently, not needing more than 60 pitches to get through his day of work.

The Mets offense did their damage in the 3rd and 4th innings. CF Alex Jackson, who spelled Eloy Jimenez, had a 2 RBI single in the 3rd to break the ice, and 1B Steve Logan belted his 21st home run of the year an inning later. It was a 3-run shot, giving the Mets a 5 run lead en route to a 5-1 victory and a series win.

The Mets (68-39) now head to Baltimore (54-52) for a quick 2 game series before heading to Atlanta for 4 games to finish out the month of July.

Cardinals place Juan Fabregas on 10 Day IL

Juan Fabregas has once again been bitten by the injury bug, this time landing on the 10 Day IL due to a sprained knee ligament. Fabregas suffered the injury sliding into second base trying to break up a double play attempt last night against the Brewers. Fabregas is expected to miss 2 weeks, which means he'll likely not be back in the lineup until May.

Fabregas has missed a majority of the past two seasons due to knee injuries (torn ACL and UCL) and there at least was some consideration this past offseason to trade the slugger with Eddie Ortiz filling in admirably last season, but the Cardinals decided to hang on to Fabregas to balance out their lineup, which has proven the right move thru the first two weeks of the season. Fabregas is hitting over .400 with 3 homeruns and 10 RBI's thus far and has 3 stolen bases to go with his high batting average.

But being unable to avoid the injury bug is starting to become a growing concern for the Cards front office and will likely once again, lead to questions from outsiders about whether they should continue to invest in Fabregas or try to trade him away while he still maintains value, despite his injury concerns.

For now, Eddie Ortiz will take over the everyday left fielding job and Jhon Torres was recalled from Memphis to fulfill the vacant roster spot.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

          Milwaukee Brewers 9/27/2021

A wild end to the season as The Braves lost game 163 to The Chicago Cubs in a winner takes all date to the Wild Card against Milwaukee. Chicago won 10-5 and honestly it could have been a larger margin of victory.
Chicago (89-74) will catch the next flight to Wisconsin and look to conquer division foe, Milwaukee (91-71).

Chicago split a 4 game series with Milwaukee to even have a chance at a wildcard game as they were in a 3 way tie for the 2nd spot with San Diego and Atlanta going into the final week of the season. All 4 of those games were no more than a 2 run margin to the victor. Milwaukee will send ace Brandon Woodruff and his 3rd lowest ERA in baseball to the mound against Kyle Hendricks.
The Brewers will look to win with Woodruff pitching his usual excellent stuff to a lineup that has number 8 in total HR's Javier Baez at 38 and Kyle Schwarber in 7th with 39 this season.

Question for you all. Where do you rank in Team Strikeouts? I seem to have trouble striking guys out, granted Im playing on Legend. But still its a bit aggravating when I have like 3 a game. Unless its Jacob its groundouts or fly outs galore. Im not looking to strike out 15 a game every time, but once in a blue moon would be nice. I really dont wanna go back to HOF difficulty. I play with a slider set I'm comfortable with (always making minor tweaks) but feel like a adjustment is needed. Man I'm long winded..

              The Amazins

              Mets Lose Both In Baltimore
              July 27, 2024

The Mets had their two aces going in Baltimore this week, but neither of them could deliver a strong outing. Walker Buehler gave up 6 runs over 5.2 innings including a three run shot in the 6th to put the Orioles ahead for good en route to an 8-3 victory. In Game 2, Noah Syndergaard couldn't get to the 5th inning, giving up 5 runs on 8 H, and the Orioles would go on to win 8-3. A Michael Conforto RBI double and SS Richard Urena's 9th HR of the season accounted for the Mets' offense.

The Mets (68-41) now travel to Atlanta to take on the last place Braves (49-58).

All eyes in Metsland are going to be on the GM, however, and whether or not he decides to shake up the rotation heading into the home stretch of the season. A decision probably won't be made until Julio Fernandez makes another start, but rumor has it that the Mets and Royals are moving closer to an agreement that will send Dave Monahan to Kansas City.

It's kind of weird...I rank 28th in the league with my Mariners, but, if I were to guess, I'd say my relievers are likely top 6 or 7...HOF difficulty w/ Armor's sliders.

On the flip side, I've struck out the most in the majors, by a very, very wide margin. I'm somehow sitting 1st in the AL West, and it's 100% based on my pitching staff inducing weak contact. Dan Vogelbach is also an absolute monster for me-He's up to 42 HR's on the 1st of August, and somehow hitting .307 (My team batting average is .266).

Just two weeks into the season and I'm ranked 11th overall.

Last year I finished 17th I believe it was.

This is default Legend with meter pitching

I have my pitching on legend and I think i have a nice range. usually i am between 5-7 depending on the pitcher. I still have Hendricks so usually hes on the lower end due to inducing a lot of ground balls; if he is really in the zone i can get maybe 1 per inning with Hendricks and end up with 6-8 K's. I picked up Degrom in the 2024 season and he still has the juice - ive gotten as many as 13 K's with him in a complete game but his average is usually between 7-10 in a 6/7 inning start. I usually can tell in the first inning on how the start is going to be. I'm best with guys with a good slider or cutter if I'm dialed in. if i am not i have a lot of guys that throw upper 90's fast ball so if i can get the call for the high heat I can switch up and throw that but I tend to miss and get smashed.

                      Jay’s Cubs Wrap Up: 2024

The Cubs square off against the Giants and Phillies on the North Side.
The Cubs were back in action on Tuesday against the Giants and DeGrom was on the bump again. The Cubs were able to take the early lead in the 2nd but the game would get tied back up as DeGrom would again struggle with giving up the long ball. Degrom went 7 innings and struck out 8 but he has been bit several times with giving up the home run. He has averted danger at times as many have been solo shots but the Cubs faithful are worrisome that his ERA in the mid 3’s could be much higher with the way the ball has left the yard. The Cubs were able to break the 3-3 tie when Contreras drove in 2 with a home run to left field in the 8th. In the middle game Brailyn Marquez only made it through 3 innings when disaster struck. Losing 0-1 in the 4th Marquez was a part of a scary scene as a comebacker came back at over 100 mph and struck him in his arm. Marquez was lucky to have it hit his non throwing hand but still laid writhing in pain for some time as the medical staff would bring out a air cast. Marquez will be out until mid summer with a fracture in his forearm. Medina came in for relief but struggled as he allowed 3 more in 4 innings of work as the Cubs lost this one 1-4. The Cubs have been fortunate to not have many injuries in their current run of 3 championship but will be with their young lefty for at least a month. The Cubs are not without arms on the farm and JB Bukauska will be the first in line to fill in. Bukauska was a casualty of the wavier wire as was not able to crack the Diamondback rotation over the last several years. With the move, the Cubs will be in a tough spot once Marquez returns as Bukauska and Medina are out of options and likely to be picked up off waivers if sent down.

In the final game of the series the Cubs were able to get back on track as they hit early and often in the 8-3 win. AJ Puk was solid as he gave up 2 runs in 6 innings of work. Newly called up JB got his first action on the MLB level as he went the rest of the way putting in 3 innings and allowing the run. Danny Santana continues to thrive in right field as he hit 2 home runs. Santana has impressed the bleacher bums as he has hit over .300 on the young year and has been able to replace some of the production of Ian Happ who left in free agency.

The Cubs hosted the Phillies next, who sit at 4 games below .500 this year. The Phils have struggled with run production and only Bryce Harper has been able product so far into the year. Kyle Hendrick was able to continue their woes as he had another stellar start. Hendricks was able to get out of the first with no runs allowed but allowed 2 hits and had to throw 35 pitches to do so. Hendricks was able to keep up his dominance as he lasted 7 innings and was able to strike out 10 while lonely allowing one run. Brennan Davis was able to save another run as he gunned down a runner at home plate. The game would remain tied at 1-1 until the 8th inning when Danny Santana would come in to pinch hit and blasted a 3 run home run. Carl Edwards Jr Emmanuel Clase powered through the 8th and 9th inning as Clase made it 11 for 11 with his save opportunities this year.
In the second game, the Cubs got things going with back to back home runs by Brennan Davis and Willson Contreras. Davis typically has hit at the bottom of the order but was plugged into the 2nd hole as Rizzo was out of the line up. Contreras hit a home run No. 2 in the 6th in this wild one that ended up going in favor of the cubs 10-5. Degrom was able to earn his 5th win on the year but gave up 5 in 7.1 innings of work.
In the final game the Cubs would end up falling 2 to 1 as they could not keep the bats alive. The Cubs scored their lone run in the 4th but would lose the lead after a pair of hits plated 1 in the 7th and the Phillies took the lead in the 8th

                        Milwaukee Brewers 09/29/2021

                        NL WildCard Game
Woodruff started with back to back strikeouts
The hitters didnt fare much batter for Milwaukee though as it took just 7 pitches to end their first at bats.
Then the fireworks started in the top of the 2nd. Runners on the corners after back to back hits and a sac fly by Rizzo made it interesting. A hit to the pitcher by Jason Kipnis has Happ running hard for home but he's tagged out at the plate. Woodruff strikes out Kyle Hendricks and survives unscathed.
If we told you it was 9-7 in favor of Chicago after 5 innings you wouldn't be surprised given these two offenses, you would be surprised however if we said that was the strikeout totals. Chicago has 2 singles to their name and Milwaukee was being no hit through 5. Kyle Hendricks had the dropping out of the zone change up working and Milwaukee was biting.
Woodruff was just as impressive except on many more pitches. In fact after 5 innings Woodruff had thrown 69 pitches while Hendricks had only thrown 48. But apparently that was a few too many for Hendricks as after throwing a no hitter into the 6th he gave up back to back hits. The first to Avisail Garcia and then a single by Eric Sogard that got Garcia home for the 1-0 lead. With no outs and Sogard at first Khris Davis came in to pinch hit for Ben Woodruff ending his impressive 2 hit, 7 strikeout game. Davis got a single moving Sogard to 2nd bringing the top of the order up and Lorenzo Cain who hits into a double play. Semien added to the score with a base hit knocking in Sogard. Yelich got the 5th hit of the inning but Hiura ended the inning with a fly out to RF. With a 2 run lead Brent Suter was sent to keep things status quo. He kept the **** out in tact but it wasnt easy. Two base hits and two more that got rocked but directly at the fielder's lead to some nervous fans in the stands.
Andrew Chafin came in for the 7th for Chicago to face 5-6-7 and sent them down in 8 pitches.
Alex Claudio came in for the 8th and got 3 up 3 down. The Cubs brought in righty, Dan Winkler to keep things as is and he was unsuccessful as Mr. Reliable, Eric Sogard lead off the 8th with a double and scored on a pinch hit single by Daniel Vogelbach. The sidearm throwing Steve Cisheck came in to help close the inning for Chicago striking out the 3 batters he saw to keep the game 3-0. Unfortunately for Chicago 3 runs is a rarity to score against closer Josh Hader who came in and proved why he was worth the big money in the offseason, striking out Kris Bryant with a 99 mph heater an 83 mph slider for Wilson Contreras and a pop fly to centerfielder Lorenzo Cain ending the game 3-0 for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Milwaukee packs for the trip to Cincinnati to face division rivals and overall number 1 seed Cincinnati who look for their first playoff series win in 26 years. Last defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1995. Game 1 is Friday October 1st at 1:05PM.
Meanwhile The Yankees head to Cleveland after lambasting Minnesota 11-2 in the AL Wildcard game. Severino vs Plesac to open the series 7:05pm.
                        The other series will be
                        Phillies at Dodgers
                        Blue Jays at Astros

BREAKING: Yankees GM To Step Down, Effective Immediately

In an unprecedented move that will come as a shock to all just days off a title run, possibly the prime job in MLB today has been vacated. Some Yankees fans may question, ‘how could this happen?’, ‘this is allowed to happen?’. Apparently yes, it has and it is.

A statement has been released via the Yankees Organization on his behalf:
“As I officially depart I would like to thank our players and coaches for all their work and effort put in this past season, and the fans for their loyal support throughout. Everything we set out to do this season, we accomplished. However, I believe it’s time for me to seek a new opportunity, a new challenge”.

It didn’t take long for a new organization to make contact....

Jon Daniels And Co Ousted In Arlington, New Front Office Incoming
Daniels has been running the show in Texas for a while, but with another mediocre finish in 2020, 79-83, only 1 win better then 2019, and with the team seeing little to no success since 2016, ownership has decided to go in a new direction as the offseason begins.

This is a team still seeking its 1st WS championship. The strength of this team is its rotation, but it’s an old group. Kluber is 34, and Lynn, Minor, and Gibson, are all 33 years old. Other than Jose Leclerc, Gallo, and Calhoun theres not really any obvious building blocks in place on the MLB roster.

(This is an idea I’ve thought about a bit for a while, taking over a new team if I won it all year 1 with the Yankees. Played out a season with my Yankees and Cole, now I’m ready for a challenge. This will be much more fun and interesting to me then going back at it with the same stacked roster that was basically already built up for me.)

Was curious how this work? Contemplating doing the same after a few seasons. Can we change teams after a few seasons and keep everything else the same?

If you have multiple team control in your franchise then yes.

                                The Amazins

Mets and Royals Agree to Terms, Monahan Headed to Kansas City
                                July 30, 2024

After much discussion, the Mets and Royals have agreed to a deal that will send SP Dave Monahan to Kansas City, bolstering the Royals' chances for a postseason birth.

                                Royals Receive:
                                SP Dave Monahan
                                RP Alfonso Delgaudio

                                Mets Receive:
                                3B Oliver Paniagua
                                RHP Jermaine Butler
                                RHP Agustin Aponte

The Royals continue to go all in on the postseason this year. In a very weak AL Central, the Royals (55-56) currently sit in first with a 3.5 game lead over the Minnesota Twins. The Tigers and White Sox are also in the hunt. A week after trading C Chase Vallot to the Cardinals for SP Luke Weaver and RP Sam Tuivailala, they have made another move to bolster their rotation and bullpen.

The headline of the deal is Dave Monahan. A full time starter for the first time last year, Monahan has a 3.57 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 210 K and 61 BB through 308 IP with a 22-11 record over the last two years. The 28 year old has shown flashes of brilliance, including a complete game shut out a couple of weeks ago, and all the tools are there, but he has yet to have the consistence of a top of the line starter. Monahan will join Weaver and Aaron Nola at the top of the Royals rotation, and has 2 years of control remaining after this year.

Headlining the Mets acquisitions are 3B Oliver Paniagua and RP Jermaine Butler. Paniagua is a contact first, speed second corner infielder. He's got the athleticism to play third and the hands to play first, as well as a good eye to draw a lot of walks. He's 23 years old and with the Mets locked into Rafael Devers for the foreseeable future, look for him to compete for first base in the next couple of years as the Mets lack a lot of depth at that position.

RHP Jermaine Butler is an exciting, back of the bullpen arm. The 21 year old has 69 K in 57 IP so far this year in Double-A and could be knocking on the door in a year or two. With a number of Mets bullpen pieces becoming free agents after this season (Eovaldi, Herrera, Burdi), look for him to have a chance out of spring training next year. The Mets see him as having future closer potential.

Delgaudio and Aponte are a swap of AAAA bullpen arms. While Aponte has been a career minor leaguer, Delgaudio has 150 IP in the majors and could provide a late season boost to the Kansas City bullpen. Aponte is intriguing simply because he features 98+MPH. Look for both 27 year olds to get an opportunity to stick in the majors down the stretch of the season.

In the end, it was Sean Machado, not Julio Fernandez who made this decision for the Mets' front office. Fernandez was fine in his second start, 4 ER over 5 IP in a loss, but it was Machado who did the most with his opportunity. While Monahan continued to struggle over the last couple of weeks, Machado delivered a couple of quality starts and looks more than ready to take a spot in the rotation. Mets brass feels like this is an internal upgrade in the rotation while being able to strengthen the farm system, the 'perfect' move at the deadline for a contender... that is if it works out.

A shake up was also in order as the Mets are 3-10 over their last 13. They've lost 5 in a row and finish up their series with the Braves tomorrow.

Julio Fernandez will be sent to Triple-A Syracuse with RHP Barney Shipman replacing him in the bullpen while Sean Machado remains in the rotation. The Mets are opting for more reps for Fernandez rather than keep him in the bullpen. That could change as the Mets get closer to the playoffs and they opt for more talent.

Agustin Aponte will also stay with the big league club, at least for the next day until Amir Garrett returns from the IL. Look for Aponte to get at least an inning of work in the series finale tomorrow against the Braves.
